'CONSIDERING POSITION': Paolo Di Canio
PAOLO Di Canio has said he will “consider his position” as manager of Swindon Town if he is told the club’s board will not do anything to ensure the Robins’ transfer embargo currently is lifted.
Having exceeded the salary cap in League One, Town are not allowed to register new players until their expenditure falls within the 65 per cent- of-turnover limit.
Di Canio wants the board, which includes investors Andrew Black and Sir Martyn Arbib, to clarify their position on this issue as soon as possible.
The Italian has continued to state that he feels the powers-that-be would be backing away from the blueprint for success laid out to him when he joined the Robins last year if they do not do everything in their power to allow him to start dipping into the emergency loan market.
And he has revealed that he would think about his role within the club if he decided the Swindon board were not continuing down the same path they had pledged to stick to when they appointed the fiery former West Ham forward 16 months ago.
“They have to clarify now because it’s not fair, it’s not fair, it’s not fair. When Swindon approached me 16 months ago I came in here not for the employed but for the plan, which was to reach the Championship in three years,” he said.
“In the way we behaved in the last three weeks, there is not that intention. I don’t know what’s going on in the next few days but we have to be clear.
“Only in one way can they prove there is a desire they can maintain this level and hope, because there is no guarantee anyway that we can go up. Cancel the embargo otherwise it means that the plan has changed; this plan that was proposed to me that invited me and convinced me to come.
“If they think that what we spent in the summer is enough to win the league because they have knowledge in football and they don’t know and they don’t remember where we came from – League Two, zero value in this club, only three players we still have.
“I will see my position, I will consider my position. I said before the board have to clarify the situation. I’m working hard, I’m working 36 hours a day, not 24, it’s my job.
“It’s important to be clear. If we don’t want to cancel the embargo everybody considers his position. It’s not a problem but it’s important to be clear to the fans that the plan has changed. We want to cancel the embargo and see how they want to strengthen the squad.
“Otherwise everybody can stay in his position. The plan was three years but we are close there and it is a bit silly not to try.
“It’s easy for me because I don’t spend the money. If you are the one spending the money then you can think it is too much.”

The bigger loss could be Jeremy Wray as chairman, though we don't know the reasons this change is happening as a fan looking from the outside in he was brilliant. Gutted.
---.
Equally it could be a move to attract more investment into STFC through the business contacts of the new guy.
---.
It may be a bit of both or that Wray needs to take a break for health reasons - all in all we won't know for a while to come as yet and only board level politics will know the answer to this.
===.
Have to say that I'm a bit surprised by Paolo's comments as he must know that bringing the club out of Admin may be almost impossible if he expects it to be immediate as under the rules don't we have to wait another month before we re-submit any figures...which would require substantial proof of where the extra revenues are coming from.

The next question is where does paolo think he's going to find a natural born preditor to bring in. Anyone decent would not be released on loan by their clubs and as he has said many times he would not bring anyone in who is not better than what he's already got.
Can only see him getting someone from one of the big clubs who probably would only be at the level of jake jervis when he was here last year. Another alternative would be to take a chance with somone like Francis Jeffries who is without a club, I know he hasn't shown his early form, but good players don't go bad over night and he would be immediately available. He's training somewhere else but not under contract.

Maybe if we stopped losing good or promising players, such as Paul Caddis and Billy Bodin, every time Di Canio throws a wobbly, we could still be on our targets!

But PDC seemingly falling out with two year contracted players on a regular basis is surely not helping?
Benson is the latest one,i thought Benson played ok Saturday.

I see Di Canio is being linked to the managers job at southampton now ! Could this be why he has come out with this now ?

Grossly unfair Paulo!! The Board has supported you all the way, even when some of your acquisitions were proven to be of very poor quality. I didn't hear JW come out and berate you for that yet as soon as a small glitch appears, and that's exactly what this is, you can't wait to throw your toys out of the pram. This is your squad, one you asked for and were given by the Board, without any argument or complaint, now prove what a great manager you are by making it work. The embargo will be sorted, but you are disrupting and unsettling the balance of the club with these constant rants. No-one denies what you have done for this club, but please show some respect for your employers too.
He's moaning that we need another striker - he brought in Williams, Collins and Rooney in the summer. If they aren't good enough then there's only one person to blame.
