HOCKEY: Visitors beaten
2:21pm Thursday 11th October 2012 in Sport
MARLBOROUGH are still searching for their first Davis Wood League Championship victory of the season after slipping to a 4-2 defeat against Cardiff UWIC.
After an opening-day defeat to Robinson’s the previous week, the Wiltshire men quickly found themselves two goals down in Wales as the match started at breakneck pace.
Settling down, the visitors got themselves back into it just before half time when Will Seward scored a drag flick from his side’s only shot of the half.
Cardiff’s quick decisive play was rewarded in the second half with a third goal, but to Marlborough’s credit, they pulled another goal back against the run of play, with Seward again on target after a goalmouth melee. In a nervous final few minutes, Cardiff finally sealed their triumph with another drag-flick score.
Alex Milton was Marlborough’s man of the match.
Old Bristolians’ defence kept Wootton Bassett at bay at their end of the Central Two clash on Saturday.
Bassett took the lead with a goal on 20 minutes from Matt Daniell.
Eight minutes later, Old Bristolians levelled, although Bassett finished the firest half in the ascendancy.
In the 50th minute, the visitors struck again and despite more Bassett chances, they were unable to respond.
Chippenham Ladies maintained their winning start to the West Clubs League Premier Division 2A campaign with a 3-1 win at Cheltenham.
The visitors overcame a nervous start and Sian Perham and Sabina Falcone put them into a two-goal lead by half time.
Cheltenham responded, but Chippenham sealed victory as Non Roberts smashed home the third.
