SWINDON TOWN: Injured Coke returns to Owls
6:00am Friday 5th October 2012 in Sport By Sam Morshead
Swindon loanee Giles Coke
GILES Coke has returned to Sheffield Wednesday for treatment on a longstanding foot injury which had not been properly identified prior to his loan move to Swindon Town in August.
The midfielder has made five appearances for the Robins since joining until January but a recent scan on the sole of one of his feet has revealed inflammation which manager Paolo Di Canio said has been troubling the 26-year-old for several months.
Wednesday were not fully aware of the issue when they agreed to lend Coke to Town on transfer deadline day but Di Canio hopes the playmaker’s parent club will be able to tend properly for him as he bids to regain fitness.
“We discovered he had a problem since the Sheffield Wednesday pre-season, and even before,” said Di Canio.
“He told us all the real story. When we signed him it is normal to make all the medical tests, but when you have some information you can’t check. If you know the story then you test the joint, it is a medical test like the heart and the previous injuries.
“But we received the message that was ‘no, I’ve got a little problem but you can handle it easily’.
“He never had a scan before. We scanned him, even if he wasn’t our player, and we discovered that there is an inflammation. Now the story comes out that he had this problem since before pre-season with Sheffield Wednesday.
“This player is a Sheffield Wednesday player and I presume they would want to save us value and they should look after him in a proper way. We already did this, even if it wasn’t our value, but as a professional we work with him morning and afternoon to help him.
“It’s not an accusation of Sheffield Wednesday, because they thought it was a simple inflammation and now they can see the real picture thanks to us, what problem he’s got and how they can help him and let him come back as soon as he can - a few days, a few weeks, I don’t know.”

.
We have 4 there anyway in Ferry Miller Navarro and Bostock
.
Also Macca is a natural midfielder and with Ward Flint Troy and Devera natural CBs we would not be short there if he did move forward
.
Roberts is being rested to prevent long term absence - so a bit OTT to recall a player for one game when we have Raffa there plus Williams and Storey who can play out wide if required
.
As said yesterday if Williams moved back to where he has played most his career we would still have Benson Collins Rooney and Storey available up top
.
We have lots and lots of options not to panic
.
I have been calling for 4231 for a while
and with Roberts out it is a great chance to try it
.
Williams is a natural for the wide left slot - like Podoski for Arsenal and Germany
.
Rithie would be further forward and more central on the right to do eve more damage
.
Bostock could then play in the hole behind anyone of the big men - probably best Benson as they have played together before
.
Ferry then comes in as the playmaker - Pirlo or Xavi role
.
Then away probably have Navarro or Macca providing the shield - with Miller an option at home if we want more creativity and attack minded play

Why do we need to recall a winger to replace a centre midfielder?

Guess those who were there Tuesday have been thinking formations and tactics ever since. Or having counselling.
Barring injuries, Thompson definitely for Besonne, also can't see Troy keeping his place after the mare he had Tuesday, so expect Ward to return as his replacement. Personally would like to see Macca moved back into midfield and big Flinty brought back into add a bit more in height at the back. Macca has done good at the back, but think we need him in the midfield now to add a bit of steel because none of the present encumbrants are ball winners, Navarro will be lucky to keep his place, but think Miller will continue in a 4-4-1-1 line up. Ritchie, Miller or Ferry, Macca, De Vita and Bostock sitting in the hole just behind 1 from Williams, Collins or Benson.
Of course it won't be that line-up, time for a lie down and some of that councilling you mentioned.

Paolo has realised this and hence his conversion of Macca to centre half. He will not be returning to midfield and frankly the way we played Tuesday he'd be even less use there than at the back!
Despite Tuesday it's still Troy for me. But no matter whether he plays 11 youth players, who ever puts the shirt on needs to work hard to close down when the opposition have it, make themselves available when we have it and then pass to a red shirt.
Ps Dear Wes that includes you, you're allowed to pass to a defender!

Plus situation with Roberts injured again.Well Pdc know's whats best for his squad.
As for tomorrow another difficult game, yet in the light of the day I feel the Town have made a semi decent start to the season.Just might be us fickle fans were a tad ambitious
GOOD LUCK TOWN
