BURY v SWINDON TOWN: A potted history

THERE was a time only an optimistic Swindon Town fan would choose to make the trip to Gigg Lane expecting a flurry of Robins goals.

Of the 21 games between the two teams in Greater Manchester, following the initial meeting of the sides in November 1958, Town have failed to score on 12 occasions while five of the first 13 clashes in the north west ended goalless.

In that time, the Robins have been on the wrong end of a couple of hidings - 5-0 in October 1975 and 6-1 in August 1964.

But in recent times Swindon have enjoyed their visits to face the Shakers.

Jo Kuffour’s first goal for the club saw them on the way to all three points in August 2001, as Town won 3-0. Keith O’Halloran registered his third penalty in five matches that same day, the final time the Irishman would complete 90 minutes for Swindon away from home.

Just two weeks later O’Halloran was the victim of a horror tackle at Bournemouth, breaking his legs in two places. He never played in the Football League again.

Town’s most recent visit to Gigg Lane ended in a 1-0 win in April 2007.

Lukas Jutkiewicz came off the bench to score the only goal of the game, and his final strike for the Robins.

After making a huge impression having come through the youth ranks at the County Ground, Jutkiewicz left for Everton in a £1million deal in the summer of 2007.
