RACING: Hannon explains Maureen showing

MAUREEN was found to be under par following her disappointing run in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

Wiltshire trainer Richard Hannon has revealed the Princess Margaret Stakes winner scoped dirty after she was only ninth behind Rosdhu Queen, when sent off the 2-1 favourite for the Group One over six furlongs.

The filly will now be put away for the year before starting again early next season.

She had been an early fancy for the Qipco 1000 Guineas, but was pushed out to a general 25-1 from 14s for the fillies' Classic at Newmarket in May.

"She came back with a dirty scope, so at least we have a reason," the Wiltshire handler told richardhannonracing.co.uk.

"We know that she is better than that, but we will put her away now and bring her back in the spring."
