RUGBY: Royal Wootton Bassett 12 Sherborne 24

A STRONG finish to the first half gave Southern Counties South leaders Sherborne victory at Ballards Ash.

The home side made a good start and registered the first points as Dave Hogg booted a penalty.

Sherborne responded their their opening try of the contest, but Bassett went close when captain Nick Parker’s cross-kick wasn’t gathered in the corner.

The visitors added a penalty and two converted tries before the interval established their command.

A fourth bonus-point try all but wrapped up the win for Sherborne in the second period.

In a disjointed half – with five players being sin-binned – Bassett substitute Tim Gallimore was denied a home try when he was adjudged not to have grounded the ball.

Hogg kicked three further penalties for the home side.
