RUGBY: Walcot 14 Devizes 34
4:00pm Tuesday 2nd October 2012 in Sport
DEVIZES bounced back from their home defeat againstt Corsham by maintaining their 100 per cent Southern Counties South record away from home this season.
The Saddlebacks were beaten home and away by Walcot in the previous campaign, but ran in six tries against their Bath hosts.
Centre Bertie Wimble got the scoring under way with a fine individual effort, Andy Thompson adding the conversion.
But Walcot levelled when Wimble’s attempt at an interception left a gap for a them to score a converted try.
Craig Bryant and Julian Taylor were the creators of the Saddlebacks’ next couple of tries with excellent hands in the loose.
Bryant went over after puncturing the Walcot defence, then turned provider for Lewis Paget after the Saddlebacks dismantled the home scrum close to the try line.
Walcot got the first points of the second half, a converted score cutting the deficit to three points.
But Devizes upped their power game though with good ball carrying from forwards Chris Lewis, John Angell and Steve Rowbotham. Paget got his second after a 30-metre dash through the defence and captain Tom Collins added a close-range try, Thompson adding the extras.
Full-back Ryan Webb rounded it off, finishing a fine team move.
