SWINDON TOWN: Di Canio warns of banana skins ahead

Di Canio warns of banana skins ahead Di Canio warns of banana skins ahead

PAOLO Di Canio has warned his Swindon Town players of the potential dangers of playing against two struggling sides over the next five days, as the Robins look to continue their climb up the League One ladder.

Swindon’s 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury on Saturday was Town’s third consecutive win in the league, their fourth in a row in all competitions, and extended the club’s unbeaten run to five matches.

The Robins now sit fourth in the league table and, with games against rock-bottom Bury and 20th-placed Colchester to come before the week is up, many expect Di Canio’s side to be sitting in an automatic promotion berth in the not-so-distant future.

However, the Italian pointed out how defeat to teams towards the foot of the division can really dent a squad’s confidence, and he is desperate for his players to maintain the focus which has helped make them the in-form side in League One over the past fortnight.

“He have to work, work, work, hard, hard and hard,” he told the Advertiser. “We know that the problem is in the next two games that we against bottom of the table clubs. That can be a big trouble.

“If we win then that can maybe push us up closer and make us believe that we can stay there for the rest of the season.

“We have built the moment up now, if you fall down against Colchester in a bad way on a banana skin or at Bury if we don’t perform like we can – that can be a problem in the opposite way to the moment we are in now.

“We have more knowledge and more experience, we have proved that since two weeks ago, but why be silly and not build an extra good mentality?

“Have a good rest and focus on the next game which can give us an opportunity to let us stay very close up the top.”

Yes what with Colchester with new Boss out to impress and Bury struggling for points these 2 games are important.
Was pleased and surprised we got the win on Sat as that is a hard place to get anything from.
Can see no reason why they cannot get 4 points from the next 2 games or hopefully 6,however as GREAVSIE used to say it's a funny old game.
Good luck Town

Games with teams at the bottom end of the league are just as tough as against those at the top.

Yet PdC won't want a repeat of the L Orient game, and I don't think the team will give it.

The squad are becoming more settled with each match. Last season, it took about 12 matches to really start firing. I think the win against Shrews show that we are just about there now.

Not a trick 2 games but a tricky 4 games coming up followed by 2 more, then 2 more after that.

Paolo wont loose focus on the job in hand with each match, and I'm sure the squad will be reminded each time they step across the white line.

A good win at the CG on Tues and a hard faught result at Bury will do nicely.

All our games are going to be tough, teams want to beat us because Paolo attracts so much publicity. Not a bad thing for our players because it keeps them on their toes although I think Paolo does a pretty good job at fighting complacency. Of the next 2 games I think Bury might be the hardest. They got a good result at Stevenage on Saturday and that might be their springboard after a poor start to the season. With the squad we've got we should win almost every match in this league but we are bound to slip up a few more times this season by the law of averages. Hoping for a good win to boost our goal difference tomorrow. COYMR

Hopefully the CG will be a bit fuller tomorrow after our recent results. Last Tuesday was a bit poor IMO.

Would be nice to get a few goals to entertain some of the less regular fans and encourage them to come back more, but we should focus on winning first and foremost, however that may come,

PREDICTIONS LEAGUE!!
----
I can't get hold of Andy...I'm not sure he works full time as I've got the questions outstanding from today's email:
Please enter on this thread until it appears.
===.
"Dear all,
.
Keeping it short due to work commitments and feeling a bit tired after watching THE MOST sensational last day of the Ryder Cup I've ever seen in an Irish bar and celebrating Irish style until the early hours…...and with all this following the boys night out on Saturday I've realised I cat do back-to-back nights quite so well any more.
.
Anyway a great result on Saturday…hard working and 2nd half we simply outclassed them…..even Turner couldn't say anything but we deserved it….and a run of 3 league wins.
.
Colchester up next at home and as usual we meet these lower league teams just after they get a new lease of life with a new manager!…blooming typical!!…sadly I can't make it due to work, ALTHOUGH!!…I've missed 3 home games so far: Brighton (Won 3-0); Crawley (Won 3-0) and Bournemouth (Won 4-0)….maybe it's better I'm not there!?
.
Recent results against Colchester has been a real mixed bag with 6 wins 1 draw and 6 losses coming from the last 13 games and 3-2-2 from our last 7 home games…..I'm sure that if the new updated STFC turn up, that we will prove to be far too strong for them….even if they do have a new manager!!
---.
Results and league tables will go up tomorrow if I get finished at work early enough, otherwise I'll do a joint results thread for Saturday and Tuesday later this week.
