GOLF: Wiltshire face shootout for title
11:07pm Saturday 29th September 2012 in Sport
WILTSHIRE and Lancashire will go head to head for the English County Championship at Beau Desert GC in Staffordshire tomorrow after each completed their second successive victory of the week.
Lancashire, champions three times in the last four seasons, overwhelmed Worcestershire 6½ - 2½ while Wiltshire, who lifted the title for the first time in their history last year, beat Suffolk by the same score.
After the morning foursomes had been shared, Wiltshire took control in the singles.
Ali James (Cumberwell Park) won the top game 4&2 over Patrick Spraggs and Josh Loughrey (Wrag Barn) wrapped up a 4&3 win over Josh Cottrell.
Robbie Busher (Salisbury & South Wilts) saw off Suffolk’s Ben Wallis 3&2, while Bowood's Jordan Smith and Garry Slade defeated Chris Soanes and Chris Vince on the final hole respectively.
Ben Loughrey (Wrag Barn) lost 2&1 for against Jack Cardy.
Tomorrow's poor weather forecast means the singles matches will take place first, followed by foursomes in the afternoon.
