Di Canio is great for Town, says Kammy Di Canio is great for Town, says Kammy

FORMER Swindon favourite Chris Kamara has issued a robust defence of Robins boss Paolo Di Canio – insisting the Italian’s uncompromising approach stands him out as a top boss of the future.

Kamara is certainly familiar with Swindon having made over 200 appearances for the club in the 70s and 80s.

The 54-year-old TV pundit still keeps a firm eye out for his former employers and has watched Di Canio’s performances this year with a keen interest.

The controversial Italian often caused a stir during his playing days with high profile incidents such as when he pushed referee Paul Alcock after being sent off for Sheffield Wednesday against Arsenal, or when he argued with West Ham teammate Frank Lampard over who would take a penalty. To Kamara, however, the displays of Di Canio – both this season and last – illuminate a managerial star of the future rather than a reckless renegade.

“Paolo is always in the news and people are always talking about him,” said Kamara. “You can’t fail to keep an eye on what he is up to really but I think he is great for the club.

“You know that you are not getting a manager in Paolo who is going to go about things in the same way as most other managers because he is different to the rest.

“But if he keeps being successful in the league and getting promotions and also winning the big games then he is going to get noticed and is going to be moving up the leagues and be in contention for other jobs.”

Chris Kamara is certainly one of our most popular players from past times.
I wonder if he has been chosen to join the STFC Legends group ?

Kammy was a Town legend. One of my all time Swindon favourites. Read his autobiography las year, that was very entertaining. Well worth a read.
Another good read which features alot of Kammy is the Jeff Stelling book. Its typical Jeff & very funny.
Got admit though the best football book I have read was the Lou Macari autobography. Features alot of the Town & an eye opener. A must read for all Town fans.
