HOCKEY: Chippenham come back stronger

CHIPPENHAM captain Rebecca Roberts hopes her side have returned to the second tier of the West Clubs Women’s League as a stronger team.

Roberts’ side only lost one match as they topped the East Division last season, bouncing straight back up after the relegation a year earlier.

Roberts said: “Everyone was a bit down after being relegated and last year was great because everybody found the fun in hockey again.

“The leagues have been rejigged again and it means that we won’t be travelling to places like Falmouth this year, so I’m hoping that we’re going to be competitive.”

Dani Spencer, who featured for Firebrands last season, is the main recruit as they start against Salisbury on Saturday.

Devizes host Frome, while Wootton Bassett host Bretforton in the North Division and Marlborough Ladies are at home to Bassett’s second string in Wessex Division One.
