GOLF: Trophy joy for Marlborough

Marlborough's winning trophy team
MARLBOROUGH vice-captain Bryan Arthur led a strong team to victory in the annual Francis Holmes Trophy match between Marlborough, Andover, Alresford, and Romsey over 36 holes at Andover.
After taking a good lead in the morning round, Marlborough did enough in the afternoon to hold off Romsey.
Neil Prior and Malc Bevan shot nett 68 in the morning foursomes, Bryan Arthur and Terry Hale and Alan Turnell and Neil Patch with 69, giving them a nine-shot lead.
In the afternoon singles, Prior shot nett 67 and shared the individual prize, as Bevan (69), Graham Rissone (72), Turnell (75), Ali Baldwin (75) and Patch (76) helped clinch the trophy.
Marlborough also secured victory in the South West heat of the British and International Greenkeepers’ Association tournament.
Assistant head greenkeeper Mark Lewthwaite, partnered by David Capel, Trish King and Ali Baldwin, amassed a winning score of 78 points to earn a place at the national final at Frilford Heath.

Ladies September medal: Mrs Amanda Cooper 33 (23.7), Setsuko Morimoto 32 (30.3), Ms Amanda Conrad 31 (23.5).
Men’s Extra September Medal: Ross Campbell 75 - 4 = 71 (3.4, lowest gross), Michael Condon 89 - 15 = 74 (14.5), Richard Farmer 88 - 12 = 76 (12.4).
