That's just about it from all of us at Matchday Live.

We could get used to nights like this. Round four of the Capital One Cup awaits. Will it be Manchester United? Will it be Bradford? We'll find out tomorrow at around 10pm.

In the meantime let's relish another victory over higher league opposition - the EIGHTH under Paolo Di Canio.

It's goodnight from us, see you soon.

11:01pm

There can be no doubting who Town boss Paolo Di Canio wants in the next round.

Everybody will try to see the draw and hope for some names, but from my point of you I would tell you I sign to play Manchester United away or Chelsea away, because it is a big occasion

Paul Benson praised the Swindon Town team as a collective after he scored one of the Robins' three goals this evening.

"It was good to get another appearance and another goal against a team in a league above us," he said.

Paul Benson celebrates after scoring Town's second against Carlisle

TEAM EFFORT: PAUL BENSON

"We've done well, certainly since I've been here, against teams in leagues above, but I think nights like this are team efforts. You've got to be all on it, they're not a bad side Burnley - they've got some good players.

"We all had to be on our game and we were and that's why we won it."

Give Austin his due despite being booed most of the match. He did not celebrate his goal and after the match swapped his shirt with Flint and walked around the ground applauding the Swindon Supporters. Even the TE who had given him stick managed a CHARLIE CHARLIE austin chant.

10:49pm

Troy Archibald-Henville said he was unfussed by the fact that he was given the task of marking Charlie Austin on the striker's return to the County Ground this evening.

He said: "Obviously there's going to be a lot of build-up about him but to me he's just another player and you just have to go out there and do your job.

The Italian Job

CHARLIE WHO?: TROY ARCHIBALD-HENVILLE

"It doesn't mean much to me really.

"You've just got to do what you're told to do. I was given a job like I am before every game. I'm told to mark someone and I just go out and mark them."

10:48pm

Town boss Paolo Di Canio was pleased with the workrate of his strikers this evening, but doesn't want his players to get carried away.

Tough task master Paolo Di Canio

HARD AT WORK: PAOLO DI CANIO

“They did very well and the team went well, but up front when the forwards run like they did it is expensive, because my football is expensive in terms of energy.

“What it proved to me is that Paul Benson and Andy Williams, even Paul Benson who is a rusty man, if they run at the right times and keep the ball well that is only in the brain when they talk about tiredness.

“If you are not fully fit you can’t run, you can run for 50 or 60. Even Alan Navarro who was tired after 60 minutes on Saturday, he run for 75 minutes. It means it is only in the brain because we are for sure fit because we train so hard.

“I said to my players ‘well done and keep going’ and they have to believe in hard work, and with our desire and knowledge and the system we have got if we keep going and believe in hard work we will have lots of smiles this season. And maybe even at the end a laugh.

“It is now not an accident, and scoring three goals a round is not an accident and we can make this kind of performance."

10:42pm

10:41pm

Troy Archibald-Henville is also keen to make a name (a long one at that) as a free-scoring centre-back.

He said: "It means a lot to be honest because that is something that I want to add to my game.

"I've scored a few goals in the past but it is something I want to do a lot more to help the team."

10:40pm

Another happy Town player

10:39pm

Troy Archibald-Henville marked his return to the starting line-up with a goal this evening, and he was ecstatic to get off the mark in a Swindon shirt.

He said: "It was nice to get on the scoresheet. I was a bit disappointed we didn't get a clean sheet but it was nice to score and it's obviously nice to get the win as well.

Swindon's Troy Archibald-Henville

OFF THE MARK: TROY ARCHIBALD-HENVILLE

"The free-kick has come across, it's gone through quite a few people and you're always told to expect it to come to you. That time I did and it came to me and it went in.

"I got a good connection and then I remember kind of seeing the keeper fumble it and then I've turned around and started celebrating."

Andy Williams was also delighted to have been handed the man of the match award by the sponsors.

"It's my first (of the season) I think," he said. "I got one in the last game of pre-season but it's my first in the season so it's a nice round-off to the performance for me today.

"It's nice to get that off the supporters."

10:33pm

Andy Williams has been talking to the assembled media after scoring his third goal in as many games in the victory tonight.

He was asked whether Swindon will be able to produce a similar performance at Shrewsbury on Saturday when the nitty gritty of the league returns.

"We're starting to learn now what we need to do to get the results so hopefully we'll do the same come Saturday," he said.

Andy Williams at a press conference at the County Ground on Monday

IN THE GOALS: ANDY WILLIAMS

"We'll work in thenext few days like we have done since we've been back for pre-season. We'll continue to work hard and we'll hope that the hard work will pay off and we'll get something out of the game on Saturday."

10:23pm

Town boss Paolo Di Canio has just spoken to the media, and understandably is a very happy man after knocking his eighth higher-division club out of cup competitions in his short managererial career.

Town manager Paolo Di Canio celebrates beating Stoke

PAOLO DI CANIO

“We are happy because we got through to the next round because maybe there is a chance to play in a fantastic stadium.

“But from my point of view the most important thing is the performance, and once again we went through not for accident but because we fully deserved it.

“We scored three goals and probably should have scored another three or four, but in the end we made an outstanding performance.

“I do not want to sound arrogant but today we can smile, not laugh, smile.”

FULL-TIME: Swindon Town 3 Burnley 1

9:39pm

And that is it, all over here at the County Ground where Town have beaten Burnley 3-1 to progress to the next round Capital One Cup.

9:35pm

90 minutes: Trippier clears off the line after Roberts volleys Ferry's cross towards goal. Five minutes added time.

9:33pm

88 minutes: Collins sets Williams clear, and the striker forces Jensen into a superb one-handed save  to keep the score down.

9:30pm

84 minutes: GOAL 3-1 Town (Archibald-Henville) : The big defender arrives at the back post to meet McEveley’s cross, and his header eventually goes through Jensen. The goal-scorer is quickly replaced by Aden Flint.

9:25pm

Eight minutes to go at the County Ground.

9:25pm

Burnley are starting to get on top of Town a little here, as Ferry replaces Alan Navarro.

9:22pm

75 minutes GOAL 2-1 (Austin): The inevitable happens as Austin collects Vokes' cross to go round Foderingham and slot home. Game on

9:18pm

73 minutes: Foderingham does well to gather at the second attempt after Troy Archibald-Henville gets in the way of his first effort at catching a Trippier cross.

9:12pm

66 minutes: Wallace gives the ball away to Roberts who beats his man to cross, and Ritchie’s diving header is saved by Jensen.

9:07pm

62 minutes: Williams dribbles all the way into the area but his weak effort dribbles into the arms of Jensen.

9:06pm

60 minutes : Wes Foderingham makes his first real save of the night as he makes himself big to block Vokes' header.

9:03pm

58 minutes: Navarro forces Jensen to save with his legs after good work from Roberts.

9:02pm

56 minutes: McCann’s effort just flies wide.

8:58pm

52 minutes: Williams brings a bobbling ball under control, turns onto his left foot, but his effort just goes wide.

8:56pm

50 minutes: Charlie Austin goes into the referee’s book for a foul on Williams.

8:54pm

48 minutes: Town win a free-kick right on the edge of the box, and Ritchie’s drive is blocked behind for a corner. But it comes to nothing.

8:48pm

Second half underway

8:48pm

But Sam Vokes has replaced Joe Mills for the visitors

8:40pm

8:38pm

Town may not have dominated that half, but they did play some good football and scored two good goals. Burnley have enjoyed long spells of possession without making it count, and former Town striker Charlie Austin should have found the net at least once.

8:33pm

HALF-TIME: SWINDON TOWN 2 BURNLEY 0

8:33pm

45 minutes : Brian Stocks delivers a superb ball from wide on the right into the Town six-yard box, but Austin can’t make contact and the ball goes behind.

8:30pm

GOAL 2-0 TOWN (Williams 42): Miller robs David Edgar and the veteran midfielder feeds Williams  who slots under Jensen for his third goal in three games.

8:27pm

38 minutes: Miller and Ritchie both see shots blocked in a manic minute in the Burnley box, before Brian Jensen has to punch a Navarro corner clear.

8:23pm

The game has become a little scrappy with a series of free-kick's, not sure Town would be too bothered about that at the moment.

8:18pm

29 minutes: McEveley is booked after over-reacting to a clear foul on Ross Wallace.

8:14pm

Great finish from Benson for the Town goal, but the marking from Burnley was almost non-existant. Burnley have probably had more of the ball and certainly more of the chances, but Town are more than playing their part.

8:10pm

20 minutes: Austin chips a ball into the box, and McCann heads towards goal before Foderingham gathers at the second attempt.

8:08pm

GOAL 1-0 TOWN (Benson 19): Roberts takes a short corner to McEveley who waits before putting in a low cross which the unmarked Benson pounces on to finish well into the bottom corner.

8:02pm

Town are playing themselves into the game here with some neat passing, but they have yet to have an effort on goal.

7:57pm

Nine minutes: Marvin Bartley bursts into the box and tries to find Austin, the former Town striker helps it on before Chris McCann finds the net, but he is offside.

7:54pm

Six minutes: Austin heads a Ross Wallace corner towards goal, but Alan Navarro is there to clear off the line.

7:51pm

Two minutes: Trippier gets clear down the right after McEveley slips, and the full-back’s ball into the box looks dangerous but it dealt with well by Nathan Thompson. From the corner, Burnley play it short along the floor and the ball eventually arrives at the feet of Austin, but the former Town man fires wide.

7:50pm

One minute: Ritchie whips a ball into the box, but it is just too far for Benson.

7:46pm

We are underway here at the County Ground, Town kicking towards the Stratton Bank in the first half

7:24pm

Town chairman Jeremy Wray is looking forward to another special night under the County Ground lights.

JETTING OUT: Jeremy Wray

JEREMY WRAY

“There is always a buzz about these games because cup games are always special and there is always something special about the County Ground under lights.

“If you throw in the fact there is a Swindon old boy as one of the star names in their team, there is the recipe for something quite special.

“Any team that underestimates us does so at their own peril, and there is no way we would ever put out a weakened side and there is no way Paolo would ever not fully prepare his side for the game, and tonight is the same.”

7:17pm

In his captain's notes in today's matchday programme, Swindon Town skipper Alan McCormack has said he and the rest of his defensive teammates are under pressure to improve.

He wrote: "Defensively we kept a clean sheet against Bournemouth and we need more of those if we are to achieve success this season.

Alan McCormack

BACK TO BASICS: ALAN MCCORMACK

“We had a great record at the back last season and we have to keep trying to improve and build this season.

“On Saturday we pressed them high up the pitch and that played a big part in the victory and the shut-out.”

7:12pm

Swindon-born Joseph Mills , brother of Matt, starts for Burnley tonight.

He is on loan at Turf Moor from Reading, and is a neat and tidy left-sided player.

7:07pm

The two teams have emerged for their warm-ups ahead of tonight's match.

7:04pm

ADVER CHIEF SPORTS WRITER SAM MORSHEAD: "Charlie Austin starts tonight and that adds a little bit of spice to proceedings.

"Say what you want about the way in which he left the County Ground, during his time in Wiltshire Austin was about as dedicated as they come on the pitch.

THE SAM MORSHEAD COLUMN

SAM MORSHEAD

"His goal record speaks for itself and even in a team plunging towards League Two he managed to bag 16 goals before departing to Burnley.

"It will be interesting to see the way he is greeted by the Swindon fans this evening. I am expecting a bit of a mixed bag, simply going by the views of supporters on forums and over social media."

Simon Ferry will go up against former teammate Charlie Austin this evening, and the Scot is well aware of the talent the Burnley man possesses.

Town's current longest serving player Simon Ferry

SIMON FERRY

“Every level he has played at he has scored goals and that is what he is good at, and if you put the ball into the six yard box he will probably score whoever he is playing against,” he said.

“We need to keep our eyes open, and as soon as the ball gets put into the box we need to keep our eyes on him and you can’t let him get away from you because his movement is really good.

“He can get on the shoulder of defenders and he is good in the air, so you need to keep two eyes on him, especially in the box.

“Outside the box he is good, but it is all about when Charlie gets into the box and you need to mark him tight because if he gets one chance he will score.”

Paolo Di Canio is very pleased with the way Swindon's injury prevention tactics are working out on the training ground.

Paolo Di Canio

HAPPY MAN: PAOLO DI CANIO

Although he is missing three players today due to them being cup-tied, Di Canio told the press on Monday he otherwise has a fully-fit squad at his disposal.

He said: "After the first problem we had with Gary, that took him out for one month and with Troy, who was out for 20 days, now everything is okay and it shows that the prevention and work that we are doing is paying off.

Swindon Town's Gary Roberts  The Italian Job

FIT AGAIN: Gary Roberts and Troy Archibald-Henville

“The lads are very happy because they know they have people who look after them to keep them going and avoid muscle problems.

“We’ll keep fingers crossed that we can keep going."

6:38pm

DANGER MEN

While all the focus in the build-up to tonight’s game has been on former Town favourite Charlie Austin, Burnley bring with them a wealth of talent to the County Ground this evening.

The Clarets currently sit 16th in the Championship after an up-and-down start, and Town will have to be at their best once again as they bid to knock higher opposition out of a cup.

ROSS WALLACE

GREAT TALENT: Winger Ross Wallace.

The Scottish winger is capable of popping up on either flank, and possesses a rocket of a shot. He does not possess lightning pace but is capable of beating his man, meaning the Town full-backs will have to be on their toes. Wallace is also an expert free-kick taker, making him a threat all over the park.

DEAN MARNEY

TRIBUTE Dean Marney’s winning goal

The midfielder has a good record in the second tier, and is just as capable of popping up with a goal as he is to be putting in a goal-saving tackle in his own box. Town’s central midfield pairing will have to look after him, as will the defenders as he looks to occupy the space between the two banks of four.

SAM VOKES

Sam Vokes could make his debut this evening

While the Town defence will rightly have their focus fixed on former Town favourite Charlie Austin, they will also need to be wary of his target-man partner Vokes. The Welshman is capable of playing the ball both in the air and on the ground, and his physical presence should not be underestimated.

HISTORY BOOKS

It's been a while since Burnley visited the County Ground, more than 16 years in fact.

Back then, the two sides played out a goalless draw, but there have been two very memorable clashes in Wiltshire involving the Clarets down the years.

The first came in 1968 in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final.

Former Town boss Lou Macari, above with ex-skipper Colin Calderwood, believes there is too much money in the modern game.

BLAST FROM THE PAST: LOU MACARI

After leading 2-1 from the first meeting of the teams, Swindon faced an exit on home turf when they found themselves two goals down, only for John Smith to force a replay which Town won to book a visit to Wembley and a famous victory against Arsenal.

You can read legendary Adver report Clive King's account of the home leg here

The other followed 18 years later as, under Lou Macari , goals from Charlie Henry , Dave Bamber and Colin Gordon secured a 3-1 win - the Robins' 13th consecutive home success, a club record.

6:27pm

Aden Flint and Charlie Austin catching up on the County Ground pitch. Flint could well be involved in the matchday squad today.

6:24pm

The Burnley players are currently having a look around the pitch, amongst them Charlie Austin .

6:21pm

Manager Paolo Di Canio is not too worried about missing Darren Ward, Giles Coke and Adam Rooney tonight.

In fact, he is looking forward to the opportunity to give a few other fringe players a little game experience.

When asked if he would make changes, he told the press on Monday: “Maybe a few, we will see but I’m not worried because Rooney and Darren have done a good job, Giles too but he didn’t have many chances to show his quality.

Paolo Di Canio celebrating another Town win on Tuesday night

MAKING CHANGES?: PAOLO DI CANIO

“I’m even more happy because it is an opportunity for me to let them train very hard during the week because they still do not have the same fitness as my other players and also to see in action some other players who maybe haven’t been involved in the last few games."

6:18pm

TEAM NEWS

About 45 minutes until we hear anything official regarding tonight's line-ups, but what we do know is Swindon will be without three on-loan stars as they are cup-tied.

Giles Coke , Darren Ward and Adam Rooney will all sit this game out having played for Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall and Birmingham in the earlier rounds of the competition.

Good evening ladies and gents and welcome to Matchday Live as Burnley visit Swindon Town in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

Swindon have seen off opposition from a higher in league in each of their first two matches in this year's competition, and will be hoping for an impressive hat-trick of giant-killings tonight.

But standing in their way is a free-scoring Burnley side spearhead by an old County Ground favourite.

Charlie Austin made his name in professional football with the Robins, scoring 37 times in 65 appearances before his £1.2million switch to the Clarets in January 2011, and the 23-year-old will be out to haunt his former employers this evening.

So much for the unrest and fall outs with Flint RDV and Bostock all on the bench

Sounds like we may go a bit longer today then going by his Benson comments recently - obviously might need to just clear it and hold at some points

Get the impression PDC will give Bostock his chance, just waiting for the right opportunity. He could be a game changer but Paolo won't upset a winning side for the sake of it, cause bottom line, the team comes first. From Bostock's twitter feed he's a positive chap and hopefully will bide his time. Sure it'll come good for him.

London Red says...
7:57pm Tue 25 Sep 12

Think Bostock is similar to last year - PdC getting up to fitness and training him up in his "new role" - once he is happy he is there we will see a lot more than him

Benson is going to be 33 this year so doesn't have that long left - thus the arrival of Collins and Rooney as LONG term replacements

Keep it together now town, need to kill the game off - next goal will be crucial.

Let's enjoy the score line and cut the bickering as well - cheers. I do seem to remember LR saying Benson would be gradually phased out to be honest, gradually being the key word. Think Paolo knows Benson has a place, just not every game. Almost every player seems to be part of the plan, aside from one high profile signing from lat year who seems to have fallen from grace unfortunately.

A little bit harsh for the leagues top marksman, 10 goals i think. Did a great job for us and we got a good payday when he was sold. I dont have any ill feeling for a young man that wants to prove himself at a higher league. Yes Burnley were not great tonight. But thats because we played well.

Just in from the match. Great game, Thompson was my MoM tonight, solid performance, one stray pass, but all in all - brilliant.

Charlie got some stick throughout from the TE, but you knew he would score. We were immence tonight, better side by far.

Next round? - just want a winable home tie. Liverpool would be good at the moment. They can turn their season round after that game.

Wow, I didn't see that coming. After a slick opening 20 minutes from Burnley the guys worked their way into it, and kept their concentration right to the end. After you-know-who scored I expected a serious fight back, but the whole team held steady.

It really was that kind of game where nobody stood out, every player did his bit and a bit more. The tempo Swindon played at didn't allow them to settle.

Glad to see it was all love and kisses at the end when Charlie applauded the DR and Town End and they chanted his name.

Austin got stick all night, booed every time he touched the ball, cheered when he missed. Chants like "Charlie Charlie whats the score" and 1-0, 2-0 and 3-1
When he scored - utter silence.

After the match Charlie clapped the Swindon fans and was aplauded back - His name chanted from the fans in a more positive way at the end.

Cracking cup tie and we pressed Burnley very well all game and created scores of chances again what a performance. Williams looks like the signing of the season. Thompson was yet again magnificent what a talent, this kid really is special and can see him going all the way and hope its with the mighty STFC. Charlie was great at the end coming off with the Swindon players and applauding the fans. Town really do deserve a big one in the next round.

Rock -strangely enough it wasn't, at least not IMO if you compare it with Stoke. Was anybody that's posted so far actually there tonight?

Not a weak link in the team - Fods immense again when required JMcE & young Tommo composed and assured - though Jay did get done by Vokes for Charlie's goal. V sign from Charlie as a response to the stick he'd been given -understandable reaction

I've not been too sure of Navarro and Miller up till now but tonight both played well and gave their all. TAH does indeed look quality and can only get better and Williams simply gets better game by game.

My only teeny weeny gripe is why does Macca in stoppage time suddenly have a brainstorm and go on a mazy run thinking he's Ronaldo and loses possession because he ain't old winker. I think he's been guilty of this a few times before? please Macca row Z from now on at that stage on the game.

Everybody's put in a good shift and Paolo was a happy bunny afterwards. Well done lads another thoroughly deserved win - did you enjoy watching that Louis? You must be ecstatic surely like the rest of us.

Superb match, could have been 8-4, great entertainment.

Nathan you are a star in the making, just need to make the Caddis style breaks into the box and we can permanently exchange Rooney for Caddis at the end of the season.

Whoever posted that they had bet on Williams as top scorer has made a good investment IMO. The Burnley defence could not handle him, his ability to bring the ball down, turn and break is fantastic. We just need someone who can keep up with him now :-)

Tricky match on Saturday. Hopefully Paolo will bring the lads down to earth and we won't have the Preston type hang-over. Point would be a decent return.

Best home performance I've seen this season. We moved up a gear from Saturday. Young Thompson, so, so, so refreshing to watch, and I thought he got the third goal, but never mind.
First time I've seen TAH and he looked mean and lean tonight.
Jay had a good game and Ritchie of course was in there when ever possible.
All that said, for me, Roberts stepped up his act completely and a far, far better game from him, and for once the left flank looked as menacing as the right.
In all a superb all round performance and MotM very difficult to pick out, as so many had a very good game.
Macca very lucky not to get sent off in the last few minutes, and here is a ref who cannot stride out 10yards, not a difficult task, and then flashes yellow to those who object, sheer lunacy on his part and it showed a lack of professionalism.
Too many points to raise here, but for those who didn't go, sorry, you missed a blinder. very surprised at the gate considering it was only a tenner. Would love another home tie in the next round.

Good stuff again tonight. Couldn't see it coming in the first quarter of an hour, when we hardly got out of our own half. But what a performance from Williams! He's an absolute menace to defences with that powerful turn and surging run. Took his goal well too. Thoroughly deserved win and the margin could have been greater. Austin looked a real threat, tucked his goal away neatly and didn't do much wrong but he didn't see much of the ball.
.
My only complaint would be about the silly bookings picked up by McEveley and Miller. McEveley's was sheer petulance and Miller just seemed determined to talk himself into the yellow card. They're both old enough and experienced enough to know better.

Here's hoping for a home draw or a big one away. Arse away would do nicely as one of my sons lives in Drayton Park, right outside the ground.

Rebel,

I felt the Ferry sub could have been made 10 minutes earlier. Navarro was very good all night but did tire and this showed as Burnley had their best spell of the second half (and scored) prior to him coming off.

What impressed me tonight was that after losing the goal we didn't sit back and defend what we had we immediately searched for another killer goal. Lessons learnt from Atkins me thinks.

Cracking game tonight against decent opposition. Austin looked quality I thought and could have had a few on another day. But Town fully deserved the win and all 14 played their part with 8 or 9/10 performances.

A couple of special mentions though for Thompson, an excellent performance, and as for Williams, on paper he looked the striker to get based on last seasons L1 goals and on the field he looks even better. He could certainly play at a higher level and I can see some big teams coming calling in Jan if he keeps hitting the net.

Sad to hear Austin get the abuse but it was disappointingly predictable, but fair play to him applauding the fans at the end and he got a good reception for that.

Interesting listening to J Wray praising Paolo's meticulous attention to detail in his scouting of the opposition and getting his tactics spot on by narrowing the game when defending and stifling the service to Austin. Also he mentioned the great spirit in the dressing room, which was good to hear.

He obviously thought he'd made a fair shoulder charge. It looked to me like a blatant shove with no chance of winning the ball. He must have known there was a good chance the ref would see it as a foul, so slamming the ball into the ground wasn't a very clever thing to do. I'm all for passion but I think that was just silly. You wont let it go will you? For the third match in a row Miller and Navarro created the platform for the victory.

In case you werent watching, Miller broke up the play and threaded a superb through ball to Williams to score.

Troy looked OK, he was obviously short of match practice and was very close to giving away a penalty in the first half through his man handling of Charlie. He will improve.

Roberts continued to add a threat down the left as well as Ritchie does on the right, he just needs to learn how to shoot!
