ANGLING: Gerry earns Staverton win

THE Avon at Staverton was in prime form for the Trowbridge match last week as Beckington's Gerry Lugg carried off top prize with 16lb 10oz of chub.

Mark Lloyd, from Trowbridge, was runner up with 14lb 4oz of roach, followed by Trowbridge's Kevin Grant with 13lb 9oz of chub.

Other placings: 4 Vic Abbott, Bradford 12lb 1oz; 5 Bernie Blithe, Trowbridge 11lb 9oz; 6 Pete Zimiak, Trowbridge 9lb 4oz.

IVY House Fishery was in good form for the Tuesday Open match which was won by Elick Payne, from Calne, with 73lb 12oz of carp and silvers.

Val Murray, of Wootton Bassett AC, was runner up with 58lb 4oz of carp and silvers, followed by Dave Halliday, from Swindon, with a carp and silvers catch weighing 54lb 12oz. Terry Robinson, of Ivy House, was fourth with 47lb 10oz.

DEVIZES matchman Gary Etheridge won Ivy House's Saturday match with 61lb 8oz of carp and silvers, with Geoff Fox, of Ivy House second with 52lb 2oz of carp and silvers. Matt Sylvester of New Century took third with 51lb 4oz, followed by Simon Stacey, of Chippenham, with 38lb 4oz. The silvers prize went to Bob Davis, of Isis, with a weight of 28lb.

TROWBRIDGE’S Mark Poppleton, with 82lb 12oz of carp, was second behind Roland Lucas, of Wilts Angling, 142lb 1oz, in the West Tackle Open match at Viaduct Fishery.

Alan Aslett, of West Tackle, was third with 81lb 6oz of carp, with Nick Merry, of West Tackle, fourth with 75lb 2oz of carp.

SUNDAY'S Wilts Angling match on the Avon at Conigre was won by Nathaniel Johnson, of Melksham, with 12lb 11oz of roach.

Dean Adams, from Bradford, was a close runner up with a 12lb 3oz 8dm catch of chub, roach and skimmer.

Nick Johns, from Trowbridge, and Andy Pratten, from Melksham, tied for third with 10lb 3oz 8dm.

Other placings: 5 Bob Ryan, Melksham 9lb 6oz; 6 Alan Hillier, Westbury 7lb 8oz 8dm.
