SWINDON TOWN: Tranmere match rescheduled

SWINDON Town’s League One clash with Tranmere in the build-up to Christmas has been rescheduled.

The match was originally due to take place on Saturday, December 22 but has now been moved forward to Friday, December 21 with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Chief executive Nick Watkins told the club's official website: “The final Saturday before Christmas is traditionally a poorly attended fixture so we have moved the game with the aim of encouraging a bumper festive attendance under lights at The County Ground .

“The night will be Christmas themed with a number of initiatives and packages to be announced in the build-up over the coming months.”

Why has it been moved?

If anything its better for me, plus I do like the games under the lights at the CG.

Much prefer Saturday games. However, I see this as revenge for the umpteen times I've been to Tranmere on a Friday night for no good reason!

An unfair advantage to the home side by any chance?

Obviously Tranmere have agreed to the switch so they dont think so.

As per Lionel's last comment...thought exactly the same :-)

Trouble is they'll find it easier to travel during the day on a Friday won't they!?

Lionel, I reckon you're being a bit mischievous here. If you've been to Tranmere for several Friday games you probably know that there IS a good reason: they have always had to compete with Liverpool or Everton on Saturday afternoons. Admittedly, the problem is probably not so frequent these days, ever since the Premier League exchanged its soul for Sky's ghastly "Super Sunday".

good move this one by the club.

anyone know much about this tranmere lot this season? does anyone think they will maintain promotion form or will eventually fall away?

theyve scored a lot of goals and a great defensive record so far but were completely unfancied by the bookies.

Have to say I'm in agreement on this reschedule. Unfortunately for us for the last season or two we have had a home fixture on the Satuday befor Xmas and the attendance has been awful. Friday most people will be breaking up for the holidays and if we get 7k to 8k attending it's a fully justified decision. In fact I can remember a while back the board were looking at a few Friday fixtures so this should test the water.

Seem to remember Crawley were flying at the top of L2 last season only to fall away in the last Quarter, jusyt managing to get their act together for auto promo.

Charlton, on the other hand, dominated L1 all season. Don't think Tranmere are a Charlton, but I do expect them to be there or there abouts most of the season.

Excellent news night games can be much more exciting under the lights and would also impact the Tranmere turnout so give us a support advantage. Love to have more Friday night games to be honest. Tribunal fees look pretty decent two quality players for reasonable money to be fair. I would like to see Troy pair up with Flint at the back Saturday as I feel they would make an awesome pairing and it would leave Macca as back up in a number of positions.

Town say they've rescheduled this one so as to maximise the gate. They realise that half of the Town end will be dragged off Christmas shopping :-)

Quite clear too that the football tribunal value Collins and Archie -H a lot more than some fans.
They are gonna cost a lot of money with 20% sell on's as well.

I dont think that £140k for Collins and £200 k for Archie is too bad but the add ons are rediculous.
I suppose we must expect it if people think we have money :-(

If the pair help us to promotion to Championship, consolidation or further promotion, then money well spent.

If we sell them and make a profit on the pair, even with shelling out 20%, profit is profit.

Means I have to miss my Friday 5-a-side game, so not great for me, but probably a good decision. Feel a bit sorry for the Tranmere fans though.

The Tanmere game has been moved to an evening kick off beause traditionally if we are losing the game we can have a floodlight failure and get it re-scheduled. :D

Oh what satisfaction after years of Tranmere messing other clubs about, the shoe is on the other foot now!
