- REPORTING BY SAM MORSHEAD & ANDY WARREN
- FULL TIME: Portsmouth 1 (Michalik 90) Swindon 2 (Ritchie 45, Williams 55)
- Williams scores his first goal for Town
- Ritchie gave Town the lead against the side he supported as a boy
11:50pm
Well, that just about does it for the Pompey away version of Matchday Live.
It's been an eventful evening down on the south coast, where Swindon Town ended their four-game winless run with a 2-1 victory over a spirited Portsmouth side.
Town were utterly dominant for much of the match, with Matt Ritchie scoring against his boyhood club and Andy Williams scoring his first goal for the Robins.
And all in all it tees Swindon up nicely for the home clash with draw specialists Bournemouth on Saturday.
From all of us at Matchday Live, goodbye and see you next time!
11:47pm
Nathan Thompson was given his first start of the season this evening on the right side of the Town defence, and Paolo Di Canio was pleased with his performance.
NATHAN THOMPSON
“He was not secure, he was more than secure and he played very well," he said.
“He did exactly what I want from my right back, and he run at the right time forward and the combination with Ritchie was good.
“Nathan deserves this chance, and he took it in a fantastic way.
“I am very happy for him and we will see for the future.”
11:42pm
Town manager Paolo Di Canio was delighted to see Andy Williams score his first goal for the club this evening, and applauded the striker’s finish from the edge of his technical area.
“I am happy for him,” he said.
“He scored one goal, had one disallowed and moved in a fantastic way to beat his opponent, so I was happy for him.
PAOLO DI CANIO WAS PLEASED TO SEE ANDY WILLIAMS GET OFF THE MARK
“I gave him the chance to play, and in the last two days were the only two days were I left him and said a bad word, and said it was on him.
“I said ‘I love you, your teammates love you’, and he did job properly and was working hard, and in the end it was a fantastic goal.
“He will now feel free in the brain, and I hope it can be the first of many for us now.”
11:37pm
Gutted! Conceding too many soft goals. The positivity from the fans was what pushed us for a late rally.

Swindon got close to their best at times during the 2-1 win at Portsmouth, according to goalscorer Andy Williams .
Williams netted for the first time in a Swindon shirt, and he told the local media his thoughts on 90 minutes on the south coast.
He said: "It was a bit of a relief when Matty (Ritchie) scored to be honest because we'd dominated the game and we needed to be 1-0 up.
ANDY WILLIAMS
"For prolonged periods of the game we were on top and, barring the last 10 minutes of the game I think we showed what we are capable of.
"It was similar to the weekend where we dominated the game but unfortunately, due to little slip-ups and not taking our chances, we only came away with a point. Thankfully tonight we came away with three."
11:21pm
Pompey boss Michael Appleton was pleased with the way his side performed this evening despite suffering a defeat.
MICHAEL APPLETON
"I was pleased with the lads responded after going behind, and we started the second half well but then got sloppy from a throw-in, and we lost possession and it was a stupid decision and they got the second goal," he said.
"Then you think it might be a long night for us, but to be fair we responded pretty well and we came back into the game, and in the last 15 minutes we were the only team which was going to score a goal.
"The Fratton End can suck the ball into the goal a little bit for us, and they tried their best, but ultimately we fell a little bit short tonight and that was the difference.
"Williams took his goal well and it was a great strike, and maybe that was the difference."
11:18pm
Former Swindon Town captain Paul Caddis is reported to have dislocated his shoulder playing for Birmingham in their Championship clash with Bolton tonight.

11:14pm
Andy Williams spoke to the local press after scoring his first goal for Swindon Town in the 2-1 win at Portsmouth this evening.
This is what he had to say...
"It's been a long time coming for me personally but importantly today it helped the boys onto three points today which we needed.
"It's a great feeling to be honest.
GOAL HERO: ANDY WILLIAMS
"I had a few chances in the first half, one disallowed for offside and another one that clipped the bottom of the keeper's boot and somehow managed to go over the bar and I thought it was going to be one of those days again.
"Thankfully there was a little defensive slip and I managed to beat my man and put it in the corner.
11:14pm
While Di Canio declared he was not happy with the way his side played in the last 10 minutes, he is convinced his concerns will help Town in the long run.
“I didn’t change and I don’t want people to think I am always unhappy, but I was not happy," he said.
“It is not possible to score all the chances we create but we should have scored five goals, and they didn’t deserve to draw.
“The player must not celebrate like we won the Champions League even though it is difficult to win at this ground, because in the last 10 minutes we were very bad.”
PAOLO DI CANIO
“I have learned that we are not ready yet for the top of the league, because this is a different level and if you switch off for eight minutes you can lose five goals.
“We played 80 minutes where we should have been 10 or 12 goals above, but for six or seven minutes we switched off and let them create four or five chances.
“We need to grow up like we did last year, and we need to look at the last 10 minutes to become a nasty and malicious team for 97 minutes.”
11:09pm
Good win tonight well done boys !

Matt Ritchie was delighted to see Andy Williams score for the first time in a Swindon Town shirt this evening.
Williams fired home a brilliant solo goal in the second half to break his duck of more than nine-and-a-half matches without finding the net this season.
Ritchie said: "It's brilliant for Willo. As everyone knows he's come in and he's worked his nuts off and he's done brilliantly for the team.
OFF THE MARK: Andy Williams
"He's a great team player and he's been desperate for a goal and luckily it's come tonight and it's a great finish in the end.
"Everyone was pleased for him to get off the mark and I'm sure that will set him off now and he'll be scoring every week hopefully."

Matt Ritchie admitted he had to force himself not to celebrate after notching the opener in the victory at Fratton Park.
The winger has supported Portsmouth since he was a child.
He said: “I’m like a big kid still and it’s the best feeling in the world when you score and I couldn’t hold my emotions.
“I had a second to think about it and stop myself but you know I support the club.
CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES (OR NOT): MATT RITCHIE
“I think to be fair to Portsmouth we were on top of them but they stuck in there and they dug in and made it tough for us.
“Luckily we broke them down and at a good time for us as well, and it was 1-0 at half-time. They came out bright again but we managed to get the second goal and I should have maybe scored a third as well.
“It was a hard game but it’s a good three points."

10:50pm
Boss Paolo Di Canio was not happy with the way his players allowed Pompey back into the contest, in doing so putting the vital three points at risk.
“They remain Portsmouth and they didn’t become Barcelona in the last 10 minutes, and we put under risk our result," he said.
“I am the manager of this team, and the reason I was not worried about the three defeats in a row it is because we played this football.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“It is not normal to see my team suffer in the last 10 minutes, but I was not surprised to see us 2-0 up.”
“If we play like this it is easy to stay 2-0 up, but 2-0 up should be enough for us not to play tippy-tappy tippy-tappy and switch off for six or seven crazy minutes.
“The opponents created four good chances after we dominated the game for 80 minutes, and we have to work on it.”

Great to hear Ritchie speaking with real emotion about his home town club.
Lots of positive vibes flying around in cyberspace this evening.
10:46pm
Matt Ritchie spoke to the media this evening after scoring in Swindon's 2-1 win at Portsmouth.
The 23-year-old, who supports the club, said: “It was end to end stuff towards the end and we were lucky to hold on but we’re very pleased with the three points after not winning for a couple of games.
“It’s a good three points on the board.
MIXED EMOTIONS: MATT RITCHIE
“It was mixed emotions at first, obviously I wanted to celebrate and then I didn’t want to celebrate. I support the club but it’s nice to score and more importantly get the three points. We can build on that.
“In the last 10 minutes we were under the cosh a little bit but hopefully we can take the positives and move on to Bournemouth next week.
10:30pm
Paolo Di Canio was not happy with his side's performance in the final 10 minutes tonight.
The Town boss highlighted two players - unnamed but not entirely un-guessable - for particular criticism.
“We switched off, especially one up front that started not dropping in the hole and keeping the ball for us, and the two times he got the ball he gave it away," he said.
“Another player I sent in is a player that probably at this minute doesn’t understand my football, in 20 minutes he should give everything and challenge for nearly every ball.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“He watched the game and let them deliver the ball into the box, but I sent him in and thought he should have given me straightaway what I wanted.
“Now I have to think it is difficult he plays again under me, because by putting him in I put under risk the result.
“In this moment six or seven of my players were a little blurry, but we have to be cool and analyse the last ten minutes because it put the result in trouble after 10 crazy minutes."
9:40pm
And that's it, full time here at Fratton Park and Town have got back to winning ways. Great game, and a great win for Paolo Di Canio and his side.
9:38pm
90+1 minutes GOAL 2-1 (Michalik): The big defender rises to head home. Three minutes of stoppage time left.
9:37pm
85 minutes: Foderingham comes to the rescue again as he makes a good save as a Harris threatens to loop over him, and after McLeod puts the ball back in, the Town keeper makes the save of the night to tip a Williamson effort onto the post.
9:32pm
84 minutes: Coke and McEveley play the ball around in the box instead of clearing, and force Foderingham into a hurried clearance which is blocked, but when the ball falls to Rodgers, the Town keeper makes a great save to preserve the lead.
9:31pm
83 minutes: Foderingham gets out wellto superbly save from Howard who is free in the Town box, and from the corner which follows Darel Russell thumps a header against the bar.
9:25pm
76 minutes: Rooney flicks on well from a McCormack ball forward, but Michalik gets there just before Williams.
9:20pm
Luke Rodgers about to come on for Pompey
9:19pm
71 minutes: A great touch from Williams sees the striker free down the right, and he fires a cross into the box which Roberts lays back to Ritchie, but the former Pompey man fires over.
9:18pm
69 minutes: Coke fizzes into the area after good work on the edge of the box, but he finds himself on his wrong foot and his cross is weak.
9:14pm
@SamMorshead_SA I guess PDC's substitution must have worked! Even if only as motivation for the others. #stfcadver

9:14pm
66 minutes: Jordan Obita replaced by Ashley Harris for the home side.
9:11pm
12,121 here at Fratton Park tonight
9:10pm
63 minutes: Ritchie, Nathan Thompson and Giles Coke combine to work the ball into the Pompey area, and Dumbuya has to acrobatically clear.
9:08pm
Town's second goal seems to have knocked Pompey for six here, the game has slowed down considerably
9:07pm
It is Navarro who is replaced, Football League rules meant we had to wait three minutes to confirm it to you
9:07pm

— @49plusone 18 September 2012
9:05pm
Giles Coke about to come on for Town, with Navarro likely to come off having been treated a few minutes earlier
9:03pm
55 minutes GOAL 2-0 TOWN (Williams 55): Williams grabs his first goal for Swindon as he cuts in from the left flank, beats two men in the box and fires a shot into the opposite corner of the Pompey goal. Great finish, and no more than he deserves after a great start to his Swindon career.
8:59pm
52 minutes: Roberts fires high and wide.
8:57pm
50 minutes: Williams goes down under pressure from two Pompey defenders, but referee Rushton says no penalty.
8:53pm
46 minutes: Matt Ritchie is given a yellow card for pulling back Jack Compton.
8:49pm
Both sides back out on the pitch here, and we are ready to go again. Another half as entertaining as the last will be very welcome!

8:36pm
And that's half time here, and what a half of football it has been. Town have created some great chances and deserve their lead, but have passed the ball well too and seem well and truly back in their stride.
8:35pm
45 minutes GOAL 1-0 TOWN (Ritchie): Ritchie drives in a low shot which beats Andersen and gives his side the lead against the club he supported as a boy. Great goal, but the winger must be bubbling over inside, but he doesn’t celebrate.
8:33pm
44 minutes: Rooney has his first sight of goal but fires wide.
8:32pm
43 minutes: Great work from Mustapha Dumbuya who tricks his way out of trouble and finds Howard, but the former Swindon man’s through-ball is just too heavy for McLeod.
8:28pm
Collins wasn't happy as he came off and didn't shake Paolo Di Canio's hand, but there was no outburst, no water battles, and I have to say Collins took the decision very well.
8:26pm
37 minutes: James Collins is taken off early and is replaced by Adam Rooney.
8:25pm
35 minutes: Foderingham is called into action as he saves well from Jordan Obita.
8:21pm
31 minutes: Ritchie sends a cross-cum-shot across the area which Gyepes turns behind for a corner, and the Hungarian is at it again as he clears Roberts’ header off the line.
8:17pm
27 minutes: Andersen has kept his side in the game so far, and just produced one of the saves of the season to deny Collins from point blank range, before blocking the follow up.
8:16pm
26 minutes: Ritchie cuts inside and fires in a shot from a tight angle, which Andersen deflects into the ground and over the bar.
8:13pm
Great atmosphere inside Fratton Park this evening, and the game is living up to expectations too. Town have created the majority of the early chances, but the home side are now coming back into things.
8:10pm
20 minutes: Pompey turn the screw a little and have two good chances in quick succession. First McLeod’s shot is saved by Wes Foderingham, and then McEveley puts in an outstanding block to stop a vicious drive from Lee Williamson.
8:09pm
18 minutes: Izale McLeod has the home side’s first chance but his effort goes over the bar.
8:06pm
The early high tempo has dimmed a little here as both sides settle, and Portsmouth are beginning to see a little more of the ball.
8:02pm
12 minutes: Navarro shoots but his shot is blocked, and Tommy Miller’s header back into the danger zone falls well for Collins, but the striker can only shoot at Andersen.
7:57pm
Great start here from Town, who are sending forward wave after wave of attack
7:57pm
Six minutes DISALLOWED GOAL: Roberts sends in another good ball, which Williams anticipates to head in ahead of keeper Andersen, but the assistant referee’s flag is up.
7:55pm
Five minutes: Williams almost is presented with a chance to tap in from the back post but it is cleared, and McEveley forces a good save from Andersen as he fires in a shot after the ball is not cleared far.
7:54pm
Four minutes: Matt Ritchie takes aim from distance and his shot is parried by home keeper Andersen, and Williams gets in the former Pompey man’s way as the ball is bundled behind for a corner.
7:54pm
Three minutes: Town have the game’s first chance as Gary Roberts wriggles free down the left, and his accurate cross finds Andy Williams who heads over.
7:52pm
One minute: Alan McCormack brings down Brian Howard and Portsmouth have a free kick 35 yards out, but Howard fires it into the wall.
7:47pm
The players are out on the pitch and Town are wearing their old black away socks this evening, because Pompey are wearing red socks.

Town boss Paolo Di Canio wants his side to treat tonight like a Premier League game.
FRATTON PARK
“I am happy to go there with my team because it is good to play in this kind of stadium with a big reputation, and a few years ago they played at the top level and won the FA Cup.
“Just last year they were Championship, but financial problems can cause big problems for any club, and unfortunately it happened to Portsmouth.
“I have sympathy for this club because the fans were amazing, and one of the most loyal fans like Newcastle and Swindon.
“For me it is important as a manager to smell the atmosphere like we play a Premier League club, and my players have to feel the same like when we went to the Britannia Stadium to played Stoke.
“The feeling and the atmosphere is like we play in a cup against a club still at the top level, because Portsmouth are a top club and the fans are amazing.”
7:41pm
Like all Portsmouth fans, Matt Ritchie has been hurt by the financial problems which have gripped the club over the last few years, but is hoping things can be sorted out as soon as possible.
MATT RITCHIE
“The problems they have had down there have been well documented, and it is a tough situation for everyone,” he said.
“I am sure they have good people and the right people in there now, and they have good fans and good people behind the scenes and I am sure it will be sorted for the better.
“It is sad to see people lose their jobs and players having to leave, but football is a hard business and if it isn’t going right on the pitch or things are not run properly in the background it catches up on you.
“But the manager seems very good down there and he has got a very good set of players, and I am sure the people at the club will sort it.”

Portsmouth captain and former Swindon favourite Brian Howard has had his say on tonight's game in his programme notes.
He wrote: "I watched Swindon on television when they played Brighton in the Capital One Cup at the start of the season and they looked very good.
BRIAN HOWARD - EX-TOWN FAVOURITE, NOW POMPEY SKIPPER
"They come here tonight after getting a 2-2 draw at Carlisle on Saturday - we know first-hand how difficult it is making the long trip up there and trying to get a positive result.
"But, just like us, Swindon have lacked a little consistency so far this season and had a run of defeats earlier in the month, so we'll go into the game confident of collecting all three points."

Town boss Paolo Di Canio has sympathy with Michael Appleton and everyone at Portsmouth, but has insisted that sympathy will not find its way onto the pitch tonight.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“He (Appleton) did a really good job because it was difficult for him, but he has good players.
“One or two have good pedigree like last Saturday and Cadamarteri (Carlisle), and there are players there that played Championship and League One for many years.
“McLeod was top scorer last year in League Two, so they are very good players, but it was difficult for them.
“But anyway, he did a good job and they play positive football on the ground.
“They do not abuse the long ball and you can see their system is to play football on the ground, nice football, keeping the ball and starting from the back.”

Matt Ritchie still remembers his Pompey debut in a goalless draw at Wigan well, and credits his early years at Fratton Park as playing a major part in where he finds himself today.
MATT RITCHIE
“My debut will always be special even if I didn’t expect it, but Portsmouth were in a little bit of trouble at the time,” he said.
“Avram Grant gave a couple of us young lads a chance at Wigan, and it was probably due to the fact the club was in a little bit of trouble at the time.
“I will always thank the club and everyone at the club at the time for what happened in my early days at Portsmouth, and those times have played a massive part in the player I am now.
“So for that reason I am looking forward to going back there now although I want to come away with the three points.”

As for the Adver reporters at the ground, chief sports writer Sam Morshead has gone for a 2-1 away win and sports writer Andy Warren a 2-2 draw.
7:16pm
ADVERTISER CHIEF SPORTS WRITER SAM MORSHEAD: "The absence of Simon Ferry from Swindon's matchday squad is a hot topic on the forums and over social media this evening.
"All I can say on the topic is this... with so many quality players in the Town squad at present there are going to be at least three significant omissions every time Swindon play.
"Ferry has indeed been an integral member of several Town teams during his time in Wiltshire, but under Di Canio there are very few safe seats on the top table.
SIMON FERRY MISSES OUT THIS EVENING
"The Italian will chop and change to suit occasion and circumstance.
"Today Ferry is the unlucky one to miss out, but on another day it could be Giles Coke, Alan Navarro, Jay McEveley, Paul Benson - any number of individuals.
"Let's hope come full-time we weren't wishing he had been included, however."

Portsmouth v Swindon Town: Mikkel Andersen; Mustapha Dumbaya, Lubomir Michalik, Gabor Gyepes, Jon Harley; Lee Williamson, Brian Howard, Darel Russell, Jack Compton; Jordan Obita, Izale McLeod.
Substitutes: Simon Eastwood, Josh Thompson, Liam Walker, Luke Rodgers, Johnny Ertl, Ashley Harris, Adam Webster
A nice chance for Town fans to see Brian Howard in action again tonight.
BRIAN HOWARD
Howard scored 10 goals in 83 appearances for the Robins between 2003 and 2005, and was part of Andy King's squad that reached the 2003/04 League One play-off semi-finals.
7:04pm
Gary Roberts comes in for his full debut tonight after making a cameo off the bench at Carlisle.
Paolo Di Canio was pleased to see the winger back in action following his injury lay-off but he wants the former Huddersfield man to cut out what he called the “tippy tappy” part of his game.
He said: “It’s obvious when he goes one versus one and delivers the ball he is a very dangerous guy. He attacks the back post in a fantastic way, he was unlucky not to score and the goalkeeper made a fantastic save.
GARY ROBERTS
“I didn’t enjoy two or three situations in the final third when he started playing with Tommy Miller, probably because they know exactly each other.
“Tippy tappy, tippy tappy is not my football. If you are going to play tippy tappy and then go play the ball through like he did with James Collins or switch then okay.
“But if we keep the ball with Giles, Tommy Miller, Roberts – tippy tappy, tippy tappy, tippy tappy – and then we lose the ball, counter-attack and we lose 3-2 what do we have to show?
PAOLO DI CANIO
“We did something that wasn’t constructive, just keeping the ball and allowing the opponents to organise in a defensive moment.
“I am happy when they have a combination because I want to play football but my football is not one, two, three, four, five – moving the ball in a 10-yard space. My football is one, two, three and then boom – change and go through.
“I can accept and I can understand because first game he felt in the game, felt good straight away but from now we have to take away selfish in some way or maybe negative in my opinion in the way I want to play my football. Then we will be okay.”

"It is going to be a big night for Nathan Thompson this evening, who makes his first start of the season at right back in place of Joe Devera.
"In truth I am a little surprised he has not been given his chance already following a hugely impressive substitute appearance in the win at Stoke in the Capital One Cup.
"Thompson offer more of a threat going forward than Devera and is more confident on the ball, and his extra yard of pace could prove important for Town tonight.
"Di Canio's decision to leave Simon Ferry out of the squad altogether is a big call, as the Scot has been one of his most consistent players since he took over last summer."
6:54pm
Gary Roberts will make his first start for Swindon this evening after recovering from injury, and the winger is keen to make his mark after a tough start to his career in Wiltshire.
“The worst part about it all was that I got through the hardest pre-season I have ever done pretty well, and I was fully fit and scored a few goals,” he said.
“I went into the last game wanting to just get through it and do well, and then go into the season full of confidence.
GARY ROBERTS
“But I got a knock and pulled out before the first game of the season, and I felt really down about it and it didn’t hit me for a while.
“After a few weeks I just started looking forward to coming back, but it was a real blow to have to go through that so early. We took our time a bit after a bit of a setback, and the fitness coach made it clear we were going to leave it a week longer than expected to make sure it didn’t happen again.
“It was good to finally get out there and put the jersey on and play for the club, so now I need to concentrate on getting a start, playing well and getting a few goals.”

ADVERTISER CHIEF SPORTS WRITER SAM MORSHEAD: “It’s a glorious night on the south coast for a clash I for one have been eagerly awaiting since the fixtures were released in June.
“Portsmouth may still be searching for their saviour off the pitch, where no new owner has yet been found, but on it they have a manager who is working a little bit of magic at Fratton Park.
SAM MORSHEAD
“Michael Appleton may only have limited tools to work with but he has assembled a squad which on paper looks likely to give Town a stiff test this evening.
“And there is a little bit of nostalgia thrown into the mix as well with Brian Howard facing his former club and Matt Ritchie returning to his boyhood team.
“It has all the hallmarks of an action-packed evening. Let battle commence.”
6:45pm
Simon Ferry is stood alone in the middle of the Fratton Park pitch, where hopefully he will be running the show in about an hour's time.
6:42pm
TEAM NEWS
It’s a full bill of health for Swindon Town at Fratton Park tonight and that means a selection migraine for manager Paolo Di Canio .
Will Troy Archibald-Henville return to the middle of defence? Will Gary Roberts return on the left wing?
TROY ARCHIBALD-HENVILLE AND GARY ROBERTS COULD START THIS EVENING
John Bostock arrived with the Swindon squad a few moments ago, but there was no sign of Raffa De Vita , Aden Flint or Luke Rooney .
JOHN BOSTOCK
A lot of questions remain to be answered, and hopefully we’ll have a firm idea of how Town will line up at around 7pm.
6:42pm
Tonight is a big night for Town winger Matt Ritchie , who is returning to his boyhood club for the first time since his move to Wiltshire.
The winger has a large number of friends and family in the crowd tonight, but has been trying to concentrate on football.
MATT RITCHIE
“I’m excited about it even though it will probably be a little bit strange for me,” he said.
“I signed my scholarship and I was around the club since I was six or seven years old, but time moves on and other players have moved on too.
“It is a bit different now because I have been away from the club for a while and it is not like I have only moved in the summer, and I was out on loan a lot of the time I was there.
“But I do have a lot of friends and family that support Portsmouth and they will be at the game.
“I have tried to cut out all the banter to concentrate on the game, but I have got a few texts from people saying good luck and things like that.
“I have been a bit rude so that I can concentrate on the football, and I need to do the simple things well and come away with the points.”
6:38pm
More now from Town boss Paolo Di Canio , who is desperate for his strikers to start scoring more.
The Italian has been hugely supportive of Andy Williams , who tonight will make his 10th Swindon appearance and has yet to score in red.
PAOLO DI CANIO IS AFTER GOALS FROM HIS FORWARDS
However, while he is happy to offer a cajoling arm to the former Yeovil man, Di Canio is keen to see his players add a ruthless edge to their game in the final third.
He said: “I prefer my players arrive in the box and send the ball in the stand with desire and determination than arrive there and don’t do nothing.
ANDY WILLIAMS, LEFT, HAS YET TO SCORE FOR TOWN
“Then had two shots on target, two goals, from two bad defensive mistakes from us and we were 32 or 34 times in their box two versus two or three versus three. The ball remained there, nobody was angry enough to score a goal.
“We have to improve from now the individual determination and feel the responsibility.”
6:36pm
The Town squad have arrived at Fratton Park, and there is no sign of Aden Flint, Luke Rooney and Raffa De Vita. Matt Ritchie is having a good look around his old stomping ground.

I am trying to do the team a favour by not going. I went with my lad to 8 away games last season. We lost them all and only scored 2 goals in all 8 defeats. Given that we got promoted as champions it was a little odd.
Kojak is trying to help the Robins out tonight, and should probably never attend another away game again! Is anyone bringing any luck tonight?
6:29pm
Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton has revealed that he was interested in bringing Swindon's Darren Ward to Fratton Park only to be tripped up by a financial stumbling block.
PORTSMOUTH MANAGER MICHAEL APPLETON
Ward joined Town on loan from Millwall just before the summer transfer deadline, but Appleton told The News that he had previously made an attempt to steal the centre-back's signature.
He said: "Darren was someone we were looking at for a long while.
"I spoke to (Millwall boss) Kenny Jackett numerous times about him. I know for a fact Kenny didn’t want him to go because he rates the kid so highly himself and he’s been great for him, but he was in a good place for us.
DARREN WARD
"So I had numerous conversations with him over it and if we were ever in a place to do something as a football club – that one would have been done a long time ago.
"But good luck to Darren. He’s a great kid and I’m sure he’ll do fantastically well at Swindon."
6:24pm
Paolo Di Canio was hardly a happy man despite his side ending their three—game losing streak with a 2-2 draw at Carlisle on Saturday.
Speaking to the local media after the game, he said there is still plenty he wants his players to improve upon before he can begin to feel satisfied.
He said: “I’m not the typical manager that after three defeats is worried and then away from home accepts the result and thinks ‘one point, we stop the negative moment’.
“It is a shame not to go away from this ground not only with a win but a win with four or five goals.
PAOLO DI CANIO WAS UNHAPPY WITH A POINT AT CARLISLE
“For this I’m not happy and I want to send this mentality to my players because if we think ‘okay, one point, we played better than last week’ that proves that we cleaned the situation but now we have to clean some individuals’ playing mentality.
“I saw many selfish attitudes that can come maybe from new players, someone maybe coming back from injury, and I don’t like some situations I saw at the end of the game – ineffective football, kicking the ball like Barcelona but we are not like Barcelona and then losing the ball and counter-attack.
“I told my players that we improved a lot since last week but this aspect doesn’t make me enjoy because it is a shame today that we leave with this result.
“Today we played much better than last week but it wasn’t enough to win and I told some of my players ‘please, I don’t like worried people. I defend you for all my life but I want you to be brave.
"I don’t want worries people because worried people can’t stay in a team that wins league or stays in the top six, top eight because it’s not possible.”

Portsmouth away tonight.... Can't wait #STFC
— @JohnJBostock 18 September 2012
6:20pm
After the chaos of the weekend, when many Town supporters missed half the action at Brunton Park due to major traffic delays on the M6 in Lancashire, it’s been a lot easier to get to the ground this evening.
Swindon sold out of their initial allocation of 700 tickets before the weekend, with plenty of fans expected to turn up on the evening to make tonight’s away following amongst the biggest of the season.
Every single one of them will be hoping for a first win in five games.

Good evening ladies and gents and welcome to sunny Fratton Park for Swindon Town’s trip to Portsmouth, live on the Advertiser website.
Town have yet to win this month after a furious start to the campaign, but ended a three-match losing streak at Carlisle on Saturday.
The Robins will be hoping for their first victory since the Capital One Cup drama at Stoke on August 28 – and the scene is set for a fascinating encounter on the south coast.
Not that long ago, Portsmouth were a club going places. An FA Cup triumph, a brief flirtation with European football, a star-studded line-up featuring the likes of Jermain Defoe, Kanu, Yakubu, Peter Crouch, Glen Johnson and David James – everything looked rosy at Fratton Park.
Fast forward three short years and Pompey is a very different entity. Manager Michael Appleton now has to build a team on one-month contracts and the threat of extinction still looms large on the horizon.
However, Appleton has assembled a talented and competitive squad capable of holding their own in League One.
It’s role reversal time tonight as Swindon, one of the financial heavyweights in the division, take on cash-strapped, frugal Portsmouth.
Here we go…

Shame about us losing concentration in the last ten, no doubt Canioman will be working on that over the next few games. Bournemouth will be a tester and Burnley ? well I'm glad I've got my ticket.

We should have been out of sight 4 or 5 nil after 45mins and our two strikers!! were the main culprits somehow managing to miss when it was clearly easier to score. Williams at least redeemed himself with a finely taken 1st goal in the 2nd half.
But what happened after that? we imploded giving away possession and McEveley playing russian roulette in his own box - no wonder he was hauled off a few minutes later.
So its quiz question time folks:- We know why Fodders is in goal - we know why PdC was so keen to get Roberts -we know why(certainly on tonights perdormance- one sloppy pass all night) why young Thompson is highly rated. To a lesser extent we understand why Paolo is persevering with Collins & Williams. BUT!!!!! can anyone tell me why Rooney, "hoofball"Ward (certainly no better than Flint and nowhere near TAH if we are to believe all the hype on here as to how good he is) Navarro & Miller (how the hell can they start in front of Ferry is beyond me).
And so to Paolo the "master tactician" why did he pull off Collins 5 mins before half time -yeah why not wait till then!- we played with ten men for the rest of the game-well might as well have done with Rooney up front...and then why when Pompey came back at us did we stop playing desperate defending and the mighty Wes and the woodwork twice to our rescue -where was the pack the midfield stop them getting through tactics...err not there is the answer.
Ironic that the Pompey fans were chanting in time to the tune of the Great Escape because that's what Town got away with tonight.
Any 3 points are welcome however - just not sure if they won't be chalked off if Pompey go under -signs aren't good -lets hope not we need tradtiional old clubs like them to survive - MK Dons and Fleetwood Town etc don't quite have the same ring do they?

If I was Paolo I'd shut the door on it tonight -have a look at the video and see where to go from there.
Don't know if you were there but Ritchie's goal was probably a more difficult shot to execute than the numerous chances Collins & Williams let go begging beforehand.

Sorry, I don't like the "chief reporter" or his accounts, in my opinion Amos (sam) and Andy are lazy journalist and I'm getting tired of them taking articles from other newspapers to fill their columns. And for those who don't know who Amos & Andy were check it out on the internet, one of the funniest comedian duo's in their time, (1950's), bring back Gary Rose for decent report writing of the action and latest news.
As far as the away coverage is concerned it is to say the least shocking, no follow up for 48 hours of a match report is a disgrace! To provide the same at home is a waste of time as most home fans will be at the CG, it doesn't add too much added value for people abroad or living outside Wilts as they probably get updates quicker from the BBC or SKY. To be honest their reporting is so poor I'd sack both of them, but that ain't going to happen, all I can hope for is that sam comes down off his high horse that he thinks he is the chief sports reporter and actually start doing investigating news instead of using stories from other sites, after all that's what he is paid to do.

Young Thompson was very steady at right back, a good 90 minutes for him.
Thought our attacking play was fantastic at times, down both wings and some of WIlliams turns were quality.
Macca and Ward both had good games, although I would have liked to have seen Troy or Flint brought on at the end for Macca when under the cosh aerially.
On a side note I hope Portsmouth come through their financial troubles, it's a more than decent club and it was a bit sad to see how they have fallen with some 2010 Cup Final shirts and flags being worn, and the graffiti all around the ground.

I'm investing in new radio equipment, since getting this other house we can get naff all on our older radio stuff that I want to listen too, lol.
Like you I am bemused at some of the "faces" we have got in, and why Ferry doesn't get chosen automatically is also beyond me, but then again, I'm not the manager.
You are right about the Cherries, but how do you feel about Bostock in with Ferry ? even just to try it out, surely we have nothing to lose. I'm glad Williams has scored now, but with no disrespect to Pompey they are hardly a club that would test us to the nth degree. Still very pleased for Thompson, and I hope he has earned enough to get a start on Saturday in front of the home crowd, something I think he has been working towards. I for one plan on giving him 100% support. Caddis incidently has a dis located shoulder which is why he was brought off, so I guess we are paying his wages again. Dunno how that works.

We deserved the points and most pompey fans i know said we hammered them but we do have to be more clinical in front of goal.
I thought Ward had a good game tonight and pleased for Thompson who have a good game.
Brian Howard and a few pompey players experts in diving and were laughable at times and the ref fell for it every time.
Great three points but Bournemouth will be a tougher game.

Last season our back four were very good, but against , let us say, lesser teams. many of our players came from leagues above and that showed in our quality.
This season we are more evenly matched, we no longer have so much of the quality advantage.
From my own perspective neither Miller or Navarro have shown anything yet for me that sets them apart from any others, and against Orient and Preston they were very much second best at times. When Ferry came on against Orient the middle was settled to a point. I think Bostock puts fear into defenders in the way he runs through defences with pace and control, well that was last season, I haven't seen him play yet this season, but I still think if he is here we should at least try him with Ferry.
Up front, well, tbh so far I have been impressed with Williams work rate and overall participation, maybe now he is off the mark things will start to happen, they need to and his accuracy needs to improve, which I'm sure it will with the more goals he scores his composure will increase.
When I saw the number of new signings I knew it would be rough to start, and credit to Canioman for the challenge he has set himself with all these new faces, most other managers would have kept it much lower.
Right now I'll settle for a point and another improved overall performance on Saturday, being prepared to build slowly but surely towards the end of October.
Very pleased for Thompson, but I notice there has been no reference to Bodin Snr of late. Bodin Jnr got subbed second half last night btw.

Disappointed Bostock didn't come on I want to see him in action after his Oxford cameo.
Thompson did well, although they did get past him a few times, but I think he has to grasp this opportunity or that could be it for him at Swindon.
If I was an opposing manager I would be targetting Macca in the air and working on the second balls. I see that as a bit of a weakness now. When Pompey got more direct in last 10 minutes it caused us big problems.
But saying that Pompey had 2 massive centre halves, and Williams troubled them all game with his movement and pace, so its horses for courses I guess.

Fair to say Paolo is still in "tinker-man" mode at the moment. Confident like most he'll sort it and agree that Macca is becoming exposed to high balls regularly pumped in at him - a tactic other teams might latch on to especially if they play hoofball footie as the norm.
Be interesting to see how Bournemouth will approach the game on Saturday because doubtless they would have been on a spying mission last night looking for any perceived weaknesses.

Didn't question his support of STFC as I know he is but wondering why he has a go at PDC before a ball is kicked? (you may need to re-read that bit).
--
None of us are privvy to what the manager knows or is thinking and just found the comment a bit of a 'cover my arse while I shoot' hence why attack something before it's happened.
--
I don't know why he chooses some in front of others as 3 or 4 of the starting eleven wouldn't be in my choice pick but then I don't know if they have a knock or if there is a specific reason.
--
I'll back our manager, whoever that may be, through and through on team selection as it is his job so of course I'm going to question why people get so uptight about it....just don't understand the nature of it as it almost comes across as booing the team onto the pitch.....just strange in my opinion and despite some people's childishness I think that it was a valid question - especially as it was a no-lose attack.

I'm confused as to what you want and why you think you can slag the team off before the match starts....you've said you're STFC through and through, but do you back PDC through and through?
You would do well not to question some folks support especially the one`s that are there week in week out and have been for many many years.
PS when PDC has been here for 5-10yrs then my opinion of backing him through and through may change. until then i will support him as our manager just as i did last night, but i`ll save the sucking off for a few yrs yet.
.
Didn't question his support of STFC as I know he is but wondering why he has a go at PDC before a ball is kicked? (you may need to re-read that bit).

PS Roberts for player of the season if he stays fit, our strikers must start to reward Roberts for his superb work, trickery and delivery of the ball by getting on the end of it and putting it in the net, i can see someone getting a whacking soon Malk.
I don't do the, he played shat bit mate,it normally comes back and smacks me in the boat.
Analysis = moving in the right direction, love the football we are playing, still room for improvement, some of our players are yet to reach the best of form and watch out when they do,i expect further improvement when Paolo has worked out exactly who and what his best pairings are.
Finally i have high hopes of collecting some more cash off of the bookies at the end of the season, time will tell.
