RUGBY: Oakmeadians 27 Wootton Bassett 22

BASSETT picked up a losing bonus point from their first away trip of the season, but were denied more by a last-minute try.

The trip to Bournemouth seemed to take it out of the visitors early on as Oakmeadians capitalised on their running game to run in two converted tries to take a commanding lead.

Bassett got on the board with David Hogg’s penalty, but the home side kicked one of their own to maintain their 14-point lead.

The away side finally got into the game as winger Danny Randell finished off a move in the corner and the score boosted Bassett going into the second half.

A close-range score from second row Keith Adams followed and, with both sides making handling errors, Hogg booted a further penalty.

Oakmeadians responded with a try, but the missed conversion kept the visitors in the hunt and Hogg punished home indiscipline with two further penalties to bring the sides level.

The hosts had the final say however as with the last play of the match were able to steal ball in the Bassett half and finished with a try to take the win.
