TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Levi’s unstitched by Town Reserves

DIVISION Three newcomers Levi’s are finding the going tough and unless they can find the winning formula very shortly they could find themselves as this season’s whipping boys.

Levi’s hosted Trowbridge Town Reserves and it was the latter who took the points after a comfortable 6-1 win.

Both teams started brightly, with Trowbridge having the better of the opening exchanges with Tom Moore and Natty Mills both going close, however Levi’s picked up the pace and put pressure on the Trowbridge goal with a series of half chances and corners.

It was therefore slightly against the run of play when The Bees opened the scoring on 25 minutes through midfielder Kurt James after some clever work by winger Craig Neate.

Trowbridge took confidence from James’ opener, and when Mills opened up the Levi defence ten minutes later James bagged his second goal to put Town in full control.

An Aaron McCaldon free kick on 40 minutes, saw the ball come back of a Levi's defender for Chad Cain to lash home from the edge of the 18 yard box for Trowbridge's third of the half.

The second half played out in a similar fashion to the first. On 60 minutes, Town midfielder Kieran McCaldon fired in a shot from the edge of the box, and with the Levi's keeper only able to parry it, Mills stepped in to thump the loose ball home.

Levi's were awarded a penalty on 72 minutes and Jason Havrey tucked it away to bring the score back to 4-1.

But the introduction of Trowbridge subs Zack Manna, Ashley Poms and Phil Bicknell added further pace to the Bees game in the final half an hour.

Poms was unlucky with a snap shot which came back off the post, but was soon on the scoresheet with a cool finish after being put through by James in the 82nd minute and it was Poms who completed the scoring when added Trowbridge's sixth and his second on 88 minutes to wrap the game up.

Bradford United Reserves 3 Lacock FC 2

A LATE winner form Lee Ridout earned Bradford United Reserves their first win of the season, but the Culver Close club did things the hard way as they twice came from behind to beat Joe Martin’s previously unbeaten Lacock FC outfit 3-2.

Lacock, who were looking for a third straight win, opened the scoring through Liam Shipman and his goal separated the sides at the break.

Lance Davis opened his account for Bradford when he restored parity early in the second half.

Lacock regained the lead courtesy of Jamie Murphy but a second of the game from Davis squared things up again. 

With what was an entertaining contest seemingly heading for a draw, up popped Lee Ridout to grab the winner for Bradford and bring Lacock’s promising start to an abrupt end.

Polenez Westbury 3 Trowbridge Rangers 1

AFTER going so close to claiming an upset against Trowbridge Town Reserves last weekend, Polenez Westbury hosted league newcomers Trowbridge Rangers and for their second game of the season Lady Luck was on the side of Alan Jones side.

After taking nearly seven months and 20 games to record their first win of last season, it took them just 180 minutes of the new campaign as they claimed a 3-1 victory that they will hope to build on in the future.

Sebastian Koszycki put Polenez in front only for Dan Moore to cancel out his opener before half time.

The second half saw Krzystof Puchalski hand the lead back to Polenez and when the unfortunate Scott Wallace put through his own net to make it 3-1, Polenez knew that they could send the champagne corks popping six months earlier that they did last year. 

The Fleece 5 The Stiffs 1

AFTER opening up their league campaign with a 5-1 win over Levi’s last weekend, The Fleece followed up that win with another 5-1 success, this time against The Stiffs at The Beeches.

Tom A’Court started the ball rolling for the Fleece when he headed them in front.

A well-worked team goal which resulted in Nick Gleeson giving it the finish that the build up deserved made it 2-0. 

Tom Downes added number three in the second half and a second from A’Court who couldn’t hit a barn door last weekend made it 4-0.

A’Court had the chance to add a fifth from the penalty spot but his effort was saved by the Stiffs keeper. However A’Court responded quickest to the rebound as he tapped the ball in to net to complete a three timer with his team's fifth of the afternoon.

Youngster Ryan Parfitt was picked out as the Fleece’s man of the match but for the Stiffs it was their 47-year-old veteran Simon Lunt who stole the headlines when he scored their consolation.   

Westwood News 5 United FC 1

WESTWOOD News faced a tricky home fixture against United FC in a game that saw Mark Hurkett’s side go in search of a third successive win over a side who they had never beaten before.

However, this season’s new look Westwood side changed that statistic as they came from behind to claim a 5-1 win.

In what was an explosive encounter United took a 20th minute lead when the Westwood keeper dropped a Maciej Niedziela free kick into his net.

Westwood weren’t behind for long with Ashley Styles making it one apiece on 29 minutes.

Westwood went ahead in the second half through Ben Ludwell and they increased their lead from the penalty spot, not long after coming on Tom Rooney was upended by United’s keeper Lukasz Bareja, who was dismissed for the foul. From the resulting penalty Ben Cowdrey made it 3-1.

United fell apart after the spot kick and further goals from Steve Bryant and Lee Stevens who scored in injury time following a corner ensured Westwood kept their good start to the season going.
