SWINDON TOWN: It's Paolo's way or the highway as manager outlaws 'anarchists'
6:00am Friday 14th September 2012 in Sport By Sam Morshead
PAOLO Di Canio wants his Swindon Town players to show devotion to his regime as he looks to avoid his Robins side becoming an “anarchist team”.
Di Canio has developed a reputation as a hard task-master during his 16 months as manager at the County Ground , and he has proved in no uncertain terms that it is his way or the highway when it comes to training routines.
However, the Italian told the assembled press on Thursday that he feels some members of his squad still need to completely adapt to his methods and he is trying to rid them of old habits that they brought with them to SN1.
“I know that in different places there are different habits and I know it is not easy to cancel this in 40 days but it’s important to stop straight away the personal habits.
“Otherwise I signed 11 new players - if everyone came with this habit and wants to say his words, his opinion then it becomes an anarchist team.
“From Millwall, from Brighton, from Huddersfield - it’s true they all have similar habits but they can say ‘we used to warm up like this, we used to warm up like that, I used to warm up quickly in five or 10 minutes only, with Poyet we used to warm up for 25 minutes, but we used to use more of the ball, do what you want.’ “It’s not in a team that can follow. One manager sends the details and the regime and you have to follow with devotion because from now I don’t ask my players who wants to be professional.
“Who wants to stay has to follow me with devotion and believe in my job. I say that in a normal way because they are more mature now.
“Even one can cause a problem and you know what happened at the beginning of the season and I had to make a very tough decision.
“There is nothing incredibly wrong but we went straight to the point and clarified it and I really believe that we will change habits from now on.”
Swindon travel to Carlisle tomorrow bidding to end a three-match losing streak but they will have to do so without midfielder Alan Navarro who has a knee injury.
“Alan Navarro is out,” said Di Canio. “He has a little problem in a knee. It will take four or five days but it’s not a big, big deal.”
Giles Coke will also be missing as he recovers from a groin strain and Gary Roberts’ lower leg injury continues to keep the winger sidelined.
Troy Archibald-Henville could return to the matchday squad after shrugging off a knee complaint.

He may choose to play 1 up front with Bostock in the hole and Miller alongside Ferry.
If Devera keep his place it has to be because Paolo doesn't have the confidence toThompson a start, which would be a shame. Devera should be rested, he's played every game to date, but was way off the pace against the O's. Not so sure of your two centre back selection either, If Troy is fit I think he will start and I don't think Besonne has come here to sit on the bench either. Should be interest to see how he or McEverley deal with our ex-Mac down the right flank.

Agree with Ferry - has to be in the team as we look so much better with him dictating the play in the middle of the park.
--
Can you play Ferry and Bostock together?...might be a bit too attack minded - I'd like to see it but would be worried when we don't have the ball.
--
Has to be Collins and Benson or Williams and Benson...I'd like to see the latter start as both chase the ball down well and just keep on running.

Totally behind the manager in taking whatever steps he needs to in order to get the squad working as one. The last thing we need is ego's in the dressing room taking over and ending up in a similar situation to the one we had at then end of Wilson's regime.

PDC should read this and modify what is his one failing as a manager. Yes the team has to work as one and discipline is important but everyone is an individual and we all respond in different ways. Learn that Mr P and you WILL be a top manager

If you could come up with a list of mild mannered, non-shouty managers who've made found success maybe it'd hold more weight. Bryan Robson... Nope, can't think of any others, must be some though. In some ways acting and playing sport are totally opposite ends of the spectrum - in sport, especially football, a lot is dictated in the moment, and depends on individual creativity to make things happen. You certainly can't script a football match - my bets would come up every week if you could!
Just read a book by Eric Sykes who describes the man management used by Peter Hall who directed many world famous plays - actors are about as temperamental as Footballers. The quote is as follows; "Some directors gain reputations by yelling, screaming and generally drawing adverse attention to themselves. I maintain that behaviour of this kind is counter productive, childlike and a substitute for talent. In all the time I watched Peter's handling of well established temperamental actors, I never once heard him raise his voice. If he had any admonishments or criticisms to pass on he delivered them quietly and personally. He had the ability to reach people minds, to treat everyone as individuals by instinctively knowing which buttons to press" PDC should read this and modify what is his one failing as a manager. He just says it is very different and takes time to adapt
.
That doesn't mean there is an issue
.
Any new job sees people take time to settle
.
I just think PdC is simply reaffirming to all the squad "old" and "new" we must all be in this together and pull in one direction if we want to repeat lasts seasons success
.
That is what happend after Clarkegate - and think this is what is happening now after week from hell gate
