SWINDON TOWN: Ritchie extension confirmed

MATT Ritchie has penned a new deal with Swindon Town, keeping him at the County Ground until the summer of 2014 - the club has confirmed.

Ritchie, who arrived in Wiltshire on an initial loan deal in February 2010, signed permanently with Town 11 months later and has since become one of the Swindon squad's most integral players.

He was voted the best player in League Two last season as the Robins stormed to promotion, and the club have had to fend off persistent interest for his signature from Bournemouth over the past year.

So thats it then , he's being sold. Not really but some will be thinking that and posting doom and gloom.
Ritchie is a very decent player , but not our best player but I'm happy that he's signed on for a while longer.

That's good news. But just a one-year extension to make it 20 months? Surely we should be offering him a three or four-year deal?

Great news, shame we wasn't playing against the scummy dirty yellows. Would have been a completely different result

Stillloyal - I can see how you can interpret it that way. Stay with us until the end of this season, then we'll let you go, but we'll get a fee for you as you still have one year left on your contract.

I was joking terrier and if you read it properly then you'll get it mate. I did say "not really".

Fantastic news. You've only got to look at our last two (woeful) performances to know how much we rely on Ritchie.

If we go up, I think he'll stay with us in the Championship. If we fail, I think he'll be on his way, but for a large fee.

The doubters are going to struggle even more to find reason to complain about this club. One of our hottest properties has committed himself further to the club's ambition. Things can't be that bad at the County Ground :-)

Ah - but I've now rationalised your (my) reasoning and am starting to believe it!

I'd like to know why we didn't offer our prized asset a three or four year deal? Maybe we did and Ritchie didn't want it, and your 'prophecy' may have legs.

Haha you never know mate , we never know the full story of anything that goes on down at the County Ground, sometimes it's best not to know.

Yeh, but we should have beaten them without Ritchie. Having witnessed hoofball again I'm really happy we aren't in that ruddy league anymore.

Just goes to show how miserable our senior players are and how they hate the training regime under PDC - they'll all want to leave soon!!....oh hang on a minute, he's staying another year even though they all want out!?
--
I think Lionel probably on the mark in that, we go up he stays and will sign for another extension, we stay down then he can go with PDC's blessing and play in the Championship.
...
Mind you if we don't go up it may even be PDC that signs him from the Championship!?

Good news on all fronts with Ritchie as it demonstrates the underlying feeling in the squad if one of our best is as happy as ever (He has always stated he didn't want to leave along with Ferry...nicely settled in Swindon)

Hope Ferry is given an extension too - I rate him at least as highly as Matt Ritchie and he needs to be held onto as well. I can see Birmingham coming in for him now his mate Caddis is there - he is easily championship standard.

Yes is good news and a plus facture is the Player say's he has allways wanted to stay with the Town.
You will get rumours/speculation etc,as other Teams will still be looking at MR as he is a class Player. So good we have this extension.

Good deal, people would complain just as much if he signed a four year extension then ended up injured long term or had a drop in form - good for club and player this way

London Red says...
1:33pm Sat 8 Sep 12

Fantastic news and should as said above a few doubters - as why would Matt sign if it is that bad here?
.
Won't he be 24 by the summer so able to move for free if out of contract? (I know he can move even if 23 - but it removes the compensation element)
.
One year is fine as boost his price to silly levels in Jan as we won't have to "cash in" due to his deal expiring in 6 months
.
Then we can always renegotiate again this time next year - as we will know if we are Championship or not by then
