SWINDON TOWN: Bostock delighted to be back with Town

John Bostock John Bostock

THROUGHOUT his interviews with the local press yesterday, Swindon Town’s new loan signing John Bostock had a smile imprinted on his face from ear to ear.

The Tottenham midfielder was evidently delighted to have secured a return to Wiltshire, where he made many friends and gained plenty of admirers during a brief spell with the Robins towards the end of last term.

Throughout the summer, both Town manager Paolo Di Canio and Bostock himself had been keen to come to an agreement to bring the 20-year-old back to the County Ground this season.

But Bostock had started to accept that was never going to happen when Thursday morning came round and still no deal had been reached.

However, after some late negotiations, Bostock will stay with Swindon until January - when he could potentially swap Spurs white for Town red on a permanent basis, and he couldn’t be happier about making what he called a “natural” return to SN1.

“There was talk at the end of last season that I would be back fairly shortly but that kind of fell through so I focused on my game at Tottenham,” he said.

“I had the phone call yesterday (Thursday) saying ‘John the deal’s back on, pack your bags’ and here I am now. I’m happy to be back.

“There’s always talk and rumours and I knew the interest was there from Swindon and I was hoping that would go through. Two days away from the close of the window I thought it would be a bit tight but I’m happy to be back and I’m really glad we got something sorted so I can get some games under my belt.

“The lads were happy to see me and I was even more happy to see them.

“I was coming back to somewhere I know really well. They made it easy for me the first time for me to fit in so it just felt natural to come back here.

“Now we’re in League One the next step is the Championship. I believe that we’re more than capable to do that. We just have to work hard.”

Bostock did not want to be drawn on what could happen come the turn of the year, with his loan deal expiring on January 7.

“I’m tempted to think about it but I don’t really want to dwell on it,” he said.

“I think that in my career I just need to take it each step as it comes. Two days ago I was in London thinking ‘when’s the next Tottenham development game’, I had the phone call and now I’m here, preparing for the game on Sunday.

“I don’t want to look too far ahead. I’m here until January, and whatever happens then happens.”

This was "THE" signing for me, to get the others purely ridiculous. To see how well he got n here last year after he's moved about a bit, to see him relish the training and playing and the welcome back. It's just superb. Top top stuff all around. We really have a squad for all occasions. Yes you could argue Paolo has a job keeping them all happy but I think he can do it.

The fact that we didn't sell anyone either is brilliant. If Caddis performs well on loan at Birmingham that will only put his price up as he has two years to run.

Back to back to back promotions coming. Watching the birth of a managerial legend. Isn't he already?! Build a statue of him when he takes us to the Premiership.

Bostocks attitude has been questioned in the past but I have never seen that while with us
.
Think PdC is just what he needs to ensure he finally meets his potential - bit like Arry was what PdC needed at that point in his career

Delighted to have Bostock back, he would be a fantastic permanant signing if we could get him in January. That would set us up nicely for next season and maybe the one after that because this guy is a thoroughbred. Paolo is going to have such a headache with so many choices. What a fantastic squad - not a 2nd rater anywhere. Wish we could play 18 a side ......

The quality coming in is superb and I'm over the moon to have John Bostock back. With so much quality, hope some players don't get disappointed, although I'm sure the gaffer will have them all chomping at the bit.
My dear ol' Pa has not seen Town play for a while but has been amazed after watching the Stoke and Crawley games, he believes there's surely not a team in this division to match them.

Class player. Will make it a very difficult choice now for attacking midfield and striking options.

What's happened to Benson?

Think PdC is simply thinking long term
.
Benson is now 33 and has to be managed - ie neck last year and his slight knock this year
.
PdC therefore want to "manage" him out by bringing in younger players to take over from him
.
Benson will still feature this year as he is a top professional and offers something different to the others - just not every game
.
He himself sai he could have done with a few breaks last year - this year we have that option
.
Forwards and Midfielders win games from the bench and we now have a wonderful set of options to choose from
.
Also a major thing is training - the chickens will learn so much from Ward, Miller and Benson that they will continue to develop by having them around - so could be worth their wage for that reason alone

London red,

For someone who gets to so few games, you often post absolute rubbish.

Benson was one of the main reasons we got promoted and now you are talking about PDC 'managing him out'

Perhaps you can offer your services to replace him and if so,what size boots do you take?

You used to post mainly constructive comments, but are increasingly becoming a bit of a dick.

Why not contact Paul Benson and discuss his situation with him?

Joey, why the character assassination?

LR is certainly not the first you have had a go at. I've been a dick more than I want to remember, as most of us probably have, but thankfully I don't have someone behind me throwing it in my face at every opportunity.

Part of the enjoyment of this site is the variety of views, and is something I look forward to reading most days. If I disagree I might put my view..or just move on.

Personally I don't know anything about Rooney but one thing is for sure the way Collins and Williams have started I'd have thought Benson is down the pecking order. Wouldn't go as far as London and see him managed out but don't think he'll start as many as last season.

I think that's a fair view and as someone said on here previously, Benson himself would probably be happy to be used more sparingly.

I just hope there isn't more to his absence. There's been a huge number of changes which you'd expect moving up a league but we have to keep quality where we can for the sake of consistency.

It's funny how we sing mainly at matches about DiCanio and not the players. We could perhaps benefit from focusing on a playing hero?

Feel for Benson but i will stick my neck out here and predict Rooney to out score our own strikers, he scores for fun and at lge1 level i believe he will be phenomenal, i remember him when he played for bury he seemed to score every timed they played. His career scoring ratio is bl00dy decent as well, i think we have signed yet another winner. As long as he settles i can see him being a favorite with our fans,

Impress the Governor,fill your boots.

Benno did a great job last year but this seasons acquisitions put him only 4th in the pecking order imo. He must be having a sense of de javu as this was the situation at his last club.
Anyone know of a live feed for todays game?
