SWINDON TOWN: Bessone: Six-month deal was my idea
6:00am Saturday 1st September 2012 in Sport By Sam Morshead
Federico Bessone
FEDERICO Bessone has revealed that it was his decision to sign a permanent, six-month contract at Swindon Town rather than join the Robins on loan .
The former Swansea full-back, 28, became Paolo Di Canio’s first signing on Deadline Day when he penned a short-term deal in Wiltshire.
It was originally believed the Argentinian would be a temporary fixture at the County Ground but Bessone told the local media yesterday that he wanted to fight for the chance for a long-term future at SN1.
“It’s my choice. To be fair with you, if I had to come on loan here for me it’s not the same,” he said. “I’m thinking ‘I’m coming on loan from Swansea, Premier League’ and I thought the best idea for me is just to leave Swansea because I knew already that I wasn’t going to have any chances.
“I spoke with my agent, he spoke with the chairman there and they agreed to let me go so that’s why.
“I think it’s better that way. I came here for six months and if I want to stay here I have to work really, really hard.
“I have to prove I want to stay here and play.”
Bessone, who has also played for Leeds and Charlton over the course of four years in England, has found chances hard to come by in south Wales of late and featured just twice for the Swans last term.
And now he is keen to put his recent past behind him and become an integral member of a Swindon side targeting promotion. “I just played two games last season and I’m 28 years old and I need to play games,” he said.
“I knew that Paolo was looking for a left-back. I came here on Wednesday, had a chat with him, I was really happy with the things he said to me so I want to be part of his project here in Swindon.
“The first two seasons at Swansea were amazing, the second year especially with Paulo Sousa was my best year here in the UK. I moved to Leeds, I started playing, I had some problems and finally I went on loan to Charlton where I enjoyed myself playing some games.
“I came back to Swansea and I thought I would have more chances but the team was good, they had a really good season so I didn’t have the chance to get on the team.
“It was quite hard for me, I just kept working and I was thinking this season with a new manager, everything was new and there might be new chances for me.
“But Michael Laudrup said Neil Taylor played 35 games last season, I just played two games, so he would like to stay with the same team so my chances will be the same as last year.
“That’s why I spoke with him, he has been really good with me, and I was looking for somewhere to go and try to enjoy myself again.
“All I want now is to play some games, get my confidence high again and show to everybody that I’m a good player.”

Top attitude and what competition just for left back. He wants to prove himself and get a permanent deal. He'll have to be some player to dislodge Jay.

.
Now that is 3 windows he has staued - will people start believing Wray????? Or even Matt himself????
.
Losses have to be made in L1 due to lack of TV revenue - the board are prepared to take them in order to prosper in the Championship
.
Selling Ritchie would hinder that and they know that - so only something special would prize him away
.
With all respect to him he has not proven he is worth the £2.5m PdC quoted so as we have seen - no takers have come forth

Smirg did you actually think Ritchie was off?

Still unsure who will travel and not travel on Sunday. This is when the di canio affect will play a big part, keeping the dressing room. After all under Wilson we was relegated this time two seasons ago.
Interesting kitson moved to sheff and beavon will play against us Sunday .
Apart from then no much happened in our division,
Promotion on March 9. Against Walsall, champions mar30 at home to Oldham.

As I said I do know a massive bid would be accepted - but I don't expect one to come in unless he has a fantastic 4 or 5 months
.
I'm confident Ritchie will be a Championship player next season and a Swindon player

We have heard comments like when Ward is not picked he trains extra hard to get picked
.
If all know they will get a chance at some point I think they will be happy
.
It's when you have Wilspn picking the same XI no matter what where unrest creeps in
.
I sure players would prefer 15-20 starts and 15-20 sub appearances in a title winning side than 40 starts in an average team going no where
.
Collins said that was his motivation was to experience the feeling post Port Vale!

What do you think the going rate for him is now? And Austin if he was still here?I
Bearing in mind
Rhodes 8 million
And Moses for 9 million? I no Austin is older, but I still think we gave him away.
Mind you Dempsey 4 and berbatov 4 must be the steal of the day.
Going tomorrow now so can't wait.

I think the board are right to demand £2.5m as if they want him they should have to pay for him
.
That is how Rhodes went for £8m and Rodiques for £7m
.
Realistically a top L1 player is worth around £1.5m as we saw with Cox and Austin - so I guess Ritchie "true worth" would be there
.
Austin wasn't given away in my opinion as £1.6m is still a lot and 20% on top could see another million or so if he follows Rodriques!
.
We have to remember he went public and handed in a transfer request which left the board with little option - plus he has his dodgy shoulder (have you seen how it is strapped up each game!) so we did well there
.
He has not banged in 30+ or 40+ once let alone regularly or played internationally so will never be valued as highly as Rhodes
.
However 17 last season and 20+ this year should see him move to the £5m mark
.
20% of that profit (3.4m) would be about another £750k - so nearly £2.5m - not bad on a £10k buy!!!
.
Wes is our real meal ticket and if he goes for under £5m I will be very disappointed and angry - when we make the Championship and he finally gets a call up then that should and could even top £10m - could you ever have imagined that before?

Looks like Swansea will be needing a left back!
From BBC match report!
This looks serious, and it is bad news for Swansea and Wales because their left-back Neil Taylor has just been carried off on a stretcher after a serious-looking ankle injury.

Team could be :
Fodderingham
Devera Flint Macca Bensonne
Ritchie Millar Navarro De Vita
Williams Collins
bench ; Bedwell, Ward, Coke, Rooney L, Ronney A, Ferry, Bostock,
Never second guessed Paolo yet, but I would have thought that will be close to the 18, unless he includes Thompson as extra cover and leaves Luke Rooney out as he has not featured this year which is a pity, as I do like him and can turn a game with his pace.

Think Besonne could start today if Jay hasn't recovered from his head injury, papers are tipping Coke to start as well, but can't see who he would replace. the rest of new signings could well be on the bench which should be very strong. If Jay is out, we also still have Archibald-H, Benson and Roberts all injured, so a strong squad is very important not to have any weak links.
