SWINDON TOWN: Ward and Bostock arrive on loan

John Bostock John Bostock

PAOLO Di Canio added two more names to his Swindon Town squad yesterday with the signings of Darren Ward and John Bostock on loan until January.

Millwall centre-back Ward put pen to paper on a short-term deal with the Robins yesterday evening, with a view to a permanent move at the beginning of next year.

Town’s interest in the 33-year-old was revealed by the Advertiser on Saturday, after Ward was pictured with his agent outside the County Ground . Ward could now be involved in Di Canio’s matchday squad when the Swindon manager takes his team to Preston North End in League One on Sunday.

Tottenham’s Bostock also completed his long-protracted return to Wiltshire. Di Canio has been chasing the midfielder for most of the summer after he impressed during a loan spell with the Robins towards the back end of last season.

Meanwhile, a busy day is anticipated at SN1, with the transfer deadline looming at 11pm this evening. Swansea full-back Federico Bessone is believed to be close to finalising a move and could well become Di Canio’s first capture of the day.

Bessone is understood to have undergone a medical in Swindon yesterday.

Di Canio has mentioned that he could end up recruiting up to five new players by the time the window closes.

That would mean more than one departure from the County Ground, the most high-profile of which is set to be right-back Paul Caddis.

The Robins’ former captain is expected to join Birmingham today after reports suggested Swindon could receive Blues forward Adam Rooney in return for Caddis’ services.

Other players could also leave Wiltshire on loan to free up space for further arrivals.

Di Canio said yesterday that he is confident those coming in are well suited to his style of management.

“The players that join us, we have followed them already for a minimum of two or three weeks or one month to properly check their physical condition, their attitude, speaking with people who have worked with them in the past so it’s easy,” he said.

“Obviously, even if they have knowledge and quality I have to tell them exactly what is going on with us in terms of discipline, training regimes and the way we play.

“This is normal for me, it will take no longer because the players who will join us are intelligent.”

I cant remember such enthusiastic teambuilding at STFC ! These signings are great - deffo not hasbeens and neverwillbe`s and it`s obvious that ambitious players are happy to get on board The Swindon Express ! Alas on the debit side I predict youngsters like Nathan and Miles going the Billy Bodin route . We shall see !

I assume you mean out on loan, could happen, I think someone mantioned yrsterday Luke Rooney migh also go out on loan, hope not same as his namesake an impact player that can change games.

Question is what do we do with Ollie Risser, he's so far down the pecking order now, it's hard to see how he'll retain his place on the bench, let alone start a game.

I've heard that Olly Risser might depart to a League 2 Club (Cheltenham) by 11 tonight.......

Brilliant News last night........

I honestly think if we can beat the likes of MK and Sheffield in their back yards, there'll be no-one in that league that'll touch us!!

And if we do get beat, it'll be our fault switching off, you know having a really bad day...but then, it'll only be by the 1 goal or so.

Before the season started i was hoping play offs.......

Now..........League 1 title Min.....

Amazing, Amazing oh did i say Amazing!!!

In all the years.....not as many as some....I've never seen or experienced a more positive, exciting, happy time as time time were having right now.....i will chrrish this feeling for a long long time.

Bring on the Preston Sunday.

The Billy Bodin route ? Loan leading to eventual signing was what I had in mind. Risser has been a fave for the bench because, I believe , he has above-average goalkeeping skills for an outfield player.. As I said We shall see !

A surfeit of riches! So good to have Bostock back just hope we can we fit them all in and keep them happy. Financially we must be stretching ourselves, we need those stayaway fans to come back in numbers. This team deserves to be playing in front of a packed County Ground, not 7 - 8k each week. Hopefully some of the fairweathers will return although I can understand the problems with affordability, particularly fans with family - it ain't cheap (but it is worth it!). COYR

Now we're allowed 7 on the bench, we don't need an outfield player to cover the bench, besides which his goal keeping skills are only rumours, he has never been asked to play in goal at his time with us.

I often hear about Risser and his goalkeeping skills although I for one have never seen them. We have Bedwell on the bench too so I really don't get that argument about Risser. We have better players than him and I as Old Town Robin said it's hard to see how he could even be on the bench on matchdays. I can see Rooney (Luke) and Miles Storey being loaned out too for much the same reasons.

Sky Sports understands Swindon Town have made a move to land Nicky Ajose from Peterborough United.

Ajose has only just joined Crawley Town on-loan, but he has impressed at the Broadfield Stadium.

He scored the winning goal as Crawley dumped Bolton Wanderers out the League Cup last week, but now his time at the Red Devils could be coming to a quick end.

Town boss Paolo di Canio is looking to bolster his squad on deadline day with a number of new arrivals and one of those could be Ajose.

What does anyone else think?

No ARGUMENT about Risser ! I just said " I believe " ! There have been times when Bedwell has not been on the bench but Risser has ..

Not this year - Bedwell has been there all season
.
Risser could well go now as we have seen that Ferry, Navarro and Miller can play in there - so any of them could support Bostock
.
So that is now 4 in - guess Ritchie has to go to pay for it!

It is great to see very strong signings coming into the club. My only slightly negative thought is about the volume of new faces and how long it might take them to bed into the squad. As I said however, the quality of the signings is fantastic!

I said on another thread that the squad is now showing strength, depth and most importantly competition. No wonder the team are playing well, you have to to keep your place.

Don't see Ritchie going, didn't the directors inject close to £2M earlier to help fund what we are now seeing ?

Would like to see a keeper arrive. I am not doubting Leigh's ability, I just feel you need 3 to cover such a vital position.

There was talk at Stoke that MR was off to Wolves for £2m but not seen anything to fuel that rumour?

There is only 1 reason me, my wife and my eldest boy are picking and choosing games this season - MONEY - pure and simple.
.
We would all dearly love to go to every game home and away and witness the good times, especially after 30 odd years of consistent dross with the odd good season thrown in for good measure!!!!!!!!!
.
Oh well...........

Sadly I'm in the same boat as Avo - I need to pick and choose my games. Business is uncertain in these times, which means I'm using the credit card more than I should to ensure I get to see most home games.

At least it's money well spent these days going to the County Ground. I was a bit disappointed we did not hammer home our superiority on Saturday, then read that MK were Coral's favourites to win the league.

There's no pleasing some people!

It seems the 'establishment' have finally accepted the Special One. The BBC is now running a monthly column written by Paolo. Now the rest of the country can get a glimpse of what they're missing.

A little coup there for Gary - and a little bonus to go with it perhaps?
