Good draw. And Charlie Austin will get a good reception from me. He is without doubt one of the finest strikers to wear the shirt of Swindon Town. Not only that, he struggled manfully - almost single-handedly - to keep the ship afloat for half a season in 2010/11. He would have needed the patience of a saint to carry on any longer than that.

Better than both Cox and Parkin. Much better in the air than Cox and much more mobile than Parkin. I hope you're right about Collins - because if you are we will have a multi-million pound player on our hands.

The best Swindon striker I've seen (over the last 50 years) (Sir Don apart) was Alan Mayes.
Andy Rowland partnered him. They scored 55-56 goals between them in one season.

Might have been the 1979-80 season

Following his recent hat-trick Collins will be seen as a striker to be doubled up on which will limit his goal scoring opportunities.Willia
ms will then get more scope and with Bostock and / or Benson around opposing defences are in for a nightmare ! It`s gonna be good folks !

Can't agree, Mondy. Mayes was sharp and nippy but he didn't have Austin's strength or heading ability. I would put Austin, Peter Eastoe and Peter Noble way ahead of Alan Mayes - and I liked Mayes a lot.

Who am I,
rarely agree with you, even though we're both ex-Pinehurst, but on this occassion, I totally agree, it must have something to do with we were both brought up to respect others and would never sh1t on our own door step. CA had no loyalty for us or his fellow team members, he was a rotten apple in a team of disharmony with a weak manager. I'm too mature to boo him, but he certainly won't get any applause from me,

I'm sorry certain posters think we should welcome him back as the prodigical son, not for me, he plays for another team and we owe him nothing and certainly should not be welcomed back as a legend or one of us.

A repeat of the '69 semi-final decider at west brom would be great, maybe an omen to go further in this cup.

Den,

Have to agree with you 100% about Peter Eastoe. Probably our best forward after Sir Don.

But Don Rogers was just so much better and is unlikely to be replaced as the very best Town striker ever.

Even allowing for the fact that Mondeaux is a bit of a dick, he is wrong about Mayes!!

Oi'Den, you seem a bit tetchy tonight, disagreeing with Mondeaux, LR and a few others, Austin started off his career with us as an exceptional talent, but you should know to be respected a player has to demonstrate to be a decent person off the field as well as on it.

He may have been a brick layer, but would he have been a grave digger like Ernie Hunt and Mick Summerbee. Don't think so, got too big for his boots I'm afraid.

I said yesterday, when people were clamoring for a big name tie away. I wished for a home tie against a somewhat lesser club - no offence to any left n the compotition.

So its Burnley at home in the next round of the League Cup.

Higher opposition again, but nothing the team can't handle. Being at home, it's one we should fancy to win.

Lets hope so. I feel a v good run developing in this competion.

Burnley struggled to beat a poor Plymuff side at home, beat them on Pens,we should beat them and get to the last 16,think the bookies will have us as favourites to win being at home.

I loved CA and his goal record is amazing, and continues to be at Burnley. However to be as well regarded as Cox and Parkin (who got a goal every other game for 3 seasons remember) he should have stayed at least to the end of the season. And in all the talk of great forwards I can't believe no ones mentioned Duncan Shearer - a true Town Great.

They certainly don't fancy their chances.

Still, we are not playing their fans are we.

Our boys will definately be up for this match and PdC will be looking for another higher league scalp to put in the dug-out, next to Bristol C, Exeter, Huddersfield, Colchester, Wigan, Brighton and Stoke.

I see Bostock has rejoined us.About time too. Welcome back John.

Bit unfair IMO as the 3 you have mentioned were different type of players, Mayes at 5ft nothing you wouldn't expect him to have the heading ability of the others.

All four were great strikers, Alan was helped greatly by Andy Rowland and Charlie by Paynter, but in and around the box IMO they were on a par, rarely missed the target.

It is a decent draw with local interest but my worry is that Austin is targetted instead of the crowd getting behind the team.

Typical. Six clubs left in the hat, including Swindon, three Premier League clubs one of which was West Ham, Dirty Leeds, And Burnley. We get the short straw.

Still, evokes memories of our famous semi-final win over Burnley in 1969 when they were flying high at the top of League 1 (the real League 1). Beat them 3-2 at Turf Moor with a cracker from Peter Noble I think (but was just a little kid). Games like that were the real greatest games in our history - Stoke was awesome, but not up there with beating the best in English football when they were really trying with their first eleven picked and playing in front of packed houses.

I think Austin was a better striker for us than both Parkin and Cox. Certainly a better natural finisher, which is what you want from your strikers.

I would put only Duncan Shearer above him as a better out and out centre forward in my time supporting the club.

I take your point Oxon. I think I would just say that I think Mayes and Austin were great goalscorers for us but Austin had the better all round game, so that puts him ahead. Without looking it up, I'd have a bet that his goals per game ratio was better too.

I saw 2 of the semi final games against Burnley Terrier. We beat them 2-1 at Turf Moor, they beat us 2-1 at the County Ground and then the 3-2 game which I saw at The Hawthorns decided it for us. Noble's volley is still etched on my mind. Superb player. Happy days are here again though - what a team we are assembling!

Win this and we're in the last 16 - VERY winnable with our team now - then hopefully we'd play top Prem League in the middle of their most demanding Champions League schedule moments...Man Utd (/or other) at home a week before they play a crucial CL game....ESS! TEE! EFF! CEE!
