SWINDON TOWN: Di Canio anticipates between one and five new faces

Paolo Di Canio Paolo Di Canio

PAOLO Di Canio has revealed he could sign between one and five players for Swindon Town before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

Speaking to the local media this afternoon, Di Canio said the number of arrivals could depend on the number of departures from the County Ground over the next 30 hours.

Darren Ward and Federico Bessone are expected to finalise deals with the Robins before Friday’s deadline, while Paul Caddis is set to complete his switch to Birmingham.

But Di Canio could not give a definitive answer when asked how many players could join Town.

“Can be one, can be five,” he said.

“It’s not a problem about the budget but until I see people leave it’s difficult to predict if it can be one or two or five, but this is the number that can happen in the next 24 hours.

“I don’t want to say for sure one because you never know until you sign but it can be one but also five. In the middle maybe there is a truth.

“But one or five - we will see in the next few hours.”

Meanwhile, Di Canio admitted he was getting excited thinking about the players who could link up with the Robins in time for Sunday’s trip to Preston.

“I want to stay focused with my brain on my players, but if I think about the players who can join us in the next few hours aleady I’m thinking of the different options I can have, the different ways to attack the opponent,” he said.

“There is a moment when I think ‘if we can have this, this and this it will be good because we can have a larger squad with a very high level of quality’ but I have to stay focused on Sunday.

“This year will be crucial to have many players to fight for their places.”

Di Canio expects anyone who joins Town in the next day or so to be fully prepared and perfectly suited for life under his rule.

“The player that join us, we have followed them already for a minimum of two or three weeks or one month to properly check their physical condition, their attitude, spaking with people who have worked with them in the past so it’s easy," he said.

“Obviously, even if they have knowledge and quality I have to tell them exactly what is going on with us in terms of discipline, training regimes and the way we play.

“This is normal for me, it will take no longer because the players who will join us they are intelligent, someone is and adult adult, someone is young but with already great experience so I’m not worried.

“If they join us today we have one more day to prepare."

Only concern would be new players walking straight into the side - obviously we want to play the best team we can but that won't necessarilly be the best team on paper. Would like to see the new faces put through their paces on the training ground before upsetting the balance of what is currently a very, very good team.

On a completely different note, getting used to the new official site now, but has anyone noticed that there no longer seems to be info on away ticket allocation or amount of tickets sold? Was trying to look up the away allocation for the pompey match but can only guess from what they normally allocate it'll be around 2000. Should be more than ample but would be nice to know.

Would be sad to see Caddis go, but if we get Rooney for him it would ease the pain a fair bit. Class wee striker and fantastic prospect for the future.

It looks as though a few faces will be leaving in the next 24 hours. I can see Rooney going for starters. Even with Roberts injured he can't get a game. De Vita is ahead of him and when he is subbed PDC seems to favour moving Miller out on the left to accomodate Ferry and Navarro. I'm not sure what is going through Rooney's mind on a match day but he can't be happy warming the bench. His all round game isn't good enough for Paolo so I don't see he has a future here. Gillingham have come into some money off the back of the Matt Jarvis transfer so I wonder if they'll invest some of it to get him back. Perhaps league 2 is his level ??

I see Risser moving on too. Paolo has said he is behind the other central midfield players. He also looks to be a league 2 player at best and at his age he needs to be playing games. I wouldn't be sorry to see him go either but that's another story.

If we do sign a striker then that could also see Miles Storey loaned out to get regular football. With Collins, Williams, Benson and AN Other to choose from I don't see him getting much of an opportunity.

Along with Caddis that could mean four players being sold or loaned out during this window. We'll see.

Stokes, brilliant, loving that.

Cheered me up no end after a 'mare of a day. keep them coming and I'm hoping for Utd away. Missed the away game in the Premier League to meet my then girlfriend who became my wife and then ex wife. Careless on all counts....

Ward signed on loan with view to permanent move in January. Brilliant stuff, means he'll be keen as mustard and we don't have to have him if we don't fancy him.

Take 11/2 people it'll never last!

We will be signing him as he is quality!
.
We are good as it is - now add a quality experienced leader back there and we are only going to get tighter!
.
Ward, Bessone and A.Rooney - on top of what we have - things are really looking up
.
Out I only see Caddis as part of the Rooney deal as the others are straight replacements and Rooney is the missing forward
.
Glad I got money on at 10-1 as its going to only get smaller and smaller fro now on in - no gifts of 20+ this season that is for sure

Rooney and Ward incoming, Caddis, maybe the other Rooney or Risser or Who ever leaving. I think we are open to offers on several players so we can balance the books against others who may be incoming, all theory, but as PDC says. its down to budgets

Hope the home gate goes up to reflect the performance of the team and ambition of the club.

I think its time we should be pushing towards 10k. Surely now the stay away supporters can see the genuine intent of the Chairman, manager and Team.

I think its time we started thinking about righting some of the injustices done to our side in the past, not being able to play in the UEFA cup in 1969-70, being demoted in the 90s from the premiership. Paulo and team get us into the Europa league by winning the league cup. Become a legend that will never be forgotten. You can do it believe!

I see we've got Burnley at home in the next round of the League Cup.

Higher opposition again, but nothing the team can't handle. Being at home, it's one we should fancy to win.
