CRICKET: Fingers crossed for Liam
3:00pm Friday 31st August 2012 in Sport
LIAM Dawson is hoping that Hampshire and his old village club Goatacre will both have reason to celebrate come Saturday evening.
The 22-year-old Calne all-rounder was part of the Hampshire Royals side that lifted the Friends Life t20 trophy at the SWALEC Stadium on Saturday and this weekend, Dawson and his team-mates will bid to reach the final of the CB40 at Lord’s as they take on Sussex in the semi-final at Hove.
Meanwhile, Goatacre will be chasing an extraordinary third successive promotion as they take on Keynsham in their final match of the season in the West of England Premier League Premier Two division.
“All Goatacre need is a point and I’m sure that they’ll get that on Saturday,” said Dawson, whose brother Brad will feature for the villagers in their crunch clash this weekend.
“I’ve got my own game to concentrate on but I’m sure that when I switch my phone back on afterwards, I’ll have a bunch of text messages come through saying that they’ve been promoted.
“It would be a great achievement for them and they deserve it because they’ve played some fantastic cricket this week.
“Hopefully both Hampshire and Goatacre can celebrate on Saturday and maybe we can organise a decent party together.”
