SWINDON TOWN: Bessone set for Swindon move?
5:00am Thursday 30th August 2012 in Sport Exclusive By Sam Morshead
PAOLO Di Canio appears to have narrowed his search for new recruits before Friday’s transfer deadline, as Federico Bessone arrived at the County Ground yesterday to meet with the Swindon manager.
The Swansea defender was pictured by the Advertiser entering the stadium, alongside his agent, on Wednesday.
Bessone, a 28-year-old Argentinian who has played 42 times for the Swans over two separate spells in south Wales, is primarily a left-back and would potentially fill the space left by the recent departure of Alessandro Cibocchi.
The summer transfer window slams shut on Friday night, and Di Canio has already stated his intention to bring in two or three new players before that time - with a defender and a striker top of that list.
Bessone, who has also played for Leeds and Charlton in his four-year English career, has not featured for Swansea since their 2-1 defeat to Bolton in the fourth round of the FA Cup in January.
However, he did make 13 appearances for Charlton last term, helping them to the League One title.
Meanwhile, the Advertiser understands negotiations regarding a potential move for Millwall defender Darren Ward remain ongoing.
Lions boss Kenny Jackett has given Ward his blessing to discuss a switch to Wiltshire but insisted the centre-back could still be involved at the New Den if a deal is not completed.

Why does the 'transfer window' always 'slam' shut? Can't someone shut it quietly? And why 'window' anyway? It's a period of time. How about 'transfer period'?

If he comes here I see him as cover for Jay, so probably very similar to Cibbocci for his level of competence, which isn't bad, wish him well.

Had a look at Fredrico's profile on the Net, Martinez brought him here on an italian passport after he made quite a few appearanaces with Barcelona B and Espanyol B. Another decent step up in quality from last season, and I just love the way Paolo likes to build his squad with continual improvement on the departures.

He never actually played for us in League One. He arrived at the same time as Pintado just after we'd been promoted to the Championship. People are also forgetting that under Paulo Sousa he was one of the best full backs in the Championship and his surging runs forward were one of the highlights of that season.
Good luck to him wherever he goes

MILLWALL boss Kenny Jackett is expecting Darren Ward to wrap up a move to Swindon Town before the transfer window closes tomorrow.
The defender is set to move to the County Ground on loan initially, with the option to make it a permanent arrangement in January.
The League One outfit - who knocked Stoke out of the Capital One Cup in midweek - had agreed terms with the Lions at the end of last week.
And Jackett told the South London Press that it seemed likely a transfer would happen.
Asked if a deal was close to being completed, he said: "It seems it. I think that it is probably moving to a conclusion but it isn't sealed yet."

If Macca 's not careful he'll be serving a one match come October.
Great to see young Thompson have a great showing on Tuesday even if it was a brief one , but it was against Premier forwards.

Wiki careers are not always the best indicator as it doesn't highlight the level they were at - as the Swan fan points out good at L1 and Championship level - but not featuring at Premiership
.
Considering we are L1 then he sounds like a good addition
.
Hope he and Ward do come off and that will leave us sorted at the back
.

Macca Ward Flint and Troy CB
Jay and Bessone LB

Just a striker needed then - Bodtock or the lad from QPR??

After beating Stoke like we did its only injuries that we have to be worried about. Not much anyone can add to that team after that performance simply breathtaking and now in the vaults of history. I am still buzzing from that one and boy did we perform. On reflection I still believe some of our football this season has been the best I have seen for many seasons and certainly the best under Paolo. Tommy Miller has been a magnificent signing and gives the midfield some steel and is that guy fit or what, never stops running. Not much in this world can top what is going on here at STFC oh the joys of being a Town fan. I wonder if Caddis is envious.

I like Bostock and hope he does come sometime soon, but I don't see it happening by tomorrow, his contract is up end of season, maybe we will make a straight bid for him inj january then, rather than take him on loan again.

Swansea defender Federico Bessone is close to joining League One Swindon.
Manager Paolo Di Canio has predicted three new arrivals before the close of the transfer window on Friday, with additions expected in attack.
But a left back was also a priority for the Italian, with Jay McEveley his only senior option in that position following the departure of Alessandro Cibocchi.
Bessone, 28, is currently in his second spell with the south Wales club, having arrived this time last year after leaving Leeds on a free.
But he has failed to establish himself as part of Swansea's Premier League side and now looks set to leave the Liberty Stadium.
While he could only manage two appearances for Swansea last season, the Argentinean had a successful loan spell at Charlton, starting 13 League One games as they secured the title in style.
Di Canio's side have been tipped for back-to-back promotions after their impressive start to the new campaign and the manager thinks Bessone has the pedigree to improve his side.
The left-back held talks with Di Canio at the County Ground on Wednesday and a deal is understood to be close.

Den great article, loved that, cheered me up immensely from a very average day.
London et al Miller has impressed me with his quiet authority. Bit slow across the ground for the Championship for me but maybe Paolo can sharpen him up!
Mikek just when have we played better football than in some of the games this season? It's the speed at which we knock the passes into the players that has particularly blown me away. If we can keep it up all my predictions may come true!
Back to back to back promotions coming. Watching the birth of a managerial legend. Isn't he already?!

He looked good in a few games last season and was on the fringe of 1st team selection at B'ham but other forwards were in ahead of him.
Oh well - shame about Caddis but it looks like bridges were burned and now it's onwards and upwards without him.

Rooney has a superb work ethic and is a far more intellegent player than he is given credit for. IF he could show just a little more composure in front of goal he could easily be a 25 goal a season player as his off the ball running and ability to find space mark him as a player to watch.
I think he will find a niche as an impact player off the bench who can come on and find out tired legs and on occasions he may be ideal to play as the work-horse up front away from home when we play more of a 4-5-1 formation.
EVERY SEASON at this level a goalscorer emerges who rolls a tide of confidence.....(reme
mber our own Nigel Gleghorn and Jonathon Hunt???) and indeed Darren Ambrose.....if Rooney can get early season goals no reason why he cant improve more.
All I want is a guy who gives his all with a modicum of talent and that is certainly Rooney!

“I thought he (Rooney) was good (on Saturday). He’s got a terrific work ethic and attitude.
“Even when I started with a 4-3-3 system, he’s playing in an unfamiliar role out wide, but he still works really hard, and he crossed a great ball for the goal. I was pleased for him.”
Clark was keen to try out a 4-3-3 system in Blues’ final pre-season outing with Rooney and Peter Lovenkrands out wide and Nikola Zigic down the middle.
Going forward it looked positive, although defensively Blues were often exposed as they lost 3-1 to the Belgian outfit.
Rooney’s first full pre-season outing was a positive to take from the game and the 24-year-old is hoping he can carry on impressing and play a bigger role this season.
“I played a bit last season but not quite as much as I would have liked,” said Rooney, who made just six Championship starts last term.
“Now we’ve got a new gaffer, he’s come in and the lads have all looked sharp so there’s plenty of competition but for me I’ve just got to do my best.
“He’s spoken to most of the lads (individually). I don’t think he can say how often you are going to play until he sees your performance on the day.
