SWINDON TOWN: Close to perfection for Di Canio
PAOLO Di Canio branded his team’s display in their 3-0 defeat of Crawley last night as “close to perfection”.
The Swindon boss watched on as goals from Matt Ritchie, Tommy Miller and Raffa De Vita ensured Town claimed their first victory of the League One campaign in emphatic style at the County Ground .
And he heaped praise on his players for the way they took the game to their guests and completely outplayed them over 90 minutes.
“The way we won, as a team performance, is fantastic. This game should finish seven or eight-nil,” he said.
“There was perhaps one mistake in 93 or 94 minutes. I don’t think this happens even in a Premiership club or team.
“My team today was close to perfection. I don’t want to exaggerate but we worked so hard on the details, in focusing attention every single moment during the tactical session during the week, that I expected this kind of performance.
“I have players with quality, with knowledge, so for me it is nearly normal for me to see my team play like this.
“We have to realise that they were absolutely fantastic.”
After the goalless draw with Hartlepool on Saturday, Di Canio was disappointed with the levels of commitment and desire shown by members of his squad in the north east.
However, he was delighted that normal service was resumed last night as the Town players gave their all and got maximum reward.
That shift in attitude, in Di Canio’s eyes at least, played a major role in the result. “It was a different focus, a different attitude since the beginning because at the end of the day it is obvious that I always want more – but even there it is obvious the game (at Hartlepool) should finish 4-0 or 4-1,” he said.
“Even there, on our not very good day and our opponents’ very good day, it should finish 3-1 or 4-1 but it didn’t happen because of the first hour when we didn’t perform.
“We learned the lessons and today we came back as we are.
“We dominated the game, we destroyed the opponents and this is the way to keep going.”
