SWINDON manager Paolo Di Canio is cooling his activity in the transfer market to make sure his final two signings are the perfect players to fire his side into the top six of League One.

The Italian has already made seven additions to his squad this summer, but is still keen on adding a new striker and a new defender to his ranks, ideally before the start of the new league season.

Di Canio indicated at the end of last week that a new striker could be on his way in the near future, but the Town boss is now keen to take his time to make sure he brings the right players into the club.

“I don’t go frenetic during this period because at the moment I can stay with the team I have got, but it is obvious our intention is not to bring in five or six players, but maybe one or two,” he said.

“I don’t want to make a mistake and I want to be really sure, because the next two must be the extra we are missing at the moment with quality and experience.

“I want to be sure I don’t make a mistake, and until this day I have not this summer, although last year I did make mistakes because I did not know what should happen during the season.

“The quality I have brought in has been good, and I am very happy, so for this I will keep going and the last two might be the last part of the puzzle that allow me to arrive in January in the top six or seven.”

There is still a chance former loanee John Bostock could return to the County Ground next season, but Di Canio is once again prepared to take his time over any potential deal.

“For 40 days, 50 days, two months, people ask about John Bostock, and maybe if people stop thinking about him he will come,” Di Canio said.

“At the moment we are waiting, and I have to really think about it because I want to be really sure what I need there.

“It would be good for me to have him here because he allows us to play a in a different style.

“But I have to be really sure he is the one, even though in terms of quality I would have him.

“He has had a proper pre-season and I am not worried in terms of his fitness level, because the problem now is who is going to join us because, never say never, 99.9 I am never going to bring a player here even with quality that was on holiday for the last two months.

“It is too much, but with Bostock we will see.”

One player who will not be joining Di Canio’s squad is goalkeeper Iain Turner, who has had his trial cut short so he can pursue a deal with Bristol Rovers.

Turner played for the Gas against Bristol City the day after featuring for Town against Salisbury, and Di Canio does not want to harm the Scot’s chances of earning a deal with another club.
