I think it is an area we could potentially become short in very quickly. With only 3 main strikers we have the prospect of Collins being away on international duty and at the end of last season we were wrapping up Benson in cotton wool trying to protect his back/neck injuries.

Don't think we'll get a new striker,all will do the job regardless.

And we still need a backup goalkeeper. Going to the game tonight with dad and bro. Will be first game been to for almost 2 years following my 20 month travels round south central and north America. Looking forward to seeing what's changed

Reading between the lines it sounds as if Pdc has lost out on a few targets????
Guess he is correct in what he is saying after last season he wants to ensure he gets it right.
As for bostock again who know's all this speculation etc,if the player had been keen to come to the Town I feel it would have happened and may still do so.
Now it's wait and see time no doubt all will come clear

This interview seems to indicate that PDC is not completely convinced Bostock is the man he's looking for. So it might not be just about whether Bostock is keen to come, or whether Spurs are happy to let him go.

It's easily done though. Sometimes the comments are far more interesting than the articlles... and sometimes not of course - like this one!

Really need to get the season started - in the absence of footballing news it's all speculation and confusion (I know, same every year).

Would just like to fast forward a couple of weeks and know for certain who's in and who's not.

Paolo is obviously still tracking Bostock to know of his fitness levels etc. It has been a long wait but I hope we get him in the end as he is such a high quality player. Match tonight will be interesting though Wes has nothing to prove, he did all the proving last season with the number of clean sheets he kept and the astounding saves. Never felt so optimistic before the start of a season other than when the '69 team went up to the old L 2.

Can't make the friendly tonight,but it will be interesting to see what team Paolo puts out and how we perform,Palace will be a good test.just heard England are now ranked third in the world!they must be having a laugh!how the Hell do they work that out?I don't think we're in the top ten!!!!!!!!

I'm just wondering how good John Bostock really is. Judgements seem to be based on one sterling performance against a Port Vale side that was floundering in mid-table and lacking motivation as promotion had passed them by. My only glimpse was against Chesterfield at Wembley where he made a cameo appearance - I was mostly underwhelmed. However, I am sure there are others who have far more informed view than me.

Changing the subject, STFC must be unique in as much as 99% of our songs are about our manager Paolo, I can only really recall the occasional Rooney... Rooney or Foderingham... Foderingham about the players. However, Troy Archibald Henville might be a bit difficult to sort one out for. Can anyone think of another club that chants & sings about their manager as much as we do?

Careful Wolf, I stated that a few weeks back and caused a bit of a stir. I agree one great game against Port Vale. Whilst certainly very technically gifted, other than PV he was very lightweight and drifted in and out of games with not much purpose.

Most other clubs seem to have something unsavoury to sing about Paolo, other than that I don't think any manager gets a song other than the 'give us a wave' one?

Re Bostock, I interpret Paolo's comments as still wanting him here, but with a veiled dig at Spurs for not allowing him here for pre-season.

I agree, I don't think Bostock has proved himself yet, one good game against a poor PV side hardly earns a contract.

He's always had great potential (Spurs paid £700K for him from Palace) but never fulfilled it, some say due to his attitude. Spurs fans don't rate him that much. Having said that surely at league 1 level he can make his mark.

No problem him coming here but hope we're not concentrating too much on him at the expense of other signings.

Agree. Poor decision by PDC to play McEveley from the start, possibly also a mistake to have Bostock in the squad. Good job it was an unimportant game.

Gillingham away, very impressive.

Am just wondering if PDC is waiting on the CP game to see if he needs to bring in the likes of Bostock or not. I think tonights game will be a much stiffer test than the previous matches and my guess is he will start with as near a first eleven as we are gonna get. On the other hand, PDC is definitely into rotation so no doubt he will keep us guessing until the last minute, like he did all of last season. More importantly, we need back up for Wes. Hopefully the match will give PDC the insight he needs to buy/not to buy the requisite players. Can’t go tonight but am hoping it will be on the radio.

Not sure it was a mistake in hindsight and looking long-term. McEveley showed himself imo to be much better than Kennedy and Cibocchi. Bostock well in hindsight I would have brought him on too when chasing the game late on to give us 2 AMF on the pitch, although I agree he didn't change the game in his 20 minute cameo.

The principle of playing them could be criticised, and was at the time, but I can see why he did it.

Davidsyrrett we haven't seen a lot of Bostock admittedly, but he showed plenty in the PV game, his touch and vision was excellent. Presumably he had got up to the required level of fitness at that point, Paolo had criticised that beforehand which is why he particularly wanted him here for pre-season. As for bad attitude I can't see that at all, all his tweets refer to his love for his wife and the man above!

Would agree, McEv's a better player than Kennedy or Cibbochi and can also see why Paolo did it - I even defended him at the time for it (i.e. he was putting out a side to win, not giving a run out to the peripheral players who got us there, and this was the right attitude to have - not going their for a jolly up but going to win, even though it didn't work out).

Less said about that game the better, was one of only a few bad blips last season (Aldershot away being probably the worst I can remember).

Would still like to see Bostock here, he strikes me as the kind of player that has just that little bit extra that might be able to change a game.
