Di Canio still keen on Turner
6:00am Saturday 4th August 2012 in Sport By Andy Warren
SWINDON manager Paolo Di Canio is still keen on bringing goalkeeper Iain Turner to the club on a permanent deal, despite the fact he is set to play for Bristol Rovers today.
Rovers boss Mark McGhee was at Salisbury last night to see trialist Turner play 35 minutes for Town in their 3-0 pre-season victory, and will name the keeper in his side to play rivals Bristol
City.
The Scot made a number of good saves as he made a good impression on his debut for the Robins, and Di Canio is still keen to bring him to the County
Ground to challenge number one Wes Foderingham.
“He had one save and one block which was comfortable, and he played the ball the way we want, and it is obvious to me he knows to play from the back,” Di Canio said.
“Tomorrow he will play for Bristol Rovers against Bristol City, and we give him this opportunity to check in a real game where we will have the video.
“He has experience and he is one we would have, but I told him we would like to wait a few more days.
“Tomorrow he has a game with pressure because there would be eight or nine thousand people, and in this moment we will see him under pressure.”
Di Canio revealed earlier in the week he is keen to bring in a new striker before the start of the season, but is no closer to adding to his squad.
“On Thursday I had a good chat with the people who should bring the player in, but yesterday I did not receive a phone call back, so I will have to see why.”

Not sure Paolo could do much about that unless he offered him a deal today.
RE Turner, this seems a risky strategy. We can only hope it doesn't blow up in Paolo's face. No Bostock?
The advantage Rovers have is McGhee is a respected Scottish manager and the fact Turner is a Scot and the Gas offer him a regular start and they have to be fancied to get promoted this season with McGhee in charge. With us he would only start be back-up to Wes to start with, but I would have thought we would be able to offer more money playing at a higher level.
If both clubs want him to sign, it could come down to which of them are prepared to offer a 2 year deal,. If he is coming I hope it is resolved before the Palace game.

Have to say there have been some good articles the past couple of days and personally I prefer his more mature reports that are more in line with those of Gary Rose. Hope we see alot more of Andy's articles in the Adver.

Then again there are other factors to consider and the ambition of the club, manager and players will play a big part if the lad gets two offers and has to make a choice.
weird one for me, just forget he's playing for rovers for a minute lol, if he plays a blinder today and McGhee offers him a chance to be number 1 what would you decide. being 1st choice in L2 or being a bench warmer (again)

Wonder if Dave Kitson may be the mysterious striker PDC may be trying to get as he has left Pompey ? Good target man.anyone heard anything ?

PDC is clearly happy for him to do this, and its a good idea to see him play a full game in front of a decent crowd to see if he can handle the pressure, as he has mainly be no. 2 keeper. Oxford had agreed a fee for Constable and I believe he would have come if it hadn't been for the death threats on Twitter. Personally glad he didn't as I don't see what he would add to our squad. Of course I'm PDC
You would have second guessed that if Iain Turner wasn't fully committed to joining Swindon Town, then given Paolo's recent history he would have told the 'keeper not to bother to return to the County Ground.

West Country Football are looking for an article writer(s) for STFC. The site owners require the writer to be passionate, have a decent knowledge and be able to post multiple articles each week.
The WCF is still in its infancy but it looks good to me. If you are interested please have a look at htpp://www.westcount
ry-football.co.uk and apply via the authors link.
Perhaps London Red will apply ?

Ramsey was lucky with his penalty then pearce let's him take a second 4 minutes later, needless to say it was saved, he didn't look confident with the first one so why let him take the second.

I was really diappointed to have to be in the Olympic stadium - 3 rows from the front and 30ft away from the medal podium. Really gutted we had such crappy seats and only saw 3 GB gold medals won. Not a night to remember -well ok maybe for the rest of my life -awesome!
Agree Wes is a far better keeper but as he plays for us he probably didn't even get considered? Rubbish penalty by Sturridge, it is embarrassing that we nearly always lose on pens, pathetic!!!
