FULL TIME: Salisbury City 0 Swindon Town 3
8:34pm Friday 3rd August 2012 in Sport By Andy Warren
GOALS from new signings Gary Roberts and Troy Archibald-Henville, and veteran striker Paul Benson, have given Town a 3-0 victory over Wiltshire rivals Salisbury this evening.
Paolo Di Canio's side were given a tough workout by their hosts who did not give in, but eventually the League Two champions' class shone through on a difficult pitch.
James Collins had a host of chances but could not convert, but his movement and ability to create chances for himself will stand Town in good stead when the League One season begins.
Town had most of the early possession in the first half with Roberts, Collins and Tommy Miller looking to make in-roads, and Collins found the net with the game's first chance but was flagged offside.
The home side managed one fruitless attack before Town took the lead, with Roberts grabbing his second of pre-season with a neat chip from inside the area.
They doubled their advantage 15 minutes later, and Archibald Henville bareley had to leave the ground to head home a Simon Ferry free kick.
A raft of substitutions saw the game descend into a sloppy affair at times during the second period, but Benson jumped well to guide home Luke Rooney's corner in stoppage time.
HERE ARE THE KEY MOMENTS FROM THE MATCH
Three mins: A good ball in from Matt Ritchie brings Town's first chance, but Collins is caught offside as he puts the ball into the back of the net.
Four mins: Daniel Fitchett flashes a ball across the box for the home side, but there is not a team mate in sight.
Eight mins: Collins attacks a Roberts cross at the near post and forces a good save from former Town keeper Mark Scott.
12 mins GOAL 1-0 Town: Swindon keep the ball for a long spell, and after the ball is worked into the box Gary Roberts eventually chips Mark Scott from only 10 yards out. Great finish.
16 mins: Town should be 2-0 up. Miller works the ball into the box well, and Scott saves Collins' initial shot, and Roberts decides to bounce after picking up the rebound before Williams shoots straight at the keeper.
26 mins : Collins drops deep fires over after a good move between Cibocchi and Roberts. Should have hit the target.
28 mins GOAL 2-0 Town: Ferry stalls over a free kick outside the box, and when he eventulally puts the ball in Archibald-Henville heads in with ease.
30 mins: Archibald-Henville puts the ball into the box and his cross hits the bar, and Collins hits the post with his follow up. Not sure he knew much about it.
32 mins: Cibocchi is booked after going in late on Matthew Clarke, who is forced to go off.
42 mins: Another golden chance for Town, as Miller sweeps the ball wide to Roberts who crosses for Collins to fire out of the ground.
HALF TIME
51 mins: Andy Williams' shot is well saved by Scott, and Collins can't quite latch onto the follow-up.
63 mins: Superb save from Turner as he flies to his right to deny Fitchett's flicked header.
66 mins: Ritchie puts a ball in with the outside of his foot, and Collins goes close again but his flicked effort goes just wide.
85 mins: Collins sees his driven effort well saved by Will Puddy.
88 mins GOAL 3-0 Town: Luke Rooney drifts in a corner which Benson meets to guide the ball home.

Town looked quality tonight some great signings - 1st time I've seen them TAH great in the air and on the ball, not worried about getting forward either. Ian Turner made a couple of saves, distribution was good as well. Gary Roberts for me was the MOM scored a brilliant chip over the keeper having played a 1-2 with Cibo, loads of composure great on the ball and works really hard. Liked Collins up front as well. Second half was a bit of a deadend, looked like PDC had told them to play possession football really was like a training game. Salisbury didn't offer a lot but still had to be beaten, there two centre backs played well and the keeper made a couple of decent saves. Looking forward to the season even more if that were possible
Pleased for our ex-goalie Scott who seems to have given a good account of himself, never know he might do the same as Wes and get a chance in the FL after a spell gaining experience in the Coferance. Good luck to him
