OLYMPIC GAMES DAY FIVE: Pearce's men into Olympic quarter finals
TEAM GB boss Stuart Pearce saulted his side as they booked their place in the quarter finals of the Olympic men's football tournament with a 1-0 win at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium tonight.
Daniel Sturridge scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half time to ensure Great Britain topped the group and send them into a last-eight showdown against South Korea this weekend
Pearce, who lives in Shalbourne, near Marlborough, said: "It was situation where it was effectively them or us, it was a knockout.
“Overall I am delighted, we beat a very good Uruguay side 1-0. We have to check everyone is okay now and prepare them for the next game.
"I thought we played some outstanding football, especially in the first half. Second half we tired and they came into the game. They have some outstanding players in the offensive half of their team so I was pleased we did not concede a goal," he added.
