CRICKET: Goatacre through to national last eight
GOATACRE are two wins away from a return to Lord's after comfortably defeating Hampshire side Paultons in the last 16 of the Yorkshire Tea Village Cup yesterday.
The villagers, competition finalists in 1988 and 1990, strolled to a six-wicket success at home to set up a last-eight tie against Berkshire side Wraysbury - again on their home pitch - next weekend.
The home side dismissed their opponents for 163 in 40 overs and romped to their target after 22 overs.
Jonathan Wilkins took 5-33 as Matthew House, Craig Gibbens, Kevin Iles and Bradley Dawson all calimed victims.
John Robinson was the mainstay of the Paultons innings with 48.
But openers Ed Wilkins (38) and Nick Pocock (23) put on 63 for the first wicket as Goatacre set about the run chase.
Jack Haines added 42, with Dawson (35no) and Chris Chapman (10no) seeing the villagers home.
