SWINDON TOWN: Town announce £2million investment plan
1:00pm Thursday 12th July 2012 in Sport
SWINDON Town’s major investors have announced their intentions to plough a further £2million into the club.
The Robins are also on the lookout for new investment from outside parties as they look to build a set-up capable of consolidating a place in the Championship.
A statement released by the club at lunchtime on Thursday read:
"STFC today announced a meeting of its shareholders on 20th July to change the Club's capital structure to allow new investment of at least £2,000,000 into the Club by existing investors. STFC's Board and shareholders were delighted to finish last season as Champions of League 2 and they believe that this budget will provide Paolo Di Canio with an excellent chance to press on into the Championship.
"With the continued endorsement of the local council, the Board intends to progress its plans to redevelop The County Ground in a program intended to provide expansive new sporting and stadia facilities to the community together with an impressive new gateway to the town.
"The Directors also announce they are actively seeking additional funding from external investors who share in their ambitions for the Club, both on and off the field. In the coming weeks, the Board intends to initiate discussions with a number of interested parties to take the Club to the next level."
Jeremy Wray (Town's interim chairman) said: "The new investment is tremendous news; it will help Paolo and his team in the push for the Championship and also progress the long awaited re-development of The County Ground.
"I look forward to discussions in the coming weeks with prospective new investors who could provide us with further firepower. We have a very exciting season ahead."

Thinking about a double or treble to go with it, thoughts on Rotherham maybe from div 2 or maybe even the gas, Mcghee and Evans are good managers at that level. not sure about the championship, but one of the demoted clubs, Blackburn or Bolton might be good for an eachway promotion bet.
Coral's are still giving 11/1 for us to win league 1 but now we are out to 4th favourites.

I've had the faith for some time as everyone will know. The best part of this is discussions to happen with interested parties.
All the board doing a brilliant job and long may they continue to back our inspirational manager. Bostock to join plus a couple of others up the league we go.
I've a large amount of money on us and Leicester, got us at 14s and also had in quadruple each way with Harrington for US Open and Italy for Euro's. Never liked Leicester since the hail of coins at Filbert Street so we'll probably win the league and they'll let me down.

Is this 2 million to invest just in players or on other areas of the clubs infrastructure?

To be clear the plans have not been approved yet, and further investment from new investers is needed to carry out the redevelopment?
A sceptical colleague also mentioned that £2 million would probably only pay about 50% of Andy Carroll's annual salary, but lets not dwell on that, its consolidation in the Championship we're aiming at.
A good day for Swindon nonetheless, and I think there is much more confidence in any plans of the current board than any of the previous ones!

I have also written to the club with a host of marketing suggestions including the roadshow training sessions around Wiltshire towns.
Another idea I proposed is that the club sponsored or subsidised some coaches or minibuses to do a sweep of outlying towns to bring in supporters. Once off the ground they could shift it to a chargeable service but you have to get people in the habit first. At the Charlton play off semi final way, you could see lines of coaches from all sorts of towns in Kent, all the way to the coast. I remember when I started supporting Swindon all those years ago that the coaches strewn down Shrivenham Road were a 'who's who' of Wiltshire towns.

'Next season we intend to work in conjunction with the football club and hold a number of road shows in outlying areas. We hope the first one will be in Chippenham in September, giving supporters the chance to meet and question various personnel from both the football club and supporters club.'
Not quite training sessions but a step in the right direction.
Oi Den, I believe further investment is dependant on the stadium plans being approved rather than the other way round.

What a great way for fans to show their appreciation for the effort and money the board have invested

Romain don't bet on that! Paolo is after a man of honour like JW. Robinstalk many thanks I'll get onto that. Facial hair and Grim thank you about Corals. Shame i've got an account already and not sure my wife will open an account. She don't like me betting but hey ho!
also bets dont have to be settled ,but they are 10/1 to win the league and 3/1 for promo, next best prices from corals, william hill and skybet are a poxy 8/1 just done another £50 with a free £50.
onwards and upwards.

So my tip is do your free bet on the dodgy one, if that makes sense.
I done £25 e.w @ 3/1
Then £50 to win the league with
My freebie. So the each way bet has a better chance of getting my stake back, even tho I want them to win the league
Hope that's helpful

Could be some milege in attracting fans from around Wiltshire as a whole cause we've traditionally had a lot of people in Swindon who've insisted on "supporting" other clubs (you're Chelsea's of the world and such).
WOW! Things are looking very promising indeed. Hope the gates start rising - they need to if we are to sustain the hoped for place in the Championship. I can't remember ever feeling so optimistic before the start of a new season. What a turnaround we have seen in our clubs fortunes. Wray is a visionary chairman and Paolo, for all his idiosyncrasies, is an incredible manager, long may we keep both. People like this don't come along very often.
Still, great news about investment and ambition.

Breaking news M4 closed both ways due to poor vision . Police say a flock of socks is heading towards poxford
Oh and my take on all this socks crap? YYYYAAAWWWNNN!!
Whilst all signings to date look promising they're hardly mind blowing FFS! We're not talking Messi, Ronaldo and the like are we!
They've all got to gel and PdC has to find the best combination -that took time last season and may well do this season as well. Whose to say that some of the newbies won't yet ultimately go the way of Majoker, Clarke & co.

All Paolo needs to do is repeat lest years results, ie lose a few at the start of the season get the odds up then go on to win the
league, if only it was that easy!
