ANGLING: Gittings leads way at Staverton

CHIPPENHAM’S Colin Gittings took top prize in last week’s Trowbridge match on the Bristol Avon at Staverton.
His 6lb of roach and small chub was enough for the win, with Alan Hillier, from Westbury, runner up with 5 lb 9 oz of roach.
There was a tie for third between Trowbridge matchmen Kevin Grant and Mick Gunning with 3 lb 12 oz of roach.
Other placings: 5. Pete Mills Chippenham 2 lb 11 oz; 6. Dave Baker Trowbridge 2 lb 6 oz.
THE Bristol Avon at Chippenham was in prime form for the Monday Chippenham evening match as Gary Etheridge, from Devizes, won with 25 lb 5 oz of roach.
Kevin Rowles, from Devizes, was next with 19 lb 8 oz of roach, followed by Kevin Williams, of Chippenham, with 12 lb 4 o.
Other placings: 4. Mark Wooldridge Chippenham 11 lb 0 oz; 5. Steve Palmer Chippenham 8 lb 15 oz; 6. Mick Gale Chippenham 8 lb 13 oz.
WEIGHTS were affected by active pike taking hooked fish in the Avon evening match on the Bristol Avon at Portman Road.
Top honours went to in-form Kevin Rowles, of Devizes, with 11 lb 14 oz of bream and roach, followed by Andy Pratten, from Somerford Keynes, with 10 lb 10 oz of roach.
Third was Gary Etheridge, from Devizes, with 8 lb 7 oz of roach.
Other placings: 4. Bob Ryan Melksham 6 lb 15 oz; 5. Darren Fletcher Melksham 6 lb 7 oz; 6. Mike Withy Westbury 2 lb 13 oz.
TUESDAY’S Calne Evening match at Hazeland saw Nigel Smith, of Calne, win with 5 lb 3 oz of perch.
Matt Riches, of Calne, was runner up with 4 lb 6 oz of roach, followed by Nick Lofy, of Calne, with 3 lb 7 oz of perch and dace.
Other placings: 4. Simon Fear Calne 3 lb 4 oz; 5. Martin Dolman Calne 1 lb 14 oz.
BRADFORD’S Vic Abbott took the win at the Wednesday Trowbridge Open match on the Bristol Avon at Staverton with 9 lb 7 oz of bream and perch.
Pete Mills, from Chippenham, was runner up with 5 lb 6 oz of roach, followed by Beckington’s Gerry Lugg with 5 lb 6 oz of perch.
Other placings: 4. Pete Zimiak Trowbridge 5 lb 3 oz; 5. Colin Gittings Chippenham 4 lb 12 oz; 6. Alan Hillier Westbury 2 lb 4 oz.
THE Thursday evening Wilts Angling Open match at Leech Pool was won by Mark Poppleton, from Trowbridge, with 113 lb of carp.
Second was Gary Etheridge, from Devizes, with 90 lb of carp, followed by Ian Willetts, from Bradford, with 88 lb 12 oz of carp.
Other placings: 4. John Atkins Trowbridge 83 lb 10 oz; 5. Tony Gilbert Melksham 82 lb 12 oz; 6. Mark Green Trowbridge 73 lb 12 oz.
ATROCIOUS conditions at the Airsprung Friday evening match on the Bristol Avon at Bradford Golf Course saw Dave Stone of Trowbridge triumph with 8 lb 4 oz of bream and skimmers.
Next was Alan Hillier, from Westbury, with 5 lb of tench and skimmer, followed by Bradford’s Dean Bird with 3 lb 2 oz of roach and perch.
Other placings: 4. Mick Withy Westbury 1 lb 6 oz; 5. Dean Adams Bradford 1 lb 5 oz.
SATURDAY’S Calne match was switched from the river at Hazeland to Dodford Lake where home matchmanMartin Dolman carried off top prize with 51 lb 8 oz of carp.
Pete Mills, from Chippenham, was runner up with 36 lb 7 oz of carp, with Simon Fear, from Calne, third with 29 lb 14 oz of carp.
Other placings: 4. Tim Carr Calne 28 lb 0 oz; 5. Kevin Moore Pewsey 19 lb 0 oz; 6. Nick Lofy Calne 17 lb 4 oz.
ROOD Ashton was in good form for Sunday’s Airsprung match as Tom Ince, from Trowbridge, won with 142 lb of carp.
Trowbridge’s Mark Poppleton was next with 119 lb 5 oz of carp, followed by Kevin Hanson, from Trowbridge, with 113 lb of carp.
Other placings: 4. Pete Neate Holt 96 lb 8 oz; 5. Dave Bancroft Trowbridge 84 lb 8 oz; 6. Jim Butcher Bradford 78 lb 0 oz.
