SWINDON TOWN 9 SELECT XI 1: Di Canio's view
10:00pm Thursday 5th July 2012 in Sport
PAOLO Di Canio was pleased with his side’s 9-1 victory over a select XI at the club’s training base near Lake Garda tonight, but the Swindon Town boss still saw plenty of areas which he feels need improving.
A hat-trick from Luke Rooney, two goals from James Collins and one apiece from Andy Williams, Paul Benson, Raffa De Vita and Miles Storey handed Town a comfortable victory – with Filippo Piasentin grabbing their opponents’ consolation from the penalty spot.
And while the result and much of the performance satisfied Di Canio, he still highlighted a need for his new signings to settle as a team.
“The first half we had five new players involved, all in the area where you have to build with your movement and the way you pass the ball and scoring goals,” he said.
“There was the two centre midfield players, the strikers, the left winger - it wasn’t easy to see the mechanism on and off the ball.
“To be honest, talking about organisation, we know we need to work a lot and let them understand what exactly I want in the way they have to play in the middle to up front.
“But you can see there is more clever players, more quality and once we have let them understand exactly what we want and the way to keep their discipline, I’m sure we’re going to have a very, very good team.
“I’m happy because individually I saw what I expected – quality, intelligence, confidence, cleverness, desire, all aspects that I wanted to see.”
