TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE AWARDS NIGHT: Eagles fly high with treble win

CALNE Eagles dominated the Trowbridge & District League’s awards night at Trowbridge’s Wesley Road club on Tuesday.
The club claimed three major awards, Sophie Wootton signing off her three-year stint as Eagles club secretary by scooping the secretary of the year accolade.
Wootton has been a key member of the club for a number of years, from supporter to secretary.
Also a qualified referee, she won the second division linesman of the year award in 2010 and 2011. Roy Wenham, manager of the beaten Division Two cup finalists claimed the club correspondent award.
Wenham received a trophy and a cheque for £30 for his match reporting efforts over the season, submitting a report on his team’s matches every week.
Eagles also claimed the Dudley Cradock Sportsmanship Cup with a superb average of 90.00 from their 18 league matches, receiving a cheque for £100.
For the third successive season, Steeple Ashton topped Division One’s sportsmanship table, Bradford United Reserves claiming the third division prize as their first team were runners up in the top flight behind Ashton.
Worton & Cheverell and Westwood Social Club were runners up in Divisions Two and Three respectively. Castle Combe (One), Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves (Two) and Polenez Westbury (Three) finished third in their division’s fair play standings. The new season will kick off on September 1 with 34 teams contesting three divisions.
Newly-promoted Boomsbury will be one of the favourites for the Division One title, along with champions Trowbridge Wanderers and Freshford United, runners-up in the last two seasons.
Division Three welcomes five new sides, Lacock FC, Levi’s FC, Leece FC, Trowbridge Rangers and Trowbridge Town Reserves.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting it was confirmed that Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories will continuing their sponsorship of the league for the 2012/13 campaign.
Meanwhile, FC Northbridge have merged with Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves to stop them from going out of existence.

Division One: Boomsbury, Freshford United, Trowbridge Wanderers, Westbury United, Melksham Town Reserves, Warminster Town Reserves, Bradford United, Castle Combe, Semington Magpies, Seend United, North Bradley.
Division Two: The Lamb, Melksham Town A, Westbury Town, Bratton, Worton & Cheverell, Heytesbuy, Calne Eagles, Holt, Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves, Steeple Ashton, Broughton Gifford.
Division Three: Lacock FC, Levi’s FC, Fleece FC, Trowbridge Rangers, Trowbridge Town Reserves, Westbury United A, United FC, Bradford United Reserves, Westwood News (formerly Westwood Social Club), Bratton Reserves, The Stiffs, Polenez.
