Tug of war for Bostock

Tug of war for Bostock Tug of war for Bostock

SWINDON boss Paolo Di Canio is still confident of bringing former loanee Jay McEveley back to the County Ground, but admitted there are hurdles in the way of any potential deal for midfielder John Bostock.

The pair made their Swindon debuts in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final defeat to Chesterfield in March having joined the club on temporary deals, and both went on to play a part in Town’s League Two title victory.

Left back McEveley is available for free as he is at the end of his contract with Barnsley, while Swindon are pursuing another loan move for Tottenham midfielder Bostock, who still has another year to run on his deal at White Hart Lane.

Di Canio is continuing to work on a deal for McEveley, but believes the Premier League club’s desire for Bostock to spend pre-season with them could scupper any potential return.

“There are two different situations,” Di Canio said.

“With McEveley, we’re still in contact and I want to speak to him for different reasons. I want to keep him, he’s free, and there should be no problem with him.

“With Bostock the problem is only the pre-season because normally the top clubs want to keep the players for the pre-season and maybe give them a loan after the pre-season.”

Di Canio values pre-season preparation highly, and if a deal can be done he is keen for Bostock to prepare for the new campaign with the rest of his squad.

“To be honest, I don’t like this because now everybody knows the way we train and everybody knows for me it’s crucial - the first period of the season, where for 25 days you build not only the condition and the fitness but the way you play.

“Especially if you want to try to do something different with the player, to teach him how to prepare, to change maybe his position.

“If they don’t accept to give me the player before pre-season I find it difficult.

“Maybe in the future we can discuss about this but in my opinion I would have him before. In this moment we are talking with them and we’ll see what’s going on. I would like to have Bostock, I like him.”

Come on Spurs. You have done us over before - promising things and failing to deliver. No reason for you to hang on to Bostock for the pre-season. Paolo will train him much better than you have.

They will probably post an article on the budget and balancing act of shifting 5 on to get in the 8 he wants tomorrow which was also on player last week

We know jay is on a free, so should be able to sign.

Laz I agree. These two would be brilliant signings. I think we are all in agreement of that? Also I'm pretty sure Bostock wants to come here. Like everyone he wants a bit of love and knows Paolo rates him and sees him as a second striker.

Hope Paolo can work his magic and then sign him on a permanent deal in January or end of season.

Back to back promotions coming. Watching the birth of a managerial legend.

Of course clubs want all their players available for pre-season. They may suddenly spring forward in their develpment, like Walker and Livermore did for spurs last year. Both of whom would have been on the available for loan after pre-season list.
I can understand Paolo wanting Bostock now but I reckon we'll still get him come August.

I don't see why Bostock doing a Spurs pre season should be a show stopper, it's not like he would have his feet up and presumably Spurs know what they are doing.

It's about integration - PdC has already said a lot more technical work will go on this pre-season on top of the fitness stuff
.
He wants Bostock to be involved so he knows what his role will be and how to play with us rather than coming and learning during the season
.
Especially as he wants to convert him into a second striker
.
We saw against PV he has potential to do that - but still has a lot to learn as PdC was bellowing orders at him as to where to position himself or what runs to make - which will be better in training and pre-season games than the opener
.
Why it might be a show stopper is he might line up someone else in the meantime
.
Parkin would be good at this level and being Cardiff based is fairly "local"

Tosh, not saying that at all. If there is no new news then fine, they cant print it.

And heaven forbid that any paper should feel the need to print a "story" to sell copy. I mean, that thing just does not happen.

It's a personal thing, but I just don't like buying papers full of "filler stories" or rejuvinated stories.

I made a contious decision years ago not to buy news papers... unless there was an article that particulary caught my eye.... national or local, as, just by their shear nature, they can not keep up with breaking news from radio or tv, and are therefore full of stories the following day that were reported by other media means 24 hours earlier.

Having said that. I have supported the Adver for many years - just not now in recent times - by spending £100's of pounds a month advervising my business.

All their "news" so far is coming from BBC Wiltshire Interviews

Do the adver not have access to anyone at the club to do their own?

They could easily look to speak to JW, PdC, the Fitness Coach or some of the players

At least then their fillers would actually be new

Agree with that, there are plenty of topics the adver can focus on without feeding off the BBC.
1. Season ticket sales, have we reached 5500
2. Who are the our main rivals for div 1, when does the fixture list come out and who do we want first game.
3 Ground development has gone quiet again, when are we going to see the plans.
4 Arrivals and departure, squad numbers, will Wes take No 1 or stick with 33
5 Will Stratton bank be open next season
6 What do the fans think about us playing in red shirts and white shorts and who likes the second strip of light blue. (new red strip not on sale until July)
7 Is Sam M on the plane to Italy like gary was last year. 18 days to go and we don't know who will be going yet.
8 What's happening on the Tahue allegation with the FA
9 how is it going with the new pitch with all this rain it should be knee high by now.
10 When will Jeremy be announced as the chairman and who else is joining the board.

A few ideas there for Sam to think about that might just generate a bit of interest or maybe not. Has he got ideas of his own, who knows.

I can't understand the constant knocking of the adver they are simply putting on their website what's in the days adver they could easily not have a FREE website and make many fans buy the adver. I'm not knocking the adver as this is a vital source of info on our beloved club. I do think suggesting things to write about is legitimate though as if someone is interested and others agree then surely it makes sense to try and write about it.

On that I do think you may see an article on the ground extension maybe starting in a years time, coming soon.

Personally I'd like to see in depth interviews with Messrs Habib, Black and any other major shareholder. Exactly what is your percentage ownership? Is this matched with % funds loaned? Why did you invest? What are you're plans for your investment? How much are you prepared to invest? How long do you see your investment horizon? How do you see your out in realising investment? What are you un/happy about? What would like to improve? Etc etc etc. Please add as you see fit?!

Don't blame Spurs for wanting to hold on to one of their youngsters, blame Bayern Munich's inability to beat Chelsea. If Chelsea had lost, Tottenham would have been in next season's Champions League. Now Spurs are in the Euro Disney Cup instead, they will play most of their young talent in that - simples. If JB does return, it will be more likely to be next January.

Agree but Spurs not even involving Bostock in their own pre-season may send out a very negative message to him about his Spurs future. Would be good for him to arrive as soon as poss though obviously for the the reasons you state.

Parkin would be a good signing, good scoring record. A few comments made by others about his mobility, but that's a bit like criticising Ronan Murray for not winning every header. To be fair it's unlikely that big target men at this level will be sprinters as well.

I maybe wrong but I thought they have to register 25 players prior to the start of season, if that's the case Bostock is either included or not and if not no sense in keeping him at spurs pre-season.

Bostock would learn more under Paolo than sitting in the reserves or going on loan to another club and its to spurs benefit to improve him as a player to let him be with us for the season. But normal spurs thing they promise alot to smaller clubs and particulalry us and never deliver just as they always do on the pitch alot of early promise and die a death. I agree. It's not as if he doesn't know Bostock or what he can do. And it's not as if we didn't bring in players after the pre-season training either. How many did we use last season? 39?

It's more a question of whether a deal can be done, because if Spurs plan to keep him (surely they won't) then Paolo is right to look elsewhere.

Redknapp is a shrewd old b*gger. Maybe he wants to take a look at Bostock to see if his spell with us has sharpened him up. It will also give him the chance to see how well he's looked after himself in the close season. Arry's first duty has to be to look after his club's interests. Seems to me that's exactly what he's doing.

Smirg and I were discussing this last week whether or not it had merits in Bostock being at Spurs for Pre-Season
.
I personally don't think it would be a negative sign by them - as if he is to play for us (or another side) for the whole season then surely it is best he trains with that side as soon as posible to "fit"
.
Why bother having him train for 3 weeks and then say see you in May?
.
I said then I think he will be with us in Italy and signed up in Jan so Spurs can get a buy-back / sell-on included
.
PS - Bostock wouldn't need to be registered as under 21
.
That makes a mockery of the whole 25 man squad as clubs only have to name 25 players over 21 - so Arsenal can exclude Ramsey, Ox, Walcott and Wilshire yet still play them - so could have a 29 man squad!

Wilesy says...
12:59pm Tue 12 Jun 12

One point Paolo made a while back was wanting to develop a plan B, plan C, plan D etc now he has players capable of doing so. Bostock clearly would be central to those plans with the type of player he is.

So on reflection it would definitely be useful to have Bostock and as many of the '8 new arrivals' here before the Italy trip, think Paolo said he hoped for 4 or 5.

I'm interested where Bostock will play, if 2nd striker I can see Benno missing out (assuming we are going to sign a new striker), and if AM then Ferry could miss out. Both would be big calls IMO.

RamsburyRed says...

I don't see how we could have any complaint if Spurs want him back for pre-season - he is their player! And whilst it would be preferable for us to have him pre-season, if he is going to come in on loan, it's not as if he's an unknown quantity.
*
However, a perceptive poster above has mentioned the Europa League and the fact that Spurs are now in it. If they see him having a bright future with them, some game time in the EL would be ideal from their point of view.

Makes you wonder if he is part of arrys plans now niko kranjcar has left.
I was not sure if you believed me on this story last week, also I can't believe the podcast story has just came to light.
I'm also sure if we do get him (which I doubt) paolo will play him upfront, which I Believe will be the only plus factor for him wanting to come here, after all footballers want to score goals, so I'm sure he will revell in his role as I'm sure arry has never played him as a striker.
As I missed the vale game I only have seen him play at Bradford, so is he really that good?. (hope so).
As said before paolo had a sparkle in his eye when andy Williams name was mentioned to him, I read this is a done deal on July 1st, unless Something really screws the deal up.
I reckon the Williams news will be the story on wednesday as this was not mentioned today.

There we go, cats out of the bag, I've called it!

Back t back promotions coming. Watching the birth of a managerial legend.

SeE Crewe are lining up Bodin as Powell's replacement!
.
Davis say a fee would be involved - good job they just got £3m!
.
Would personally look for a buy back / sell on over a "massive" fee - £25k with 25% sell on would be better than £75-100k now
.
Also looking to land Kennedy - who has not actually signed for Scunny

I would ask for Shaun Miller as a swap for Bodin, Crewe's top goal scorer the season before last who is not in there plans for next season. And PDC called him 'very dangerous' before we played them 1st game of the season. Unlikely I know but just a thought

BREAKING NEWS: Town are being linked with an Italian prolific striker in the Hellenic league who has scored 64 goals in just 3 games, Dontario Wanatrainsi. Apparently his club fans reckon he is very lazy even though he is related to Leon Clarke, Tehoue, and Kerrouche. Could he be the new Charlie Austin we are looking for I wonder.

Technically a very good player at L2, but extremely lightweight. Did OK but didn't really see anything that was head and shoulders above what we have so no too fussed either way really.

I would be surprised if the youth set up at Swindon, that pb salary, jn, youth wages, capital depreciation on facilities, running costs etc come to less than £150k each year conservative estimate. If we get back £15k for Bodin we definitely need a big big sell in clause for him!

As a Swindon Town Expat supporter, I love the Adver´s coverage. They are usually ahead of the official site who dont even update the team profiles.
What is annoying is fans quoting a quote that quoted a quote and you have to scroll down for ever to find they are just making social arrangements to meet up in the pub! What ever happened to email?”
Some just opine 'I agree' or 'I disagree'!!!

I to am a expat--but the adver at times give some good updates--but also some old hat stuff--other clubs are signing players--we may hear soon who these three players that PDC has offered contracts to--if you look at this site--check the club logo and see what team it has--not last years--PDC will build a good side--for this league 1
