Tug of war for Bostock

Tug of war for Bostock
SWINDON boss Paolo Di Canio is still confident of bringing former loanee Jay McEveley back to the County Ground, but admitted there are hurdles in the way of any potential deal for midfielder John Bostock.
The pair made their Swindon debuts in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final defeat to Chesterfield in March having joined the club on temporary deals, and both went on to play a part in Town’s League Two title victory.
Left back McEveley is available for free as he is at the end of his contract with Barnsley, while Swindon are pursuing another loan move for Tottenham midfielder Bostock, who still has another year to run on his deal at White Hart Lane.
Di Canio is continuing to work on a deal for McEveley, but believes the Premier League club’s desire for Bostock to spend pre-season with them could scupper any potential return.
“There are two different situations,” Di Canio said.
“With McEveley, we’re still in contact and I want to speak to him for different reasons. I want to keep him, he’s free, and there should be no problem with him.
“With Bostock the problem is only the pre-season because normally the top clubs want to keep the players for the pre-season and maybe give them a loan after the pre-season.”
Di Canio values pre-season preparation highly, and if a deal can be done he is keen for Bostock to prepare for the new campaign with the rest of his squad.
“To be honest, I don’t like this because now everybody knows the way we train and everybody knows for me it’s crucial - the first period of the season, where for 25 days you build not only the condition and the fitness but the way you play.
“Especially if you want to try to do something different with the player, to teach him how to prepare, to change maybe his position.
“If they don’t accept to give me the player before pre-season I find it difficult.
“Maybe in the future we can discuss about this but in my opinion I would have him before. In this moment we are talking with them and we’ll see what’s going on. I would like to have Bostock, I like him.”

We know jay is on a free, so should be able to sign.
We know John has a year left at Spurs and there are issues to be sorted.
Just tell us that Jay and John, or anybody else, has signed.

He wants Bostock to be involved so he knows what his role will be and how to play with us rather than coming and learning during the season
.
Especially as he wants to convert him into a second striker
.
We saw against PV he has potential to do that - but still has a lot to learn as PdC was bellowing orders at him as to where to position himself or what runs to make - which will be better in training and pre-season games than the opener
.
Why it might be a show stopper is he might line up someone else in the meantime
.
Parkin would be good at this level and being Cardiff based is fairly "local"

And heaven forbid that any paper should feel the need to print a "story" to sell copy. I mean, that thing just does not happen.
It's a personal thing, but I just don't like buying papers full of "filler stories" or rejuvinated stories.
I made a contious decision years ago not to buy news papers... unless there was an article that particulary caught my eye.... national or local, as, just by their shear nature, they can not keep up with breaking news from radio or tv, and are therefore full of stories the following day that were reported by other media means 24 hours earlier.
Having said that. I have supported the Adver for many years - just not now in recent times - by spending £100's of pounds a month advervising my business.

All their "news" so far is coming from BBC Wiltshire Interviews
.
Do the adver not have access to anyone at the club to do their own?
.
They could easily look to speak to JW, PdC, the Fitness Coach or some of the players
.
At least then their fillers would actually be new

1. Season ticket sales, have we reached 5500
2. Who are the our main rivals for div 1, when does the fixture list come out and who do we want first game.
3 Ground development has gone quiet again, when are we going to see the plans.
4 Arrivals and departure, squad numbers, will Wes take No 1 or stick with 33
5 Will Stratton bank be open next season
6 What do the fans think about us playing in red shirts and white shorts and who likes the second strip of light blue. (new red strip not on sale until July)
7 Is Sam M on the plane to Italy like gary was last year. 18 days to go and we don't know who will be going yet.
8 What's happening on the Tahue allegation with the FA
9 how is it going with the new pitch with all this rain it should be knee high by now.
10 When will Jeremy be announced as the chairman and who else is joining the board.
A few ideas there for Sam to think about that might just generate a bit of interest or maybe not. Has he got ideas of his own, who knows.

Personally I'd like to see in depth interviews with Messrs Habib, Black and any other major shareholder. Exactly what is your percentage ownership? Is this matched with % funds loaned? Why did you invest? What are you're plans for your investment? How much are you prepared to invest? How long do you see your investment horizon? How do you see your out in realising investment? What are you un/happy about? What would like to improve? Etc etc etc. Please add as you see fit?!

Parkin would be a good signing, good scoring record. A few comments made by others about his mobility, but that's a bit like criticising Ronan Murray for not winning every header. To be fair it's unlikely that big target men at this level will be sprinters as well.

Don't blame Spurs for wanting to hold on to one of their youngsters, blame Bayern Munich's inability to beat Chelsea. If Chelsea had lost, Tottenham would have been in next season's Champions League. Now Spurs are in the Euro Disney Cup instead, they will play most of their young talent in that - simples. If JB does return, it will be more likely to be next January.

I don't see why Bostock doing a Spurs pre season should be a show stopper, it's not like he would have his feet up and presumably Spurs know what they are doing.
In other breaking news, Lee Holmes signs for Preston.....
It's more a question of whether a deal can be done, because if Spurs plan to keep him (surely they won't) then Paolo is right to look elsewhere.
Seems like Spurs just being a bit pedantic. Surely they could get an indication either way.

Seems to me that's exactly what he's doing.

I personally don't think it would be a negative sign by them - as if he is to play for us (or another side) for the whole season then surely it is best he trains with that side as soon as posible to "fit"
.
Why bother having him train for 3 weeks and then say see you in May?
.
I said then I think he will be with us in Italy and signed up in Jan so Spurs can get a buy-back / sell-on included
.
PS - Bostock wouldn't need to be registered as under 21
.
That makes a mockery of the whole 25 man squad as clubs only have to name 25 players over 21 - so Arsenal can exclude Ramsey, Ox, Walcott and Wilshire yet still play them - so could have a 29 man squad!

So on reflection it would definitely be useful to have Bostock and as many of the '8 new arrivals' here before the Italy trip, think Paolo said he hoped for 4 or 5.
I'm interested where Bostock will play, if 2nd striker I can see Benno missing out (assuming we are going to sign a new striker), and if AM then Ferry could miss out. Both would be big calls IMO.

Makes you wonder if he is part of arrys plans now niko kranjcar has left.
I was not sure if you believed me on this story last week, also I can't believe the podcast story has just came to light.
I'm also sure if we do get him (which I doubt) paolo will play him upfront, which I Believe will be the only plus factor for him wanting to come here, after all footballers want to score goals, so I'm sure he will revell in his role as I'm sure arry has never played him as a striker.
As I missed the vale game I only have seen him play at Bradford, so is he really that good?. (hope so).
As said before paolo had a sparkle in his eye when andy Williams name was mentioned to him, I read this is a done deal on July 1st, unless Something really screws the deal up.
I reckon the Williams news will be the story on wednesday as this was not mentioned today.

Caddis Flint Macca McEveley
Ferry Risser/Smith
Ritchie Bostock Rooney
Benson
.
Ferry to play the Schweinsteiger playmaker role
.
Risser/Smith/New to play the Khedira break up play role
.
Bostock to play the Ozil creator role
.
Or if you want to be English the current England "442"
.
With Ferry as Gerrard

Risser/Smith/New as Parker
.
Bostock as Young/Rooney
.
As for PV game he was MOTM - had great upper body strength, great movement, good passing, full of running
.
However - as I said above still has a lot to learn if playing more "up top" - but certainly has the potential to do it and be a real creator and chip in with 10-15 goals
