ANDY Williams has visited Swindon this week ahead of a move to the County Ground, the Advertiser understands.

The striker, whose contract with Yeovil expires at the end of next month, has been linked with a switch to Wiltshire for several weeks and the Adver has learnt that Williams met with the club’s hierarchy in the last few days.

The 25-year-old released a statement on Yeovil’s official website on Wednesday afternoon, explaining his reasons for turning down what was reported to be a club record contract offer from the Glovers.

He said: “It wasn’t an easy decision to leave Yeovil and the opportunity to be at a club closer to my family certainly played a part in the decision making process.

“I felt I needed a fresh challenge when I came to Yeovil, and I think that the time is right to kick on again in the same way now with a new club, to test myself even further.”

Williams' current contract runs out at the end of June, at which point he would become a free agent.
