SPEEDWAY: Robins plan Richardson tribute

SWINDON Speedway will pay their own tribute to former Robins favourite Lee Richardson at Thursday’s Elite League meeting with Peterborough at the Abbey.

Richardson, who died after crashing in a Polish League meeting last week, was a classy performer throughout his career and won the Elite League Pairs title alongside Leigh Adams during his Swindon career.

Now fans can join club bosses and riders in paying their own tribute to ‘Rico’ who was Great Britain’s top scorer in World Cup racing.

Robins co-owner Gary Patchett said: “There will be an opportunity for supporters to donate to the Lee Richardson Fund which has been established to support Lee’s young family in years to come.

“It’s going to be an emotional night in many ways and we have dedicated the front cover of the match programme to Lee’s memory.

“We also have a centregreen banner with the #RICO hash tag which has been trending on twitter since his passing.”

But Patchett also admits the Swindon riders will need to focus on winning the meeting after a tough weekend at Lakeside and Eastbourne.

He said: “Going to Lakeside last Friday was a harrowing experience as they are Lee’s club. The Lakeside management paid a superb tribute and my congratulations to them.

“Now we need our riders to get their racing heads on and get back to winning ways.”
