CYCLING: Isle thrill for Kibble
2:00pm Friday 11th May 2012 in Sport
TEENAGER Pete Kibble hopes he’s on the road to success at July’s National Youth Circuit Race Championships after finishing runner-up at the three-day Isle of Man International Youth Tour.
The 14-year-old Royal Wootton Bassett Academy student, who lives in New Zealand near Lyneham, was second behind favourite Dan Tullet in boys’ U14 category.
The tour was the opening race of the National Youth Circuit Series and Welsh mountain bike champion Kibble, who races for Team Cycology Bikes, Chippenham, reckoned it was the best result of his career so far.
“You usually end up racing against the same people but this was a national race so there were a lot of different people – it was really tough,” he said.
“Dan Tullet is the best by miles so it’s going to be nice to try and beat him when I do more (national series) races like the North West Tour (in Lancashire in June).
“The National Championships is the big one though and I’d love to win there. I’m riding well and it’s just about making little touches to get better.”
Kibble led the standings after the first day’s time trial, holding on to second after the day two and three race stages.
