VIC MORGAN COLUMN: Goodbye to an extraordinary season

TIME to say farewell to an extraordinary season. Just one more journey to travel and it’ll all be over till August.

This time a year ago, Swindon fans made their way to Tranmere with an uncertain future.

We didn't know who the manager might be and once again we were dropping into football's basement.

A year on and it's time to look forward to what we hope are brighter times.

We've got a manager and a board who seem committed to driving the club forward on and off the pitch and we've got supporters who wear smiles on their faces rather than the frowns of last May.

You can be sure of nothing in football and who knows what may happen in the next 12 months.

For the moment though its good times and that's good enough for me.

Those good times end for another campaign at Bradford. Some of us travel to away games on the coaches organised by unsung heroes.

The kind of people who love their club and work hard to make sure that fans don't miss out on seeing the Town.

I was thinking the other day about the incredible loyalty of a few of the Swindon faithful.

They travel everywhere the team goes. Whatever the game. Whatever the division. They're always there.

Sometimes just one bus makes its way along the motorway to somewhere wet and cold on a Tuesday night.

But the thing is those people wouldn't miss it for the world.

That's the thing about supporting YOUR team.

It doesn't matter how good or bad they are, they're YOUR team.

That's what makes this season so special.

Thousands of motorway miles rewarded with the joy we all felt last Saturday.

To people like Marc and Sally, thanks for organising those coaches, and for those who travel on them thanks for making our club what it is.

It's been an honour writing for the Swindon Advertiser, have a great summer.

Hear, hear! And you have a good summer yourself, Vic. Not many Town fans put in the miles that you do.

Yes, well done Vic, you have a 250 mile round trip for a home game!

Great season, let's remember this feeling and keep our feet on the ground as a lot can change in 12 months. We have no right to go up again next season, so we need to be patient and remain supportive.

In the meantime let's continue to celebrate this weekend!
