ALAN McCormack believes the script has already been written for Swindon to secure the League Two title at the County Ground this afternoon.

Victory over Port Vale will see Town collect the trophy at the final whistle in front of a near-capacity home crowd, and McCormack believes this day has been coming for a long time, but insists they still needed to work hard to get the win they need.

“It is written for us to do that,” he said. “We could have had it wrapped up before this with a couple of draws, but it was not to be and we have to go out and win the game here at the County Ground to take the title.

“There is going to be a full house here and that is something I think the players deserve and so do the fans because they have been brilliant.

“But we have to be at our best, and we have to put on a show, whether it is 1-0, 4-0 or 5-0.”

With the chance to win the title firmly in Town’s hands the Irishman is convinced they will get the job done, but insisted he and his teammates are determined not to get distracted by the thought of lifting the trophy.

“It is up to us to not throw it away, but we have too many good players and staff who are pushing us to do that,” he said.

“We do our best every week, but we just have to go out there and play.

“The chances of us throwing away the title are slim, but we still have to go out there because there are six points to play for.

“We spoke throughout the season as the games ticked down and we moved towards the top that we did not want to have to go away to Bradford still looking for points.

“There is a bit of pressure but we have handled a lot more pressure than this during the season.”
