EVENTING star Laura Collett can’t wait to get her teeth into a season that holds Olympic promise for her.

Collett, 22, who is based at the Membury Estate near Marlborough, rose to prominence with her ride Rayef last year after an eighth-placed finish on her Badminton debut.

The pair also took third place at the Barbury trials, Collett going on to make her first appearance for her country at the European Championships in August.

She is now targeting a spot in the Great Britain squad for this summer’s Olympics and after soaking in a whirlwind 2011 over the winter break, the London 2012 hopeful is raring to go.

“It’s been a really good break, I had a nice holiday and so did the horses,’’ said the Great Britain star.

“They’ve all come back in fresh and well.

“With the weather being really mild, it’s been helpful in keeping them fresh so they’re all ready to crack on with the season.

“I’m really excited about having a few horses at Badminton (she is also expected to feature on Noble Bestman) and with Rayef going so well there last year, hopefully, if anything, we can improve on that and see where the rest of the season goes from there.

“With the Olympics around the corner as well, everyone’s really keen to get going and see what comes out of it.”

Collett has been based at the impressive Membury Estate, which was built by logistics entrepreneur Philip Walker in 2009 and says that the state-of-the-art facilities have had a large bearing in her success so far.

“I’m really lucky that Phllip Walker has built this yard – it just makes life so much easier,” she said.

“With a massive indoor school, there’s never a day where you can’t work the horses. With all the snow we had last winter, a lot of people felt that they were two or three weeks behind on fitness work but we don’t miss anything.”
