THE hugely-awaited early season showdown between two of the division's top dogs Boomsbury and North Bradley was decided by two penalties with both teams having to settle for a point each from the 1-1 draw.

The match at Southwick Road attracted a crowd of more than 100 people but it never really lived up to it's pre-match hype as both clubs were missing key players.

Come the final whistle it was Boomsbury's manager Ben Howe who was probably happier than his opposite number Chris Carr as a penalty from Reuben Spong 10 minutes from time cancelled out Jack Heard's first-half spot-kick.

FC Northbridge 3 Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves 3

TROWBRIDGE Wanderers Reserves and their hosts at FC Northbridge both believed they dropped valuable points from their meeting at Whaddon Lane on Tuesday evening after it finished all square.

Northbridge opened the scoring when Will Bayley returned to haunt his former club early on.

Bayley’s opener in the 20th minute was Northbridge’s first shot on goal, while Wanderers were looking odds-on to level the scoreline with consistant bombardment of the Northbridge goal.

The home team held firm and were soon two goals to the good on 30 minutes, when Bayley set up Liam Brown who squeezed a shot in off the post leaving Wanderers scratching their heads.

Wanderers went close on numerous occasions with Mike Johnson hitting the post and Jamie Hancock finding the side netting, James Ricaud and Tom Pang failed to find the net with chances, as they peppered the Northbridge goal.

With almost the final action of the first half, Wanderers got the goal their efforts deserved when James Ricaud made a charge and latched onto a Pang through-ball and fired home to pull a goal back to set up an pulsating second half.

Wanderers looked comfortable after the break and had Northbridge on the back foot, but just when it was looking as if they would get back on level terms.

Northbrdge struck a vital third on the hour, when poor marking from a set piece saw the ball fall to Tom A’Court who tucked it past the advancing Liam Newble.

Wanderers kept pushing and were not rewarded handsomely enough, again they pressured the Northbridge back line who tried in vain to catch their guests on the back foot with some counter attacking football.

But it was Wanderers who got the next goal when Jamie Hancock, on his full debut for the side, buried his shot under Mark Binns and into the Northbridge goal.

Pang had a great opportunity when he stayed on his feet to shoot straight at the keeper.

However Northbridge caught the Trowbridge backline napping and Bayley squared a cross for Liam Brown to simply nod in, only for him to head agonisingly over the bar when it seemed easier to score. In the final minute Brown’s miss was punished by Wanderers when Jamie Moth’s corner was returned back to him and he whipped in a cross that saw Nigel Penelhum rise above the defence and nod the ball home.

Heytesbury 0 Warminster Town Reserves 2

EIGHT days after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Heytesbury, Warminster Town Reserves were back in action against their near neighbours as a 2-0 victory saw them avenge that loss which denied their hosts a third straight win to the start of the new campaign.

Warminster were always in charge of the contest but only had a 20th minute goal from Chikiah Scassie goal to show for the first half dominance.

Warminster were never really threatened by their hosts but they couldn’t rely on the odd goal to give them victory and so they were mighty relieved when Lewis Graham slotted home a second to seal their first points of the season.
