Boomsbury FC 7 The Lamb 0

Ben Howe’s Boomsbury side closed the gap on Third division leaders Holt to just three points thanks to their two victories on Saturday afternoon. In their first match they defeated The Lamb 7-0 and followed that up with a win over bottom-of-the-table The Stiffs.

Lamb started their game away at Boomsbury with only nine players but held their hosts at bay for 30 minutes before Ali Bradley finally broke the deadlock. Ollie Howe gave his team a 2-0 half time lead.

Boomsbury hit five more in the second half; John Baker scoring the first when he made in 3-0 from the penalty spot. Scott Askew scored the fourth and two goals from Pete Spong, back in the side after suspension, took it to 6-0 before Booker Woodford finished things off.

Boomsbury FC 7 The Stiffs 0

In their second outing of the afternoon, Boomsbury notched up another 7-0 success as they cruised to victory against The Stiffs. Unlike their game against the Lamb when they took a while to get going, they hit the ground running and were five goals to the good by half time.

Carl Davies scored the opener, Jamie Young made it 2-0 and Scott Askew added number three. A second of the game from Young and John Baker’s effort just prior to the interval made up the five.

Second half goals from Steve Jackson and Scott Askew completed what was a walk in the Spring sunshine for Ben Howe’s champions elect, who have kept five clean sheets on the spin and eight in their 11 league outings to date.

Bratton Reserves 1 United FC 5

United FC defeated Bratton Reserves 5-1 in what was an entertaining match at Wellhead Lane, Westbury.

United took the lead via a brilliant 25-yard strike from Mariusz Jackiewicz, they then missed a penalty before Agim Iljazi made it 2-0.

Bratton got themselves back in the game at the start of the second half when the United keeper helped Steve Gillis’ shot over the line.

United regained their two-goal advantage thanks to a second of the game from Iljazi and they made certain of the points when Jackiewicz netted his second and it was left to Pawel Konchaniec to finish things off with an excellent finish that completed United’s five-star performance.

FC Calne 1 Westbury Town 1

Westbury Town extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches with a 1-1 draw away at FC Calne, for whom it was their first match in over a month. Scott Walford gave Westbury the lead, which was wiped out by Mike Bell, with both goals coming in a crazy first half that saw Bell and his team mate George Bettles allegedly come to blows before the pair were separated by Westbury players.

Trowbridge Town Reserves 1 Bradford United Reserves 3

In the first of the day’s early kick-offs, Bradford United Reserves beat Trowbridge Town Reserves 3-1 at a sun drenched Woodmarsh, which saw them avenge their 6-1 defeat from last November.

Having not played for several weeks, Trowbridge looked rusty from the off, with Bradford winning the loose balls and looking dangerous at times, however Trowbridge slowly fought their way into the game, and had several chances to take the lead.

The deadlock was broken after 28 minutes, when home keeper Sam Norris, fumbled Dean Mathieson’s speculative shot and the ball crossed the line to make it 1-0 to Bradford.

Despite chances at both ends the teams went in at half time with no change to the score line.

The second half saw Trowbridge take command, with six clear chances to level things, all of which went begging, in the first fifteen minutes.

Despite their overwhelming procession and wealth of opportunitiese, it was not Town who scored next but Bradford, when Aaron Burbidge lofted a free-kick over Norris's head to make it 2-0.

Again Trowbridge responded with some of the best football in the game, but the finishing in front of goal, along with a solid performance from the Bradford keeper kept them at bay. On 70 minutes, the unfortunate Town keeper Norris was again caught off his line and Bradford’s Burbidge grabbed his second of the game and his team's third.

Town continued to fight, and chances from Kevin Blissett, Mitchell Spackman and Kieran McCaldon produced excellent saves from Bradford keeper Kieren Powell, whilst an Aaron McCaldon free kick shaved the bar. Trowbridge got their consolation on 82 minutes when Jake Sainsbury put the ball in the back of the net.
