SWINDON Wildcats have signed one of the biggest talents in European ice hockey - Toivo Suursoo.

The Estonian winger has played in some of the top leagues across Europe and spent last season with Swedish outfit IK Oskarshamn.

Cats head coach Ryan Aldridge described Suursoo as "the real deal" and believes the capture will be the envy of clubs across the country.

Suursoo, who hails from Tallinn, was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 11th round, 283rd overall, of the 1994 NHL Entry draft.

The 6ft 34 year-old winger's cv includes such showcase clubs as the Soviet Wings in the IHL, Adirondack and Cincinnati in the AHL as well as stints in the top leagues in Sweden, Denmark, Belarus and Latvia in his career, including recent championship medals from seasons 2005 and 2008 in Denmark.

Aldridge added: "Toivo is a top player, a guy that our fans will love to watch play every night.

"There are not too many guys in our league - if any - that have enjoyed a career like his.

"He is a great skater, very strong on the puck and has a great shot.

"You can tell by the teams and leagues he has played in and the players he has played among that this guy is all about talent.

"He will make the players around him better, our power play better and most of all the whole team environment better.

"He comes with pure pedigree and I am over the moon about having him on board with us for the next two years."
