Bassett romped to their biggest win of the season to banish the temporary dip in form which was threatening their promotion push.
An emphatic second half display saw them hit eight goals in rapid succession to seal victory.
The game started with Bassett exerting early pressure, which paid off when Grant Kirkup finished calmly in the D for his first of the afternoon.
With Bassett pushed so far up the field it was inevitable that gaps would be left at the back. West Wilts exposed this soon after to bring the scores level at 1-1.
After absorbing more Wilts pressure, Bassett broke quickly and won a short corner. Kirkup duly dispatched it to make it 2-1.
Towards the end of the half Ben Tompkins scored his first goal for Bassett as he bundled the ball home at the back post to make it 3-1 at half-time.
The second half began as the first finished, with Bassett very much on top. A series of three short corners resulted in 3 goals. Firstly, a strike from the top of the D was diverted in at the right hand post by Matt Daniell.
The next two from typical strikes from the top of the D by Kirkup into the bottom right-hand corner, to complete his hat trick to make the score 6-1.
The goal of the game came when midfielder Patrick Law found his way into the D and unleashed a stunning reverse stick strike into the top left-hand corner of the net. Rob Appleby then got on the score sheet, tapping in at the back post from a Glyn Rowe right wing cross.
There followed a bizarre goal by defender Jack Showering. After avoiding several tackles and dribbling down the left, he drove into the D only to be tackled by an opposition defender. However his perseverance saw the ball squeeze through the defender’s legs and trickle in at the near post.
To round off a good afternoon, man of the match David Beale’s run down the left saw him square the ball for Kirkup to get his fifth and Bassett’s tenth. The scoring was completed when a goal mouth scramble was finished off by Patrick Law for his second of the game. West Wilts got a late consolation goal from a short corner but it could not dent Bassett’s afternoon.
