CORSHAM paralympic ace Stephanie Millward was crowned a world champion in Brazil last night.
The 27-year-old claimed gold in the S9 200m individual medley at the IPC Swimming World Championships (25m) in Rio de Janeiro.
Millward touched the wall first in 2:33.18, more than a second clear of her Great Britain teammate Claire Cashmore in the race in which swimmers complete all four disciplines of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
Millward, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and won bronze in the S8 100m butterfly on Sunday with a British record time is competing in six more events this week including her strongest the backstroke.
"I'm pleased to have a gold under my belt," said Millward.
"I wasn't feeling well earlier but I knew I just had to get in there and do it.
"My coach said to push the race on my backstroke and my breaststroke which are my best and worst strokes and it worked to plan."
"I was slightly disappointed with the butterfly, but it made me hungry for success.''
